My point is, there are more that a few ways to skin a ewok.

Every plastic has its corresponding adhesive. I'm not about to argue over glue. I've got more in it than your 10 years, btw;)

    ???

This wasn’t a dig at you or a competition about how long you’ve been assembling armour.

I was just correcting some wrong information on a link you provided backed up with some experience.

I’ll just keep quiet in future as you obviously know more than me as you’ve been doing this for so long.

  2. Like asking what kind of fruit to use for a fruit pie; It depends on what you have to work with. Here is a fun and accurate glue guide that I found -

    http://www.scalemodelguide.com/construction/materials/learn-glue/

Not as accurate as it should be and take it as a rough guide.

For instance if you are using a liquid solvent as I do then saying “One disadvantage with this glue is that there is only a very limited time to assemble the parts after applying it. There must also be a good contact between the surfaces to be joined as this is definately not a gap-filler. “

Is wrong. The parts are supposed to be clamped together before applying the liquid. It work through a capillary action then welds the parts together. I’ve found this the cleanest fastest and strongest way to glue abs. I’ve been making and assembling abs parts for over a decade.

  3. Ok just a short update. I dropped $200.00 on Automotive paint, primer, and clear coat. This means that I will not be painting till all the armor and helmet are ready for paint so that I can paint everything at one time. I was torn with going this route or just rattle can but after all the time I plan to put into this kit and the amount of money I have already spent, this will give me the best finished product possible. It remains to be discovered just how hard it will be to do touch ups after trooping. Anyway, progress is underway.

    Thanks for the interest.

I hope you’ve got extraction and a good face mask. 2K is killer otherwise. Good choice for finish.

  4. Hi guys

It’s been a while since I posted but I have been busy on lots of Helmet projects.

I just thought I’d show off the CFO TK helmet line up.

First up is the new ANH SET FOR STUN helmet I’ve been working on. This is a prototype test helmet. I’ve managed to capture a lot of the details from the original 3D scan in the vac forms. So you can see the cracks, drips, chips in the paint and even where the tube stripes were painted.

Next up is our new ESB mkii helmet cast from the one JoeR used to own.

Then we have the CFO JoeR ROTJ helmet.

    And finally the Oakley helmet.

    And the full rotj armour.

  5. Wow. What a load of rubbish. The fact they changed their description is enough as it was misrepresented by the original description. they clearly agree or they wouldn't have changed it. Also $200 to ship armour within the US is outrageous. I can ship armour to the US via express fully tracked in 3 days for less than that and I'm shipping from the uk.
What a loser. I hope it works out with Amazon. I had someone dick me around on Amazon so long their "return period" had expired so refused a refund l and said good luck. I contacted Amazon and received a refund right away. Lol.

  6. If you come to Celebration, beers on me Mark. Election time is always hard to get stuff in as people are either winding things down or winding things up. I really appreciate your patience & politeness through the whole process.

FYI, this change will also be announced in the next newsletter.

Paul, I wish I could be at Celebration but unfortunately you may have to buy me a beer another time.

I'm just glad I got through in the end. Thanks for your support.

  7. Just to close the loop, the CRL has been updated to allow rivets for EI/Centurion, so those that want to have them on their ROTJ can be cleared all the way up to Centurion.

Mark - thanks for your patience on this, and I appreciate the civility and evidence based way you presented your case.

    Cheers,

    Paul

    Thank you Paul!

It has been a long slog. but I am pleased with the outcome and decision to include them within the CRL.

I can't express how happy I am. I'm sure my customers will be pleased to hear this too.

    Thanks.

    Mark.

  8. I don't think they are visible on screen but that's how they were constructed. I've shown proof of before shooting and after of them being there. As I said I find it beyond belief that they were there before and after but not during. They are 4mm of white rivet on white plastic hidden under the helmet for the majority. The 6 foot rule applied back then as there was no HD or Bluray. If you couldn't see it from 6 foot it didn't matter. No matter how the film is remastered it will still only be as high res as the film it was originally filmed on.
I'm not sure why this is so hard to believe.
I've done all I can to prove this is the correct construction and quite frankly if I can't get it through then I'm not sure what else I can do.
I will continue constructing my armour as it should be and give my customers the choice of screen accurate or 501st acceptable.

  9. Why are production photos accepted for the CRL of ANH armour but not for ROTJ? Sorry to hijack but CFO put these photos out into the public domain and they are being used to clarify the ANH CRL. Yet the production pics I'm showing are dismissed because they are not screen shots.

    I'm referring to this post.

  10. Mark - there is a Venn between prop replicators and the 501st. While there is a lot of overlap, pure prop replication is not what the club strives for. We emulate the canonical costumes seen on screen, whereas prop replicators try to replicate what the prop actually was, even if it doesn't quite look that way on screen.

Star Trek original props look like crap for instance, and people doing Star Trek costumes today make much nicer props than what the TV show had. SW is no different.

I understand that the 501st isn't about prop replication but I don't understand why we get penalised for replicating them. Surely that should be the highest level. As it stands if an original Stormtrooper walked of the Set of Endor he would be refused entry into the 501st because his costume is too screen accurate. This I find ridiculous. Because the 501st choose idealised over screen accurate. If the 501st refuse to see it on screen or simply can't see it on screen why should it matter in real life. The public really are not going to see it either but it's there and always was.
