1. I'd make sure this is no wider than 3 inches max

    Why's that? The guidelines state:

    "Belt

    For 501st approval:

Belt face is made of plastic (TK ammo belt).

The soft belt proper is made of canvas, or material with a canvas covering. Size must be 2.75” (70 mm) to 3.25”(83 mm) wide and not wider than the plastic portion of the belt. The color is be white to off-white.

The drop boxes dangle from the sides of the front plastic belt (ammo belt) via white straps and are aligned under the plastic tabs of the ammo belt. "

The belt I got is the advertised 3 1/4".

  2. The one on the right looks a lot glossier will have to get some ordered. Did you get it from eBay?

Yes mate, cost £9.50 delivered for the big 237ml bottle of No.2. Just tried it on the chest plate, which had some little doodle scratches from transit, and it has removed them... Good stuff! I might get a lambswool buffer attachment for the drill and have at it :D

Wee bit more work on the handle - shaped a 'U' shape at the top, same contour as the 40mm pipe. Still needs to be way rounder.
I'm currently looking for a bit of close mesh to cut to size, so I can emboss the chequering. My pencil pot has exactly the right shape :D but don't really want to butcher it!

Well, that couldn't have worked out much better!

I butchered the mesh pencil pot into two rough sheets. First, I used a washer to imprint the 'free-lock' circle. Then, sandwiched the handle between the two mesh sheets and treated it to a session in the vice...

  4. Not Bad. If the diameter of the pipe is the AP or TE diameter then you use 8.5 inches. If the diameter of the pipe is larger as in the RS props style,

Then you would use a longer strip at about 9.5 and trim from there. The key measurement, is at the bend where the belt rests, which always needs to be 3 1/4"

Your end bends seem a little long. Looks kinda like jesse's old style!

Yeah, I noticed the end bends when I looked again at the pics :D I have enough of the bar left to try again, which I probably will.

And I think I know why the difference in end length came about... I reckon i'd bend the bar too far round the cylinder before bending it back on itself.

Oh well, live and learn. Imagine how it would have looked without your tutorial :D

    Thanks again.

  5. I currently have a set of SDS battle spec armour. As you may or may not know its is and with a satin finish. Is there anyway to get the finish more glossy by polishing it with something?
Would car polish give it a shinier finish? I don't want to spray paint it.
I already know the arguments about SDS armour so please don't start flaming, the armour is good for my purposes.
Thanks

Hi, I have the same armour. Only tried a small section with Showroom Shine. Kinda worked but not toooo glossy. I've heard Novus polish is good, but i've yet to try it.

maybe requires a little mechanical help (buffer with sheepskin)?

  6. Vern, just wanted to say thanks for your superb tutorial. Even a mechanical dunce like myself can at least make something (half) decent with your guidance.

So I bought some 25mm aluminium strip (£3 odds for 1m) and had a go. I reckon the diameter of the grey pipe I have on my pre-made detonator may be slightly different, as there wasn't as much strip left for the final bend as yours (?).

Anyway, happy with the results. Just ignore the two holes in the pipe, i'll need to fill them.

  7. I can send you some of the correct white elastic if you like, Mark, (no charge). If interested, just PM me.

Hey, thanks Joseph, that's very kind of you! If I was going for Centurion, i'd take up your generous offer :D but not planning on it, for the moment, at least. Thanks anyway, really appreciate it :)

But just thinking about it, these little things might be handy in the workshop for a variety of things :)

  8. Hows it going? Have you got a drill press to cut all the holes or are you going about it with a hand held? I dont have any access to a press so will have to go at it with a hand held and was wondering if you had or seen any tips for this.

Also where did you get the rest of your parts from? Doopy?

Would love to see the fruits of your labour, either the process or final product!

    Cheers

    Alan

Hi mate, I don't have a drill press either, so had to do it by hand. Look on the blaster build section, my ongoing build is there. I have (so far) spent £4 on 3 metres of pipe. Everything else was lying around. But it's gonna be rougher than a badger's bum :D

    .

RE the holes, there's a template for this online. Print it out, stick it onto pipe and drill-away. I used a 5mm wood bit to pilot, then opened out with a decently sharp metal bit. You're welcome to pop by and pick up some pipe... Still got loads left!

  9. Hi folks. I was perusing the confectionary aisle in a supermarket this evening and came across an empty box of Cadbury's Dairy Milk. It DID contain 200g bars. More interestingly, it also contained an ingenius little device that keeps the chocolate bars pushed to the front of the display box. This was made up of a corrugated cardboard thingy and a single (verrry strong) band, which provides the mechanism, i'd assume.

    .
Anyway, I took some of the bands, after clearing it with the lady who was tidying the aisle.
    .
Now, it may be the case that the elastic for holding together shoulder straps should be white? OK, then this is no use, as it is semi translucent, but it's a perfect fit:

  10. I probably should've specified ID, hotel room key, that sort of thing. I understand for trooping those items aren't really needed most of the time, but at a Con walking around the floor it would be nice to carry a few personal items and not have to scurry all the way back to your room.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

Cut the pocket off an old pair of cargo trousers (pants?), attach a strap and wear around neck, under chest armour?
