  1. I bet we could get the 25 members. And the logo/website design would be easy but Idk how to maintain a website over time. Is there a committee in the 501st that approves new garrisons or is it a single officer? I couldnt seem to find that info...
  2. btw Smiling Fox your signature is an awesome quote
  3. Yes indeed, and of course this wouldnt be exclusive to mil personnel, just anyone who would be interested. Does anyone know the rules on starting a new garrison?
  4. Id be right there too, as the pointman!
  5. Wow thanks for that info Mike, I didnt even know that was an option because I also get frustrated sometimes on here haha
  6. So interestingly enough there seems to be a number of us trying to get into the 501st who are actually members of a real world military. This being said many of us move, and I was wondering what would be the consensus on starting an expeditionary garrison that these troopers coul call home, so they would have a permanent chain of command and home website, but could accomplish their minimum trooping with whichever unit they happened to be closest too?
  7. So I just realized Obi Wan made the first joke about our aim, before anyone else did. Pay attention in ANH when they come upon the sandcrawler with blaster marks and the dead jawas. He claims that Sand People didnt do it because "Only Imperial Stormtroopers are so precise" ...just looking at the Crawler you can see that the shot pattern looks like a 3 year old haphazardly unloaded an e11 on the side hahahaha, precise my butt
  8. So I was having a recasting discussion and it occured to me, is it considered recast if you have a 3d model from a game, say the e11 or a thermal det, and refined it a little, then with the help of a 3d printer and a vacu form table make a product? Its my understanding(and I may be mistaken) that some armor and items are recast from movie/tour orignals and are accepted. Wouldnt this be the same? It is not my intention to do any of this Im just looking for where the FISD falls on this
  9. Indeed. Well I guess if its the Imperial standard haha, I would hate for a Grand Moff to call me out on an inspection
  10. I did realize that they dont really serve a purpose, its just that having them float didnt look right, and ideally a "real" trooper would have them affixed so yeah. Thanks for the info guys
  11. And I have no idea whats with the last two posts, my computer is acting...weird
  12. I know it says this somewhere but I cant for life of me find it, and I want to make sure the stencils fit so I'm wondering...since I accidently made an ebay purchase before joining the site and have a CTM props helm...will these stencils work? I know the CTM guys recast from TE2 for the armor but that the bucket has a different origin. Does anyone know what the CTM helmet really is? Ive ruled out FX, vintage Don Post's, Rubies, eFX and RSPropmasters...
  13. Yes I also started with forearms, then biceps, then shins, then shoulder bells and hand guards. I would leave something as detailed as the helm for last IMO. And when you leave something to dry overnight, like the e6000 or paint, try to keep doing other stuff, dont get tunnel vision and it will keep the process moving, and fun.
  14. And not to mention anywhere online, while building a Gundam model I couldnt find a specific color in the store so Amazon was a life saver and pretty fast shipping
  15. Hobby Lobby has TESTORS paint, and pretty much anywhere that sells small model kits.
  16. Wow thanks all. I did not realize there were stencils as well as decals. I think I'll probably go that route. The penciling solution then following up with paint doesnt seem to be for me because my armor is already glossy ABS and very hard to write on. And what was the reason for not using alchohol to prep? Does it
  17. So on the 501st website it is stated that these bridges or shoulder straps are secured in the front but "may" freefloat in the rear? What does this mean? Does that make it optional to attach them in the back as in the front or what?
  18. and I have *realized I can't type fast and spell haha
  19. So while trying to apply paint to my ANH Stunt Helm i relized I might be the worst painter in the entire Empire. Does anyone have any tips? I dont want to have to go out and purchase decals after buying paint and modelling brushes... I appreciate any input
  20. Yeah Ive looked into it, but to be honest Im terrible at crafts, and I just know id screw the sculpt up terribly. Not to mention painting. But yeah I will post this there too when I can.
  21. HAs anyone ever heard of this website? Can they be trusted? Anyone know of the final quality of the armor? Im thinking about doing it but dont want to drop $1300 on crap
  22. Wow interesting. I did not even consider the oven or open stove an option. Thanks all. And yeah good advice I will definetly practice first and excess material.
  23. So as I have assembled most of the rest of the armor, I have reached the point of the shoulder straps and ammunition belt bending. I saw the tutorial posted on this site but it just says "low heat" and no specific numbers. I was wondering since this is just ABS plastic wouldnt a high powered hair dryer do? Or would I still need to go out and purchase a specific heat gun? Also after I get the curve I want how do I set it down to cool, without it warping or something? That might be a dumb question but I have never worked with these kinds of things before and dont want to ruin it. Thanks
  24. Hey so as many of you know you end up shaving a lot off excess plastic off when building a kit. I've never worked with this material before and was wondering: can this excess be melted down and recast into extra parts like the hand plates or knee plates? Thanks
  25. Wow may I ask where you got the pieces or guide on how to make the suit? And a rough cost?
