  1. Hey guys: Like many of you, I ordered boots from TK Boots. Being a size US 9-1/2, I figured a size US 10 would do fine for me. No such luck. Turns out the boots from TK Boots seem to run almost a full size small, and I had the most difficult time getting into them. I'm wishing I had ordered size 11, and then I could have added insoles to make up the difference. But not to worry. I found this video posted on Lifehacker this week and decided I'd give it a try: (The guy even uses Chelsea boots in his demo.) This process "breaks in" your boots a lot faster than simply wearing them for a few weeks. You use the heat from a blow dryer to allow the leather to soften up and be stretched by wearing an extra pair of socks. Rather than trust a hair dryer, I broke out my heat gun. What a transformation. I easily got an extra half-size out of my boots, and now they are quite comfortable. Beware, this technique is for genuine leather only! So if yours are small, give this method a try. It made a huge difference for me. Enjoy! Bill
  2. I would have to say customer support at ANOVOS must be on hold or something at the moment. No acknowledgement for my two support tickets, given my order dated 4/28 that hasn't shipped yet. Just getting crickets. I'll give them 2-3 more business days, then I dig up the headquarters phone number via Google and talk to someone higher up...
  3. Thanks for the info Tom. I did sign up for the FedEx Delivery Manager a week ago, and sure enough, it showed me one of my Amazon orders on its way. Nothing from ANOVOS, but yes, I've been watching it like a hawk.
  4. One would think that could affect it. I made no changes at all. Has my invoice been kicked under a desk?
  5. Ordered April 28th, got nothing. Order shows as unfulfilled. Put in two support tickets with ANOVOS, nothing, not a peep.
  6. The reticle image is 1" x 1", and the counter is 0.2" x 1.25". If you happen to have a copy of Photoshop, opening and printing from there will ensure they assume the correct size, as I set proper DPIs for them to print at 1:1 scale. Hope that helps! Bill
  7. Nice to know I'm not the only one. There are folks in my own city receiving theirs before me, even though I ordered days earlier...
  8. Chris, what are you using to do all this edge cleanup and shaping? A dremel? Sander?
  9. Actually it does, since the server move a month or so back. In fact, it works really, really well. I've found some amazing things using it recently. BTW, never thanked Mathias. THANK YOU! The search function does now indeed rock.
  10. Honestly there's probably nothing realistic that can be done about the teeth, other than some serious sculpting and finishing, or hoping a vetted seller like RS might offer a replacement faceplate to go with the helmet. The average public won't notice it at all when it comes to trooping, so I'm not worried at all.
  11. Wow, what an absolutely brilliant idea. I hadn't even thought of that. If my reading of the CRL is correct, I only see the following differences: - a helmet built to different specs, as mentioned above. - different hand plates. - holster attached with loops instead of fasteners. Is that it? Is it that simple? And one more side question...any idea which of the vetted sellers with helmet kits are closest to the shade of "white" in the ANOVOS kit? Or does it even matter? Thanks experts! Bill
  12. In another thread it was suggested that they are still decals with a rectangular border, but kind of like the old-style ones for model kits that you would soak in water before laying them on. I haven't received my kit yet, but that would make sense. Which means they'd probably need to be carefully sanded off if you want to remove them.
  13. 1. Yes, that will do, but be sure to pick black. It comes in different colors. 2. 120 is a tad coarse in my opinion, but not a huge deal. If that's what you have, use it. I would go with 180-200 myself, but again, not a big deal. 3. Ear gaps are normal. In fact, they are movie accurate. Many folks have chosen to remove the ears, sand them to fit better, test fit, and repeat, all trial and error. You can do that if you like, but you can be approved all the way to Centurion with ear gaps thanks to the lineage. Your call. The accuracy vs. idealism debate is a common thing on these forums. Bill
  14. Really good point. Might be worth picking up some Novus for mine. I want super shiny, Can't wait to watch how it goes for you! Still waiting for my kit.
  15. Thanks Todd, I'll contact you via email. Also, thanks Clint for the tip. Unfortunately, I'm allergic to FB, so that creates its own problems as well, as I'm sure I'm not the only one. I will see what I can do about that.
  16. Thanks Todd, I really appreciate it. Yeah, looking at my card now, it was Todd-8559. It is a bit of a legitimate paradoxical challenge, to be sure. How do you protect the build party details (like preventing the whole world from showing up at your doorstep) so that only serious folks come? But how can a first-time newbie go to a build party if they can't get the info? Perhaps some sort of mailing list is in order? This why a few of us (especially North County) will congregate in a thread like this one. (Sorry folks, this probably belongs over at ISG forums, but thanks for indulging.) Bill
  17. Todd, thanks. Met you once at Barnes & Noble in Oceanside. All signed up at the ISG months ago, but when it comes to build parties and such, the calendar access for many events is limited to 501st members only, which is counter-intuitive, because many of us are hoping that build parties will help us get INTO the 501st. I suspect this is for privacy reasons. What is the proper etiquette for getting build party details if we're not members? Many times a build party has come and gone because I didn't catch the sidebar in the right random forum thread in time. Should we PM you guys, or are there more details posted elsewhere for us guys who aren't yet granted full access? Thanks! Bill
  18. The gap between the lens and eyes is also normal. You actually want this gap, as it allows air in, helping reduce fogging of the lenses. EDIT: Already been said. As a frequent attender of trooping events (yet never having participated in one thus far), I can safely say that even though I have much research under my belt and have a semi-trained eye now, it's still so easy to get caught up in the moment that even I don't notice these kinds of imperfections at the time. Other folks won't either.
  19. The ear gap is movie-accurate, believe it or not. Some folks like the charm and the accuracy, others trim the ears to seat better against the helmet. It'll be up to you.
  20. Perhaps some of the gray overspray can be scraped off with an x-acto knife or sanded off carefully after masking?
  21. A couple FISD members have already weighed in on these instructions other threads, and thus far, the consensus seems to be that these instructions are fine for basic approval only. There are some things that can/should be done differently, but nothing major. More review is pending. http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/35088-anovos-tk-kit-instruction/ http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/30831-anovos-tk-armor-preorder/page-121? The biggest no-no so far is that unless you're an experienced builder, don't go with the CA gklue as suggested in the instructions. Bill
  22. Got it, thanks. Very helpful, now to go on a quest to match the white paint. I can do this. Sorry to hijack your thread, Gary. As you were.
  23. And what should that frown fix be? According to some of the reference pics above, I would think you'd want a tiny gray triangle added at the corner of each side, matched to the gray of the teeth. According to a couple other reference pics above, instead maybe scraping off some of the existing gray (or painting over with white) on the last tooth to narrow it to a point? EDIT: Now that I look more closely, I might add a fake tooth hole by painting a tiny black square after the last tooth hole, followed by some gray It seems like the extra triangle might be the way to go, like this: The color, according to the ANOVOS instructions, seems to be "Dark Admiral Grey", whatever that is. Does this approach seem the best way to go?
  24. Sean, PM me when you get your kit, let's talk. I live in Oceanside as well, so maybe we can help each other? I've been researching for 9 months, and just about to receive my first kit as well (also from ANOVOS). The trick here is to spend whatever time you have reading the build threads, because there are different ways to do it. http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/80-anh-build-threads/ The pinned threads are the ones to start with, but just read and read and read. You'll get ideas. Bill
  25. Exactly. Think of it as one of those big furry characters at Disneyland or a sports mascot. People assume it's always cool to run up and hug them, so why not you?
