I have NE armor and that return edge is a killer. I am a tall guy (6'3") and had some concerns with the spacing between my cod and thighs. I had some major bite issues after I got it built and approved and went back and removed the return edge completely from the top of the thighs, and re-did the straps to turn the thighs out a little. Of course, I have a ton of space between my thighs and cod now, but at least I'm comfortable walking around. ------------

Unless I'm mistaken, that is an 3-piece NE bucket. From what I see, your tube stripes are backwards, bend should be toward the back of the helmet. Also, you have your bucket painted like a ROTJ helmet (black frown), but your button plates are in ANH/ESB position. Also, you will certainly need some new boots. Elvis boots aren't allowed for 501st approval.

If you have extra plastic (even scraps from trims will do) it won't hurt anything to reinforce your butt joints, and the loss of internal diameter is fairly negligible.

As often as people have posted asking for help with their NE helmet builds, this topic should be pinned for easy access. I love my NE helmet, but it was a brute to build without instruction, and there are lots of folks that will benefit from this tutorial. Thanks for taking the time to show the process for everyone!

I got mine in on Monday and they are great. I went with a size 12 and they are perfect in length, but a little roomy around the foot. I had to put a couple of inserts in to make them comfortable. I hated watching my painted Jodhpurs crack and scuff all the white off. I'll keep them in case I do a sandy in the future.

In case anyone is looking for boots, I just picked up a pair of size 12s from tkboots. He is back in production now, although he says it will still be a couple of months before he has a steady supply of size 10 and 11 boots. Just thought I'd share!

I just took a strip of industrial strength adhesive velcro and stuck a bit of loop to the inside of my boot and shins, then use the hooks to hold everything together. So far, I've had no issues.

I have a hope of some day casting my own armor (FOR MY OWN USE). I even built a vacuum table, bought a high quality mannequin, 30 lbs of clay, tools, several sheets of plastic, etc. Then I spent about a month trying to create my first mold, starting with a clay forearm piece, then making a plug and eventually running the vacuum table to pull a sheet or two of plastic to see how it looked. The results were.... interesting. After nearly $1,000 I had managed to pull this: Obviously, there are too many problems to mention. The moral of the story? Buy yourself a good kit and get trooping!! I

Be aware that the ears are smaller on the NE kit than they should be. For me, this meant a half-inch gap between the top of the ears and the bottom of the dome that I could not find a solution for. Hopefully you will have better luck!

For your helmet, unless you have ears different than mine, you will have roughly a half-inch gap between the top of the ear piece and the bottom of the dome. The way you trimmed the back of the helmet should not cause you any issues, just be aware that no matter how much you fight it you will likely have the same gap I had. Also, the neck tubes and cheek tubes are different diameters, making it difficult to create a good transition from the back of the helmet to the face. I had to put a rivet right at the top of the tube to squeeze the plastic together before mounting the ears. Of course, I didn't take any pictures or I'd happily share.

Redforce, It really is a small world. Would you believe that I have your NE build thread saved to my fav's and that I used it as a guide for my own build? I didn't realize that until today. So strange!

I honestly like my NE armor. Aside from the ears being too small, the overall look of the helmet is good. The rest of the armor has good detail and I like the shiny white finish on the ABS. I'm pretty tall too (6' 3") and it worked out well for me. Dave - As far as ABS glue goes, forget what they sent you and go with E-6000. It is easier to work with, easier to clean up if you get some where you didn't want it, and if you make a mistake somewhere along the way it is easy to pull apart and re-do. Thanks for talking with me this weekend. It was cool to meet some folks outside of Garrison Carida. But really, the NE armor worked out for me (hopefully, still waiting on approval 3 weeks going).

I'm 6'3" and about 210 lbs. I put the NE kit together with absolutely no trimming on the legs and only minimal trimming on the forearms to make the front and back pieces even. This was my first build and the helmet was a pain, but with some patience, sweat, and a little blood I made it work. I am currently waiting on approval and my advisor assures me I shouldn't have any issues. I think it looks amazing, but being my first build I have very little to compare it to. Hey man, any recent updates on your armor build? I've been using you as something of a guide for my own build and just started working on the bucket yesterday. I'm interested to see if you found a way to solve the ear piece issue (I loved the solution to the gap at the seam).
