Thigh super-shimming... opinions?
suttontech replied to suttontech's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
Still brainstorming on how to fix that lip on bottom to make it straight like it should be. The intense size of the new top splint has caused the bottom to make that harsh inverted ‘V’ shape Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Thigh super-shimming... opinions?

Trial fit before the ABS paste and sanding. It’s kind of hard to gauge without all the strapping done to hold everything in place but it seems like we’re on the right track. Have to suck in those cankles on the bottom shins too I notice now haha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Thigh super-shimming... opinions?

That’s a good idea thanks. Being my buddy’s first build, and my second, I will say that having it be a TD is kind of a good way to learn ABS paste.... the weathering will cut down the polishing and hide a lot of imperfections that would show up on a TK. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I suppose it would work on a full-size, but on my grandduaghter’s FN suit, I made a hinge just by lathering up a strip of nylon webbing with E-6000 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Helping my buddy get a used Anovos Sandy that he bought up to spec. It’s been fairly light adjustments except that his thighs are built like a cartoon turkey drumstick lol Knees are average, tops are huge. So far, we took a big piece of ABS to the inside that spanned the entire triangle gap we need, now we are gluing a piece on the outside cut to fit down in the gap. We tried any other way but the gap on top was just too huge. Once we ABS paste the seams, we have to figure out how to fix the bottom, since now the bottom has an upside down V shape... I think its too severe to say he notched it out ... Anyway, just looking for input from the experts. Thanks guys. I tried that, not sure my Tapatalk app is functioning correctly because of the results I got. Thanks for the link Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Any bad side effects to using rubbing alcohol to shine ABS? It works great on scuffs, but if it accelerates yellowing or something else I’m unaware of... figured I’d ask the experts. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have an awesome AP bucket that unfortunately is wayyy to tight for my stupid shaped head. It’s probably fine for 90% of you, but not me. I ordered an Anovos one that I saw online, and it is much roomier. I still like the AP one better though, style and quality-wise... it’s just that my nug wasn’t having it. I didn’t write down the measurements, but I did compare the two. The inside of the Anovos was over an inch wider between where your cheekbones would be. Really helped with putting it on, and with the general claustrophobia I was getting with the AP. Plus there was more room for the fans I got for the bucket. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Ok thank you! Time for Testors I guess. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well, I got it. It’s great... except the teeth paint.... all Anovos don’t look like that do they? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Found this.. seems legit? Any idea how it compares to an AP helmet size-wise? I’d like a little more room than my AP one has currently. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Tiny Trooper 48” Trooper sized down

Awesome!! I like some if your ideas... wish I’d thought of them! I cut off the whole ring on the shin bottoms, but kept them to put back on when she grows. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Here’s some extra pics I had. I cut the torso and put in a wide elastic strip to make extra body room. The last pic is a shin. To hold the front together and still have flex to open the back wide enough for her leg, I used a vinyl belt strip lathered in E600. It works like a hinge in front and still holds it together. She seems to like the mesh so far. She usually insists on authenticity haha so thats weird. If we do switch to a lens I have a small fan to put in there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Not really. I had to splint the lower torso with elastic because she’s a little tank lol Cheap winter gloves with a piece of white foam glued on. The rest was just a huge pain hollowing out the guts Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I got lazy with the progress pics... Yea I strapped most of it, used a few screws where I could. Glued felt inside on the rough patches. Had to trim a bunch because she’s still so short. Suspenders for the lower torso, straps to hold the upper together, including straps to hold the shoulder/bicep bells. Made her a garter to hold the thighs up. Shoes... just cheap brown loafers with one coat of FlexSeal white rubber paint (the kind they paint the screen door with and use it for a boat bottom on tv) Rubies 2-piece helmet. $25 bucks maybe? Trying to make a backup TK helmet that is a little roomier. I had this less-than-perfect TK-UK one laying around. Whats the best glue/filler to make this seam in back disappear? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Setting the Dremel on the lowest speed and using a sanding stone bit seems to be the best way to keep the rough little boogers from forming. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

The parts were originally held together with screws. That made for posts on the inside of the parts. Most of them I had to cut out to make room for body parts. The few I was able to salvage can hold parts together, but I’m going to have to do a bunch of gluing when I put stuff back together. Here’s the thighs, one side gutted, one side intact ( I circled a set of screw posts) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
