You're going to want to trim the return edge on the top flange. That's going to dig in and bite pretty good. emoji33.png make sure you're measuring the circumference of your thighs before removing too much material. I may rework mine in the rear by increasing the thickness of the cover strip (I've got thicker legs). And, as always... Measure twice, cut once, and use a straight edge.

Remove all the top return, or just in the back?

For the ammo pack, I again basically failed to document the process. I did the trimming, including using a can as a template for the curved lower corners. I drilled the holes for the split rivets, installed them, was proud of myself, then took one look and realized I'd trimmed the ammo pack way too long, and there were huge gaps between the ammo pack and the side of the thigh. Fortunate I was able to salvage it because there was just enough length that I could simply re-trim it to the correct length while still using the same holes in the thigh. Just another reason not to rush through a build.

For calf closures, this was another decision I agonized about a bit. I knew that the elastic plus bra hooks was screen accurate, but I was uneasy about drilling holes into the calf. Velcro was simple, but I'd heard that some folks had issues with it popping open, and I didn't like that it didn't have any 'give'. Ultimately I decided to go with Velcro for simplicity, and due to the fact that it was non destructive, so I could switch to the bra hooks later if I wanted. I ended up buying some low profile industrial white Velcro and I'll.jusy have to see how it holds up. If I do have problems with it popping open, I'll try adding an inner cover strip and adding Velcro to that.

How did you get your measurements for cutting out the ammo pack, with WTF it is just a strip with no markings.

Also, how has the low profile velcro been holding up?

    thanks,

    Lou

  3. I am 100% right but I am totally done helping this group from now on.
Sorry to read that. I have the same kit and struggle for pictures to help build. For me with assembling two different sized calves is just not going to look correct. If the legs were correct, seems you would always be walking in a circle with one small and one long :-)

Oh man, what have we started! :) I hope it didn't bum them out too much!

Only pointing out that this must have been going on for a while, so I would not spend a lot of effort on new plastic being the culprit.

What about putting another plastic plate between the bottom of the snaps and the inside of the armor? Maybe sandwich the plastic first to see if the bulge telegraphs to the plate. If not, then glue to the inside of the armor (thinking the extra plate will be more giving to whatever is going on?

  5. Haven't done strapping on my TK yet, but I did attend an AP last weekend and looked at a 8 year old suit that had the domes on the outside of the armor. Guys had not noticed it before and everyone was surprised. Another builder said he basically made a U-channel to hold the snaps off direct contact with the armor and did not have any issues -   _TT_  The snaps would be between the tops of the T's

Thank you for the feedback Coastertk!  How much return edge should remain on the ankles?  I am thinking none

I attended an armor party last weekend and a few TK's commented to remove all or risk tearing up your boots. Consensus with that group (none had built a WTF) was to have the longer part on the outside

  7. So I can get this to fit, the lines are where the hard lines are molded into the bicep. In the front I made those 20mm (10mm per side), in the back I need more room. But the cover strip would still be in the middle, will this cost me centurion level (back of bicep).

In a perfect world I would not have the hard lines molded in and it would just be a smooth area to the butt joint. If I had to I could try to "iron" out the hard lines and make them smooth. Or I can cut the ridge off and add plastic and smooth it with ABS paste.

Your right at the max for WTF. I'm about the same size as you and I'm using Walt's kit for my TKC. That left bicep will need a hot water bath to shape it rounder. Remove all the return edge will help also. How wide would back strip need to be? Are you wearing your compression gear when fitting?  For me the kit fits like it's made for me. Except chest. It could be bigger.

Don't tell Walt I said that. He gave me a look the day I said it in his shop. Did you get the bigger ab and Kidney pcs.?

When I ordered I let Rocky know my height, is there a way to know if I got the larger version? BTW, I did ask Rocky if they had a larger bicep (I understand they also have smaller versions) and the answer sadly was no.
