1. Well, you have a few routes you could go. Have you researched the differnt types of armor yet? Once you do that then you will need to make a decision on if you want TM, ATA, WTF, AM 2.0 or anovos (just to name a few) they all have pros and cons but all have been 501st approved at some point. Remember, the maker of the armor or armor itself does not get 501st approved. YOU are the one who does the work to get it approved. In other words, there are plenty of guys with Anovos kits that are not getting approved.

Take you time, research research research. Do not get in a hurry or you can make some pretty bed mistakes. Keep us posted on your journey and ask LOTS of questions!!!! Someone will answer your question on here!

    Enjoy!

  2. Ok guys so I am seriously thinking about building a shadow trooper and I have a couple of questions.
1. I already have ANH AM 2.0 TK that I build last year and a member of 501st. Do you build a shadow trooper the same way? In other words is it just like building a TK only a differnt color? Could I follow the same building thread I followed for my TK, because I know that thread inside and out.
2. Since my TK kit is AM 2.0 I am thinking about sticking with that. Are there any recommendations you guys have for shadow?

  3. Looks great! Couple of things I have noticed:

The thighs look a little long to me. This can cause mobility issues. I know I did for me! I would suggest trimming a little off the top of the thighs. I used a pencil and drew my line all the way around the top then trimmed and sanded. That will help a lot!

Also another thing that will help would be to cut out some of the back of the thighs. If you look at the screen references you can see that most troopers have a pretty good size "U" shape cut out of the return edge on the back. That gives you more room to bend you legs.

    I hope this helps!

  4. http://i1045.photobucket.com/albums/b451/pledford1/Screenshot_2016-08-31-17-14-26_zpsw2skb7dv.jpg
So at this point I'm not sure trimming the top of the thighs is a good idea It looks like to me I have a good enough Gap I'm wondering if I should trim the bottom of the Shins in the lower things??? Any thoughts??

  5. To be honest I used tin snips, marked my lines, and cut it, then sanded. It worked very well for me. There were some thing I scored/snapped but most of it I used the tin snips.

Also, Im not sure if you are doing this or not but I highly suggest adding cover strips to the inside of everything. Some say its not necessary but I have found that it makes the armor very very strong! Plus the inside strips do not have to be exactly 20mm. they can be a little wider. I actually used scrap the left over pieces for inside strips. it just gives it more support.

  6. wow that is great!!!! YES anything helps. I thought about getting enough donations to purchase a TK helmet and assembling it but we are running out of time as the Race /auction is Sept 17.

I am doing the Weird Al concert Sept 10 and thought that if I had a bucket donated, I could ask Al to sign the inside.

Another idea was to auction off a child birthday party with a few 501st member appearances. Not sure if that would be a logistical nightmare or not but could be fun.

  7. Ok Im not sure if this is the appropriate place to post this, and if it is not then I am sorry.

I am a 3rd grade teacher at East side elementary school in elizabethton TN. I am also a member of the Carolina Garrison (tk22710) a few years ago our principal (and friend of mine) was diagnosed with ALS and only given a few years to live. He was a runner so our school decided to host a 3k race to raise money for his medical expenses. In addition to the race, we are also hosting a silent auction that day (Sept 17). Teachers were asked to bring items to add to the auction. I thought since our school LOVES SW that including a TK helmet or any helmet for that matter would be a great thing to add to the items auctioned off. It can be a kit, or a "B grade" sort of bucket. I can assemble it and put it up for auction. I am doing the weird Al concert the week before the auction so I was hoping that if I had a bucket donated I could maybe get Al to sign it before putting it up for auction. I know thats sort of a big wish but one can hope right? Anyway, I am looking for anything that can be donated. If you would like to help you can email me at phil.ledford@gmail.com. thanks guys

  8. I'm having lots of discomfort lately when I wear my armor lately. It feels like the shoulder strap part of the armore is digging in to the top of my shoulders. In fact it's leaving marks on them that I noticed the next day after a troop. This was not the case when I first built my armor in the spring. Any thoughts? I will post pics later tonight.

  9. the helmet build is the hardest part. Yes the front and back do not match up perfectly. Its gonna take some work to get it to all screw together. It did for me and i struggled for a while with it. I took comfort in following navajo bros AM 2.0 build thread. In that head he mentioned how putting the front and back together was a pain in the butt. Just know that once that is done, the rest of it is much easier. I would follow his thread for sure. It is very well documented and easy to follow.

I will look it up and send you a link.

  10. So I filed down the teeth a bit more. My goal is to achieve a more square look instead of rounded. Here is a picture of what the front looks like now.

The hardest part so far has been the outer teeth since the hole is so small.

I then decided to go ahead and glue the top and back of the helmet together. I used E6000, magnets, and clamps. The glue provided in the kit isn't the best from what I read so that's why I decided to just stick with E6000 from the start.

I wrapped the magnets in masking tape because they were ceremic magnets and can leave a black half circle.

By doing this, I was able to use the magnets I already had instead of having to order magnets from Amazon and waiting a bit for delivery. They still get a really good pull on them through the tape.

I also put masking tape around the clamps so that it would be easier on the plastic. Now I'm just playing the waiting game for glue to dry. Such a painful process but worth it in the end.

Im probably going to look at the rest of the armor and come up with a plan of attack for the rest.

for me, when I had the teeth cut out to that point, I didn't have a file but what I did was fold a small piece of sand paper and "flossed" it back and forth in there till I had it the way I wanted. It worked VERY well and I didn't have to buy a file.

  11. Looking good man. and welcome to AM 2.0! As far as the back of the bucket goes, yeah I had the same problem and I think most people do. If I remember correctly, I went back and put a small drop of Zap a gap under that part the used my magnets to hold it together till it dried. It helped quite a bit, however there is still a small "bubble" on the back but its not noticeable.

The only thing about zap a gap is that stuff dries so fast and so permanent that you really gotta be careful. I used e6000 on almost everything so you could use it on the back of the helmet too. just use some strong rare earth magnets to hold it till it dries.

Looking good so far! I totally remember how nervous I was when doing that. The good thing is that the more you do, the more confidence you will gain. If you have any questions at all please feel free to PM me. I can send pics and help you out.

    Good luck!
