Lone wolf replied to Volumino's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Nice job so far, -
my ANH TM stunt armor with original strapping
Lone wolf replied to vecspeed12's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Great costume, fits you perfectly. The close up pics are also great, TM made a lovely job of it all. -
My wee lad Pete, he loves the Sandie, used to be a shiny, wants to go Biker Scout now, Alison[X Wing Pilot and Jedi Sentinel], my lovely wife, made the shoulder pauldron, I made the little backpack, the armour kit was an Ebay buy. There is no problems with the various troopers in our house.

I have been a Biker Scout costumer longer than a Stormtrooper costumer, my 7 year old has a Sandtrooper costume, I think they are all great Star Wars costumes. Of course we still like to take the piss out of each other on troops, nappy wearing, terrible shooting skills etc etc. all fun.

Vacuum Forming and Drying Plastics
Lone wolf replied to Patrick Crawford's topic in The Foundry - Armor and Prop Making
ABS needs to be dried first, it absorbs moisture from the air so air drying doesn't work. This is why school vacforming will use HIPS instead of ABS, it is easier to vacform. My local vacforming shop will dry the ABS in their ovens before I buy it off them. The ovens are on 24/7 as it is a fairly busy place.I was fairly surprised just how long they put the sheets in for. -
RS Prop Masters ANH PVC Build
Lone wolf replied to Volumino's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Nice work Kevin, do you think the return edge is strong enough for accurate strapping ? I intend to do this as well with my PVC kit. -
Surely when you were a member of the Emerald Garrison you must have read the many, many posts about Stormtrooper shop/Jedi Robes? I am surprised if you didn't read some of the reputable suppliers available. I hope you enjoy the FISD forums.

RS Props Stormtrooper kit [*RS]
Lone wolf replied to Lone wolf's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Yes I have the full kit Paul, sorting out the lid first, the armour is half trimmed and a few bits are test taped together, things look pretty good so far. By the time ROTJ came about the prop guys were making some decent stuff, the Biker Scout lid, Royal Guard and ROTJ style Stormtroopers were much neater. It is a surprise for most of us to see the warts and bumps of the Star Wars Stormtroopers, maybe Andrew Ainsworth had a very dusty, dirty wood shaving shop with a vac former in the middle of it! -
My latest addition to an ever increasing amount of Star Wars stuff, the RS Props Stormtrooper kit. Pics of the lid so far, I am very happy with the details, and the fact there has been as little tampering with the moulds as practicably possible.

How many incenerator troopers are actually out there?
Lone wolf replied to Wiggleplum's topic in Incinerator Trooper
Hi John, it isn't my kit, I am shiney TK all the way He made it last year, but is now away from the club. I am trying to get somebody from the Emerald Garrison to buy it, we have a Stormtrooper commander and I think they would look pretty cool trooping together. -

Lone wolf replied to Wiggleplum's topic in Incinerator Trooper
One Incinerator trooper here in Ireland, not 501st, does this not count? -
No Juan, I was testing out my vacformer and proving to myself just how easy it is to make a recast faceplate, the plastic is an offcut from a local vacforming shop. I don't want to get involved in the Stormtrooper nonsense cast/recast/modified/fan sculpt/approved/bought"rights"/etc etc, all I can say is that the actual vacforming is very very easy to do, I suppose this is why there are so many different helmets to buy.

MATT now pestering Andrew A on his FB page..
Lone wolf replied to sixxgunn13's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
AA and the team, Brian and Liz I actually believed that everyone here were all in some sort of agreement that AA was not the sculptor but the second guy to vacform the costume and helmet after the studio vac machine packed in or had too many other pieces of set etc to do[We know there was a lot of set decoration to do for ANH] . They then turned the moulds/tools/bucks over to the nearest vac shop to complete the suits for the Tunisia shoot. Is the evidence from Brian Muir not enough, he hasn't been proven time and again to be telling lies, unlike AA, who, if anyone has been following over the last few years, has changed his story many , many times so far, until the next story, just after the latest where he has just "found" an old face plate with the tear detail . I am not here to convince anybody about anything but my views are now written down , right or wrong. -
Was the Simon Helmet in the movie?
Lone wolf replied to LittleOne's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
This pic may explain how the suit escaped LFL, being a part of the promotion cossys, also why it may be in the other promo pics as well. -
CFO ROTJ helmet: Make it dirty!
Lone wolf replied to Verne's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Very nice , it certainly has the ROTJ look, just needs a few Ewoks bashing the sh.t out of it. -
Cap W, just another recast on the block.
-
I was playing about with an offcut of carbon fibre effect ABS , I think this would be very cool as a complete suit
-
It is a shame this helmet is not fully accurate but will still look great when it is finished.

Was there a other mould?
Lone wolf replied to Turrican's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
The tear detail was sculpted into the helmet because it was on the original design sketches, not inside a tear shape but on this particular spot on the face design. It was on several of the designs at different stages so it stayed on the final sculpt. Maybe the final painters were going to highlight it but once they saw the final vacfomed faceplates realised it was not a great detail after all. Regarding HDPE causing this "flaw" well this is not true. -
Losing weight is not an issue here, I have trained in Karate since childhood and it is all muscle  I will probably try to shim it as I can't leave anything alone, I do think it may look terrible as I also think it will be this big wedge style needed. Yes TM is the way to go if I ever do another build, you lucky troopers
-
Thanks Dennis, yes I had the MR styled like a hero so my good wife made me a hero belt, then I got a stunt helmet. I will change the belt/rivet inaccuracies eventually or get a Hero lid or do both. Yes the "green stuff" , you speak to my CO! This is my predicament, dodgy looking shimming or a gap at the top? As you can see , how do I get the balance of accuracy either way?
-
I have big thighs and my thigh armour is at the skintight position! I didn't want to make the rear seam look strange , hoping that the armour could get a fairly decent appearance without need for additional strips. I wondered what some of you guys think of this, I was even thinking about repositioning the butt plate/back and codpiece down a bit to reduce the gap at the top of the thighs,

Was there a other mould?
Lone wolf replied to Turrican's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
The tear detail is on the first batch, stunt type, it is on the hero ,the Tie and AT AT Driver helmets as well. I think the stunt was recasted, cleaned up a bit and pulled in ABS.This is why the detail remains, the fatter appearance is possibly because the recasting process was by using a plaster mould taken from the inside of an HDPE stunt which wasnt supported very well. I suspect the original mould was knackered after the first 50 pulls so couldn't be cleaned up, maybe a poor quality mould to start with as it was only to last for a short time. At Lou, this detail appeared pretty silly to me as well initially until I saw the designs for the Stormtrooper helmet, this detail stayed in the various changes so was put into the sculpt at the end.So somebody wanted it to stay there, even if we don't really see it. Yes I know, too many maybes in my "theory" , who knows. -
Sorry to hear that Warren, open face characters will never be exactly the same looking as the actor who played it.If that was a rule nobody could do this type of character. It is a shame really as every Star Wars fan who has ever seen you troop in Ireland knows exactly who you are trying to be.UKG loss is the Emerald Garrison's gain.Don't let this put you off the 501st,although it is a shame that non 501st guys can't have the same access to parts of these types of forums as 501st guys. MAY THE fORCE BE WITH YOU
