  1. Just like the other armors out there they have tells. I think the Anovos frown will be a tell. This is my first armor and love it. Very pleased. Will probably get rid of hard had liner for some pads. Not much else I think I will change.

This is no tell. I wouldn't make a tell this obvious. This is a fault. It's just wrong. No other explanation Not in my mind anyway.
  2. Ordered some time last year. Can't remember when, had no shipping confirmation and couldn't care less when it arrives because it will arrive at some stage. Does anyone know how to put these things together or know what tools and supplies i might need? What else do I need to complete the costume? Anovos is crap...... No they're not they're amazing..... Hold on a minute what am I saying? Is this the right forum? Will I ever get what I ordered. What's a BBB? What's ABS? A bucket? That's what you put water in isn't it?

  3. It happens to the best of us....... Just keep in mind that if people want quality they will find you......Recasting will happen but I can guarantee that it will second rate compared to the original........funnily enough it has not effected me at all even though my mic tips and helmets and armour have been recast.....

Just carry on what you are doing and you'll be fine..... You wouldn't believe the stories I have been told by recasters of my products..... it's laughable! :laugh1:

  4. Remember, Frank is used to working on these sorts of things as props, where volumes are high and timing is tight. While the score and snap method is just as quick - if not quicker - than using power tools, it is much more physically demanding. Score and snap for eight hours, or use power tools for eight hours? I know what I would choose.

I have worked in the prop industry and I would use the score and snap method and do....... Power tools are so unnecessary and slow for this application. I can do 8 hours work this way... It's what you get used to.... I can trim 2 suits and helmets in a hour or two ready for assembly. Just sayin..........

  5. C'mon guys... Let's give the chance that we may like the armor! I agree that change in the return and refund policy needs clarifications, but it's seems like a lot of people it's eager not to like the kit and thinking about returning it or cancelling the order even before it has reached their doors! Of course three or four hundreds is money, but after almost ten months of wait I am anxious to get the suit... And I am not thinking all the time that it will suck.<br>

    Stay optimistic!

    Well said.

  6. @Star1687, Yep, same problem. the join is nice through the middle section of the shin, but at the top/bottom sweeps back. but having looked at some source pics (including those in star wars costumes: the original trilogy) RotJ Stormies had similar issues.

@Disco - did you ever get it confirmed, outer over inner, or inner over outer for shins/thighs/forearms/biceps???

and how much of a return do i need on those same pieces. obviously none on front of forearms for centurion, but what about the rest. CRL doesn't say, and nobody has clear pics. any advice? i have left about 5mm on my returns, but happy to make it less so it wont dig in...

Also, I've heard of a few TK's spraying the interior of their buckets black/rubber. any thoughts???

    This is true......

It's officially noted that the outer should overlap the inner so you don't see the join when looking side on but I have seen and posted pics of any which way..... So It should be officially noted that any way is screen accurate. I have found that one of the thighs fits together much better the "wrong" way and looks like it was originally sculpted that way. No returns on the arms and not really much elsewhere. a few mm is fine......

Not a cannon thing but a personal preference..... I have done it on one or two.....

  7. They are still within the Winter date given at pre-order and are beginning shipping next week. I really don't see how people can be upset with that. Their older products? Certainly, they have been delayed multiple times, but the TK is right on schedule. I'm guessing people aren't used to hobbies like this or similar products, as other SW Licensees like Sideshow and eFX take even longer to produce anything.

    This exactly. ^^

Don't know about anyone else but I'm getting very bored with receiving notices to this thread of people constantly banging on and speculating, assuming, guessing, bitching about delivery of this armour.

It will be here as soon as Anovos ready to ship. Be patient.

Unless you are Anovos or have direct communication with Anovos stating fact it's all pointless conjecture.

Spend your time researching assembly and finding all the other parts you'll need to complete it when it does arrive. I bet most people receiving these are newbies and will be starting threads as soon as it arrives asking how to put these together! :laugh1:.

  8. Which Is exactly what I said, did you read my post correctly? I said people are to use to RPTJ derived armor (ATA CAP MTK AP) and you corrected me saying the exact same thing I said. They are ROTJ armor derived. People are too use to that look and forget what screen accurate looks like. I'm not sure about the AP molds maybe I'm wrong on that but I know I was correct about ROTJ derived armor. So no point in correcting me.

Never mind. If you read my post again you might understand it. I Do what I'm talking about.

