I have a question about the thighs which will apply the the shins as well.  Either because of the way I trimmed it or because of my kit, theres not really an overlap to glue the thighs together.  I'm going to need to put a strip inside of the thigh to act as the overlap and glue the thighs that way.  Thats not gonna ruin the accuracy will it?  Shouldnt change the way it is from the outside.  Also because I had to trim them so much I lost all the return edge on the top of my thighs.  Is there a way to rebuild return edge so it looks like the bottom of my thighs?  Is it okay to leave it without return edge?  My thighs also didnt come with recessed spots for the greeblies (those carved in rectangles the greeblie tabs sit on top of), so I'm wondering how to fix that too.

One more thing, is R2Dan the only one that makes FOTK holsters?

My kit came with a lousy resin one that I REEEAALLLLY dont wanna use.  It's not the sturdiest thing and I really dont want to risk it breaking while holding a pricey F-11D.  So I'm on the market for a metal holster with hardware.

I'm going to try and get the shins to the point the thighs are at tonight.  If theres time I'll tackle the spats too.

I have Dan's holster and Justin's rifle/pistol mounting. I believe Justin also does the holster:

I would also add that I feel bad for not posting more detailed progress photos on the first build, but I was under a time crunch...:laugh1:. I'll be adding more content to this thread as I begin my son's TK and hopefully will add more details in the process.

If you haven't already, go for a troop in the neighborhood for 30+ min. Go up some steps, slight hill, down the same. Put the snaps to the test and check for armor bites (might need to remove some return). This would help as you are going to make the second set of armor. Easier to find out now and incorporate into the build. That being said, you will still have some adjustments when we can get back to 3+ hours of a troop.

    Great job by the way!

  3. Keep the questions coming! Look at those other AM builds, Firedog above is doing the same build so you guys are now build buddies. When you hit a snag or question, more than likely it has happened to others and we all want you to succeed.

Keep in mind no matter how well you build it, you WILL make changes after your first troop! But those changes are specific to you, and only you will know after wearing the armor.

Is seems daunting to make it, but the satisfaction of building and seeing the smiles from all the kids is awesome!

  4. Check out AJ's AM build thread and a few that are ongoing. You have some reading to do (but it is a great topic) and it should address any questions you might have on specific AM kits.

Look at EIB and Cent submissions for AM armor, you can see the "finished" product. As part of the submission, there are links to their build threads.

My suggestion is to build to Cent now, its not much more work and easy to do it as part of the original build versus having to make changes to a built kit.

Here is my strapping, I used the rivets to hold the snaps and both sides are using tandy with a nylon strap. I did make my right side function strap with a tab system. Ultimately the belt helps hold the pieces together.

Secured the action figure.  Cost me an arm and a leg, but i should get it in September.

Also, anyone know where I can source a really good blaster and sidearm for this?  I have 3D printed ones for my FOTK, but I would like something more sturdy and durable that I could paint.

The one printed in resin is awesome and has hardly any sanding needed. Feels very sturdy and uses the fifth horseman files (so they are super accurate). I have a build thread where I am adding electronics to it.

So I got around to the sniper knee today and encountered a problem that hopefully y'all could give me advice with.

I tried clamping the center of the sniper knee to the front of the shin, but when I got that to sit perfectly flush, the sides stuck way out. When I tried to conform them, I felt like I would break them if I kept bending.

The second attempt I tried clamping the edges first, but when I did that, the center stuck way out.

(This photo is when I had the center clamped)

What would be the proper course of action to have both the center of the sniper knee as well as the corners, sit flush against the top of the shin?

    Thanks!

I have an AM kit, so I am not 100% sure if my fix would work, but I had to extend out the sniper to help clear my knee cap (see the blocks of plastic between the plate and shin)
