  1. The only reason I was looking for that purple, is it is so easy to see your work. I am afraid with the white or plain colored ones, it's going to be a bigger pain.
  2. Yeah, but the shipping to USA will probably be double or triple the retail price of it. Got some Micromark Micro Mask on the way home. It is blue so it will be easy to see. I am going to test it first.
  3. Awesome lid, Dan! Definitely the look I am going to go for!
  4. Yeah, I might have to hunt for something comparable. Humbrol is a UK product and both of my big hobby shops here don't carry it. Haven't found any online places to order it here either.
  5. From what I am reading you can also use liquid latex (since most masking fluid is a latex base anyway), I just know that the actual liquid masks can give you a lot cleaner edges and better detail. And was reading that the Humbrol was a favorite.
  6. R2 Dan, I searched Maskol and whattya know! Thanks for the tip! Now to find some!
  7. That might be it R2Dan. I will look into it. The stuff I have seen here and on TDH is what Bobamaker used in his tutorial. Hmmm maybe I should just ask him! -----
  8. I have seen it used here and TDH a lot but after a bunch of searches, I still haven't found a brand name for the purple masking fluid that lots of you use. If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated!
  9. Nope. From seeing everyone else's awesome helmets, the taupe is a perfect HDPE type undercolor for doing a weathered ANH helmet! Meijer and Home Depot have basic colors in the plastic line, but no Taupe!
  10. Hey all, Since I have a trooper helmet kit on order, I have gone out looking for paint already. Is there a particular store where you guys are having luck in finding the Rust-Oleum for Plastic Taupe? Tonight alone I went to Meijer, Hobby Lobby, Jo-Ann, Home Depot and Lowes and NONE of them had it. Only Home Depot and Meijer even carried the "Plastic" line, but alas, no taupe. I have had my eye on the Krylon Khaki that I saw at Walmart that might be a fitting substitute with the right combination of a sage color. If there is a store I haven't thought of, I'd love to hear it. I hate buying online, but I guess if I have no choice, I will.
  11. Ahhh, what a wonderful addiction to have, though! Nice collection!
  12. Yeah, I worry about joining and then never being able to go to events, etc since I am so busy with work, life, etc.
  13. Rustoleum, from when I used it a looooong time ago on an old Fett helmet took a while to fully cure. It's called "gassing out" and it is how that paint sets up. Depending on how thick you put it on, sometimes you may have to leave it sit before really handling it a lot. I used to use some Rustoleum engine enamels on model cars and I could handle them in a day or too, but the strong smell was there, which means it is still curing. I waited a good month before clear coating and polishing to be safe. Not suggesting you have to wait THAT long, just an example!
  14. I was just wondering if there are people here who participate in this hobby simply for the love of SW movies and prop collecting, but haven't or have no desire to join the 501st. When i had my first set of armor, I never joined. Not because I didn't want to, just never did. Then I sold my armor. This time around I am starting out just for the sake of enjoyment, so a request for the 501st is still up in the air for me. Just curious!
  15. I think I love this one as much as your ANH helmet! Looks like it came direct from Bespin!
  16. I am not sure what to say that hasn't been said already, but since finding this site, I keep going back to this helmet build and looking at the photos again and again. It's so authentic looking, it is THE helmet I would love to have displayed. Amazing work!
  17. AJCG - Your last helmet is amazing. I love the vintage look of it! Did you do all the weathering yourself?