You are misunderstanding my point. What I was trying to say is that you had given examples of makers that have totally reworked their moulds to look ANH. Some of which recast other armour and agian reworked those moulds so...... They cannot be used as an example of soft ROTJ derived armour. Once something is recast, retooled, sharpened up and reverse engineered to be something else it is no longer what it came from. AP armour derives from a Esb mkii if I'm not mistaken and all the others you mentioned are recasts of retooled reverse engineered armour.

  9. I think its funny people think the armor is too sharp. I think people are too use to the rotj derived armor (ATA CAP MTK AP ) and forgot what screen used armor and helmets look like. This armor will blow all of those listed outta the water in terms of accuracy. Check out the original HDPE stunt helmets, they are super SHARP. Even the RS helmets replicated in the same type of plastic are extremely sharp. And now anovos is too sharp? I gues we will see but don't forget AP uses aluminum molds aswell. If fanmade kits like AM and RT get approved, this one will have no problem when built properly.

I think you are forgetting that CAP, MTK etc are all recasts of ROTJ derived armour Not second generation casts of actual screen used armour.

I have not forgotten what screen used armour looked like. There's sharp and there's overly sharp. Two different things. I'm not saying the originals didn't want to be this sharp and I'm sure if they had used cnc'd aluminium moulds and had modern power vacuum formers the originals would have looked like this. But they didn't and that's my point. Are you sure AP moulds are machines aluminium and not cold cast aluminium filled epoxy? I use aluminium filled epoxy as I just would not be able to afford machined tools. They are incredibly expensive and not usually viable unless doing commercial factory volume Vac forming.

  10. Not for the old, but for the new stuff.

Really interesting it will be when the new stuff looks as the old one with small differencies - will the custom officers know enough about SW to recognize the difference, or will they just seize everything that looks similar, and you have to prove your stuff is "old stuff"?

    Again all speculation.
  11. NOT for the EU, only in the UK. It´s due to the strange "industrial design" loophole in UK laws.

And if Disney starts to enforce their rights, the customs will help them and not let unlicensed stuff into countries.

Then those stuff will only be easily available in the UK, at all other countries the buyers would have to fear to loose their money - some orders may go through, others will be seized. Will the makers take the risk, or is it on the buyers account when the stuff is catched and destroyed?

I think we are stepping a little into the unknown here. All this is negative conjecture.

  12. And don´t let´s forget one thing:

The situation is now that there is a licensed armor on the market. If someone likes it look or not is a personal decision - but if the buyers of that armor are feeling bad treated by the 501st "group", or if sale numbers are not met due to forcing 501st wannabes to buy other stuff to get approval - those complaints could be brought often enough to Disney so that they decide the 501st and the accompanied armor maker are no longer wanted. And when the mouse decides to hunt them down with all the power they have, for sure it would come to a situation that noone here really wants.

Armor makers that only could work in secret, with very low numbers selling, hard to get sa armor - that would be a situation that noone wants and what noone really helps.

So i assume it might be better to wait what REALLY is delivered by Anovos, before stirring the stew to much and maybe cause unneccessary things.

There is no copyright on the OT props. Sds proved that. Not in the EU anyway. LFL did not put any artistic copyright on them so all Disney can do now is copyright the new stuff. You cannot enforce a copyright if there isn't one.

I don't think the 501st or "underground " vendors are slagging Anovos off as such but you cannot blame us for criticising it. It is from what we can see on the pics posted far too sharp. We all speak out when something is too soft. It's the same but different. Hahahaha

  13. Hey Mark, I'm Sorry I offended you.

My intention was not to school one of the most educated and informed members on this forum as you clearly are, by your pedigree.

I'm guessing there are a lot of first time troopers eagerly watching these posts looking for what ever new developments they can find. And there are a lot of old school masters like yourself as well. This was a general statement aimed at everyone. Hopefully we can all learn a thing or two.

I guess I welcome Anovos because they are allowing more fans to realize the dream of being a trooper for the first time, me included. I was 14 when the first movie came out and I still get excited when I see a trooper today. Personally I love the look of the sharp lines and I have spent hours looking at all the different iterations of the helmets from all the movies.

I imagine because of the immense numbers of armor they are pulling from these molds that the aluminum was a practical solution. I would be curious to see if the first pulls are as sharp as the 10,000th pull.

The landscape of making props and costumes is changing all over the world in every aspect. Perfectly symmetrical props, helmets and armor due to CAD, 3D, CNC, Etc... is the wave for now unless there comes a time when people prefer a more imperfect feel. You don't have to embrace it but it's here like it or not.

Thanks for your contribution to the craft and this site!

    No offence taken. :)
