Would any admin who happens to be reading this be willing to change the title of my thread to "ATA/CAP Magma Trooper W.I.P."? I'd do it myself...but I can't figure it out to save my life -

I still have the Trooperbay handguards un-painted. I placed an order for a Doopydoos resin kit for my Hasbro, which should arrive sometime in mid-January. I sent a payment to Scootch for a CAP helmet kit, which I plan to cover in red paint and ANH TK decals. PM sent to DizzyStormtrooper on the SpecOps forum about my thigh armor. Awaiting TD belt clips from Bondservnt. Expecting to get this build done sometime in mid-February, but I've been wrong about my predictions before -
MTK uses zap a gap because he's built suits before. He has experience. I, too was over-confident with my first build and wound up paying for it.
-
I used zap a gap on my build before I knew any better. So after some parts started cracking, I learned my lesson and used E6000 on the replacements. So yes, my build has a combination of the two, but it's in your best interest to use ONLY the E6000, ESPECIALLY for the shins. You're going to open and close your shins a lot, and the CA glue doesn't allow the parts to flex. Yes, E6 it takes longer to cure, but it's worth it. You'll actually be saving time, by not having to go out and buy replacement parts that you screwed up with super glue.

If you're looking for a bigger helmet, eFX (MRCE) helmets have a lot of room, and look a lot better than FX. The eFX needs mods to be approved, and there are a ton of tutorials here on how to do that http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/23559-modding-the-efx-anh-stunt-helmet/?hl=%2Bmrce#entry296567 Or you could try RT-Mod, which (I believe) has a helmet that's roughly 5% bigger than most other buckets

Most kits come with ab plate buttons. You supply the paint. What kit are you looking into getting?

Should trooperbay change to flat rate shipping?
mikedwelle94 replied to TK-4510's topic in Off Topic
Agreeing with Anthony here. I only buy small things as I need them. I can imagine it would be a good idea if someone was buying in bulk, but I don't know many people who do that. I'd hate to pay $9.99 on top of a pair of gloves or a neck wallet costing nearly the same as the proposed shipping cost. Should this change occur, I'd be forced to buy in bulk, or find supplies elsewhere. And I'd hate to do that because I've had a great experience with TrooperBay up to this point. My $0.02 -
Even if there was such a thing, you'd probably need to have a cleared TK costume and 501st access to get it. As far as I know, that's usually how it works with FISD-branded merchandise. They probably sell stuff like this on the 501st-only forums, which you and I don't have access to.

Tall and Skinny. Need Help!?

That's mostly everyone's attitude just starting out. Once you get a feel for the materials you're working with, you'll gradually feel more confident. Practice on some scrap plastic, or start something simple like your Thermal Detonator to give you that confidence boost. -

I'm about 5'10' and 120 lbs. I hear that ATA armor is geared toward smaller troopers and is more budget-friendly, but it's still a loose fit on me. I don't remember if ATA has the option of ordering armor pre-trimmed, but that's what email is for. I'll also agree that AP is a good choice, if you have the money for it. If you go the pre-trimmed AP route, you may consider further trimming, or adding in some foam padding on the insides of some of your armor such as the forearms or thighs, to make them more snug. -
You'll find all the info you need at clonetroopers.net, the Clone Trooper Detachment forum of the 501st. Good luck on your build

To those of you following my thread on FISD, I've cleared things up on the Spec Ops forum. I take back what I wrote about the ATA armor, and am chalking it up to a bad assembly on my part. Recommend you go over there and check it out if you don't like what you're seeing right here. I'm not doing all that copying + pasting again -

I've repaired the thighs. Upon inspection of my other armor pieces, I found a crack on the inside of my right forearm (which I also fixed). I also found a crack on the coverstrip of my left shin... ...(Removed that big block of text containing an anti-ATA rant... I don't really hate ATA.) -

My set of 100 snaps and snap setting tool have arrived from the Tandy Leather Factory yesterday, and I've been successful in making solid connections this time. I followed the advice of troopers from FISD and Spec Ops and have attempted to trim down my thigh armor. Result: another screw-up. Here are pics of my disintegrating right thigh: I cut out the entire glued section. The raised ridges and rear coverstrip are gone on both armor pieces, and there is still room for more trimming after a test fit. I've decided against doing more trimming based on the fact that I can make it work with my thigh garters. The resulting damage I should have completely disassembled before the trimming. To those of you who advised me to trim down, you were correct in that it needed to be done, it's just that I've gone about it the wrong way. When the right thigh flexed after the trim, the rest of the piece was put under stress, resulting in MANY cracks, most of which I was unable to capture using my phone's camera. I may repair these smaller ones by soaking a piece of cloth with E6000 and applying it to the inside of the affected area. As for the fractured front coverstrip, I'm at a loss. I might try the acetone + scrap plastic method for this. Fractured thigh ammo pack Thinking about the acetone + scrap plastic method here as well. Yes, I'm well aware of the placement of my split rivets and am considering ways I can remove these. I'll need to fill in these holes... Any advice on how I can repair these damages will be appreciated! I'd like to try and get this repaired and ready to go before Halloween. The last thing I want to see is someone suggesting I buy replacement parts. If that's what I have to do, fine, but be prepared to convince me! My boss at the grocery store has given me the green light to wear the suit (minus the helmet) at my register, so I'd hate to disappoint! -
I wasnt sure where to put this but .. help with garrison

OP is in a better position than I am! Living in central Maine, it's a long drive up to Canada, and a long drive down to New Hampshire. There are barely any troops in Maine! >rant over But yeah, I think a transfer is an option for you if you think it's necessary. -

I hear about the constant upgrading and maintaining of peoples' suits who have done it better than me the first time...I'll be doing quite a bit of it myself -

Update: I ordered a set of 100 Line 24 snaps from the Tandy Leather Factory. With that, I have the proper snap setter, woven elastic straps, and nylon webbing for the chest to back connection. I ripped apart my thigh armor and trimmed off more plastic. I have my thermal detonator finished, aside from the belt attachment. Thanks again for hooking me up with those end caps, Vern! I'll be getting more work done the day my snaps arrive, provided I have time outside of college and my job. Pictures will be posted, so stay tuned! In the meantime, here're a couple fun pics of me and my assassin friend photobombing an interview!! The first shot I found of my back, and how much of a mess it was -
I have to agree with Sergiu here. And why recast something that isn't even in the top tier of accuracy? eFX isn't exactly kingpin when it comes to accurate helmets. If you must recast (and by "must", I mean like your life depends on it) then why not CAP? From what I understand, that's fair game.

Magma Trooper - ATA (WIP)
mikedwelle94 replied to LChute1158's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Stunning. Simply beautiful! I regret not getting the ATA helmet now... I'm assuming ATA doesn't have an 8 month wait list for red armor? You got it very fast! Be sure to post updates here, on Spec Ops, and on your Garrison's forum. That way, you'll get the maximum amount of feedback! 100th post!! :,)
