  1. Troop #: 14

    Date: March 15, 2019

    Location: Atlanta Symphony Hall

Event: Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back Movie

    Event Charity: N/A

Last year while in the middle of my TK build I attended this event with my wife (except it was A New Hope playing), this year we got to attend as TK and Handler. Prior to the show we were asked to control, I mean, interact with the crowds and take pictures. For those not familiar with these events, the score is removed from the movie and while the movie plays the orchestra performs the score. It's a very awesome experience!

  2. Troop #: 13

    Date: February 21, 2019

Location: Renaissance Concourse Atlanta Airport Hotel

    Event: Bert's Big Adventure Sendoff

    Event Charity: Bert's Big Adventure

Bert's Big Adventure is a huge charity in the Atlanta area, their big event each year is to send children (and their families) who have chronic and terminal illnesses to Walt Disney World for five days, all expenses paid. They also have numerous other events throughout the year. This troop was the sendoff at Hartsfield Airport, it was an early day as we started around 5:30 am, but it was also a very rewarding experience.

  3. Troop #: 12

    Date: January 26, 2019

    Location: Infinite Energy Arena

Event: Atlanta Gladiators Star Wars Night

Event Charity: Boys & Girls Club

This was a very fun event, the Gladiators staff told us it was the largest turnout on the books for one of their games so far. The event was somewhere around 5 hours long but in all the activity of doing a Boys & Girls club pregame Meet & Greet, patrolling the lobby, and taking part in Blast-A-Trooper, the time absolutely flew by.

  4. Ok, time for a much needed update as I've let this thread lapse. This year has been busy so far! I had the honor of being asked to join the Event Coordinator team for the Georgia Garrison, I'm building my wife's Legacy TK, finishing up my TIE Pilot/Reserve, and have been steadily researching and obtaining the items I need to build an ESB Fett. The addiction is real folks. On to the troop log!

Event: TV Spot for Atlanta Gladiators Star Wars Night

    Event Charity: N/A

We were asked to come participate in a promotional spot for the Atlanta Gladiators Star Wars Night game. Always fun to get to see behind the scenes of live TV production!

A long time ago, in space, the final frontier:

During filming Rey gave me a good helmet check:

  5. Still just trimming parts as time allows. I did go ahead and coat the interior of the helmet with Plastidip so it will have time to cure and stop smelling. Like my own TK bucket I gave the finish a rough texture, this helps with any adhesion needs.

I also painted the frown & vocoder and installed the hovi tips:

  6. Continuing on, I've been trimming parts where possible, except where needed for sizing purposes. Got the torso all cleaned up:

    33589612598_00128979a4_z.jpg

Decided to attempt assembling the front of one shin. On my first round I was fitting the pieces together using tape, I taped the inner cover strip to one side:

    47465826261_d144453416_z.jpg

And then I taped on the other side and checked for gaps, sanding/dremeling where necessary to get an even, straight line:

    46550465935_be1df4866c_z.jpg

However, what I recommend for test fitting these parts instead of just tape is using the clamps and magnets that you'll be using during the gluing process, the fit between the two methods is quite different. Below is the final joint on this shin, you can see at the very top that the gap opens up just a bit. It was a perfect fit with tape, thus my suggestion, but fortunately it will be hidden by the knee.

  7. Right ear is now done. Following the drill guides in the helmet would have resulted in a large gap as it placed the ear too high on the helmet to meet the tube properly. So I held the ear in place to reduce the gap and marked my own drill holes. It did drop the top of the ear away from the brow trim but the ears were trimmed according to their trim outlines, so it might be wise to leave a little extra material/flare on the ears. I accepted the asymmetry with my own TK so I'm ok seeing it here too.

I also went ahead and fit the neck trim and next I'll be fitting the lenses. Then it all comes apart to paint the inside & outside of the helmet.

  8. So after attending and handling a handful of troops with me, my wife quickly got the trooper bug. We went through some options and ultimately landed on the Legacy TK but she thought we'd have to wait for a bit to order her kit. I told her we could at least order her boots first, little did she know I had ordered the kit pretty much as soon as she firmly decided on a Legacy.

The boots arrived quickly from Imperial Boots:

    46685885184_600846456a_z.jpg

    And then the BBB surprise:

    47409191311_717527f2df_z.jpg

We quickly dived into pretrimming the kit and I started on some finishing work on the helmet, for some reason I really enjoy starting builds with the helmet.

    Frown trimmed:

    33533322378_09dd8c3584_z.jpg

    And then eyes:

    46685884974_875b9e4aa3_z.jpg

Then I started with fitting the left ear. Following the guides/dimples in the helmet for the screw placement resulted in the lower screw landing in mostly dead space, like so:

    33533325298_91b45ecbd2_z.jpg

So I clamped the ear down and drilled a new hole that caught both sections of the helmet. And then trimmed off the excess ear piece:

    46493925375_266f8b9386_z.jpg

    One ear down:

The goal is to have this kit done for MegaCon at the end of May, so we'll see!

  9. I've got two 40mm fans as well, running off a 4AA battery pack (which makes the fans run a bit faster/ louder than they would on a USB pack), and I can hear most everything around me just fine. I also have Tony's hearing assist system but I've not been using it as the vibration of the fans resonate through the helmet and the hearing assist mics picks that up, so it's just a constant, loud buzz, which renders the hearing assist almost useless. I need to isolate the fans some to reduce that noise, then it should be just fine.

Did the hovi mics come from AP like that?

If I recall correctly from his build thread they're ukswrath hovi speakers (they also look just like mine, so I think that they are). I found it odd because as far as I know they've never been called out as an issue for L3 approval in the past.

Prior to taking them apart I would suggest asking for clarification on that aspect as they might be damaged by opening them up.

    Hi Eric,

    You’re correct about the check list and we will hopefully have that updated soon, however, the sniper knee alignment and thigh ammo pack fixings are requirements at L2 so we need to clearly see those areas for the review. Below are excerpts from the CRL;

    Level two certification (if applicable):
•Sniper knee plate must be aligned with the ridges on the shin

    Level two certification (if applicable):
•Thigh ammo belt is attached to thigh with a solid head rivet, painted white, in the upper corner and fastened to the lower thigh ridge.
•The rivets used shall be single cap, double cap or split rivets. No pop rivets allowed.

Hope that helps a little. :-)

Understood, thank you for laying that out Dan. Just trying to make sure I'm providing everyone with a thorough application packet of pictures! :)

    Hi Lou,

    Looking good, Trooper.

Could we kindly request images of your sniper knee (left, front, right) and your thigh ammo pack (fixings inside and out).

    Thanks in advance.

    Dan

Hey Dan, just for clarification purposes as I'm taking pictures to help my fellow local troopers, are those not details required only on the Centurion checklist? They don't appear on the EIB checklist I printed from this forum.
