  1. Thanks for the advice guys. Looking into RS now. Since I'm new to this and I don't have any experience painting or putting together kits of any sort would I be ok handling that on my own or would it be best to try and scrape the money together for a ready to go set? Just worried I'd mess up all the painting and such. Looking at it so far the easiest on my wallet would be the TIE Pilot... I suppose we could always use more pilots, someone needs to take care of those X-Wings. I'm also only 5'7 so I'd fit well inside one of those cockpits haha.

Its honestly not that hard. And I'm not sure what you might be looking at, but I spent almost as much on my Tie pilot as I did my stormtrooper. We are here to help you, can walk you through just about every step to building a kit, and make sure you get everything you can out of the process. It's my opinion that building your own kit is a right of passage. There are those that just wish to buy and go, which is cool too, but there's just something special about taking a kit from a pile of plastic, to the fear inducing stormtroopers!

Just a couple of things, this page is dedicated to the stormtrooper and several variations. The Tie pilot has it's own forum, as does every other costume from Star Wars. We are primarily a 501ST LEGION page, but are here to help regardless if your looking to join or not (but we hope you do). If it IS your plan to join the 501st ranks, I would also suggest you jump onto the forum of your local garrison. There you will learn who is in your area, and see what we call "armor parties" locations and such. At these armor parties there are well versed people that will help you hands on with building your kit.

If you have any questions at all, we are here. Again, welcome to THE home of the white armor.

  2. Welcome!

I guess my question is who trimmed it? if its from the vendor then it should be fine. they do what we call a "pre-trim" which means all or most the Extra stuff has been cut away. But if its from a single person, I would use caution. They may have trimmed it to fit them, and some parts may not work for you, which can cause issues, shimming, or all together need for new parts.

  3. Ouch! ;-)

Some screen used troopers looked a lot bit this, to be honest. However, as the CRL is based around an idealised look so steers away from this type of look.

Keep up the good work, Chris :-)
Sorry I have to disagree. None of these pics look like the Anovos paint. But as we said we dont go for screen used, we go for standardized

  4. Hmmm, I would leave it has it is. A little flex is a good thing. And it's all about dealing with the cracks as they come. You dont want to start adding unnecessary weight, although FG is light. As far as the ab parts, your not going to be putting a ton of stress there. Or at least I haven't seen issues. But what I did was put the rivets in as non functional, and glued snap plates over them. This way there is no actual stress on the holes for the rivets. It's not necessary for L3, they just need to line up, not be functional. I did however change the middle section of webbing from webbing to ABS to hold its alignment.

Yet another reason I hate Anovos...Those teeth look horrible...to me anyways. wish they didn't leave so much white and the top and bottom. Welcome though, and glad you finally got your stuff. Your in good hands here, and we will help you reach your goal of being amount the very best at L3.

  6. Great report! On the sniper plate, did you trim any of the width from the top of the plate? This was mine before I adjusted the angle and trimmed the top.

Put foam behind the front to push it out. Shouldn't really be an issue. You may also want to pull your thighs up

  7. Okay, so I went over the vocoder and made the 'bumps' on the top more pronounced by going past the moulding.

And I scratched back the teeth a bit (screwdriver, and gently - I don't have any toothpicks!)

I labelled 'em up to make it easier to feed back if it needs more tweaking...

  8. I just started researching the 501st after I saw the Outer Rim Garrison at Fan Expo Vancouver last year and this year and want to make my own Costume, I had my heart set on an ANH Stormtrooper but one of my friends in the 501st said I don’t have the right body type for it and I should instead go with one of the fabric costumes like the Imperial Crew/Trooper, only thing is that I’m not a fan of those costumes.  I really want to be a Stormtrooper but atm Im 6’ tall and about 325 pounds right now.  I’m kind of hesitant about joining the 501st right now because if I do decide to ignore my friend I’d probably never hear the end of why he doesn’t like me dressed up like a Stormtrooper.
    Welcome!

Well now that's not the 501st way. Your friend really should go back and research what the 501st is. Yes it might not be "easy" being a large trooper such as yourself, but I'm sure its doable. We have troopers from 5 ft tall to way over 6 ft, some in wheel chairs, some amputees, some skinny, and some heavy. If it's your dream to be a trooper work towards that. Dont let your "friend" determine what you do.

That being said I know we have a future trooper that was in your shoes. And he has currently started his WIP (work in progress). He worked hard and lost a lot of weight to the point that he was ready in his mind. Now if you decide that you want to build a TK, I would have to recommend AM armor. His kits are meant for large troopers. May take some work, but we will get you there!

I would say go to the work in progress page, and have a look around. You will be surprised at all the different shapes and sizes of troopers out there. You decide for yourself if this is something you want to do. It's your dream, you decide to live it or not. We are gonna be here for you with whatever you decide to do.
