Yeah I agree with Moot. I tried looking around the other detachment forums in the legion and after at least a couple of hours of browsing through each I still have no idea how to go about getting a kit for the character the detachment represented. But here it only takes 5 minutes or less to familiarize yourself with that info. In short. The FISD. Best detachment.

I'm not really trying to do any specific style except for an ANH Stunt style. I don't want to attempt a specific style and end up being wrong. Will keep posting pics of my build as I go.

I just spent the whole day trimming the cap n' back with just an Xacto knife and a pair of cheap paper scissors. My hand and fingers feel like they're gonna fall off. First thing tomorrow I'm buying either lexan scissors or anything similar before I even touch my kit again. I still have the bottom of the face plate & teeth before I start drilling and putting things together. I'll post pics tomorrow. Thanks for all the advice. Will work on the eyes a little bit more and I'll try and be more confident with trimming the teeth. BTW, what do you guys do about little mistakes/cuts that you make whenever your Xacto knife slips a little? I have a couple and I've sanded them down but is there anything else I should do? I'm painting the helmet later on so I think that should hide all my mistakes.

I've opened the eyes up by a lot. Are these good enough? And am I trimming the teeth and eyes the right way?

Thanks for all the advice Richard. I'm learning a lot from your advice and pictures. I'm trying to trim the cap and I'm having a really hard time as well. The score and snap method doesn't seem to work with this piece.

Thanks for all the advice. I actually bought 300 and 600 grit sandpaper today and a set of needle files. Here are pictures of my progress so far: Here are the ears. I need to do a bit more sanding to them to make them smoother. And here's what I've done with the face plate so far. I know I still have a lot of trimming to do with both the teeth and eyes. Am I cutting/trimming the eyes correctly? Are they that deep? Any and all advice would be appreciated.

I've finished trimming the ears and I'm a bit nervous how they fit with the rest of the helmet. I'm working on the teeth now. Having a really hard time with them. I used a drill to make pilot holes and I'm cutting bit by bit off using my Xacto knife. I don't want to use the drill other than for the pilot holes because it's a hand drill and not a dremel so I don't have much control. Will post pics of the ears and the teeth a bit later.

I just made my first score around one of the ears. It was one of the most nerve-racking things I've done in a long time. My heart was pounding while my Xacto knife was going through the line I drew a few millimeters from the mold lines. I'm leaving a bit of extra plastic to leave room for fitting on the helmet. I'm going to take a fiver and do my second run on the score after.

I noticed this as well. I just ended up changing my character encoding to Western ISO-8859-1 to fix it.

Thanks! That's what I'm following now. Is it normal that small thin bits of plastic would peel off whenever I snapped a scored piece off?

Thanks! Cool that we have the same dog. I tried practice trimming the excess plastic from the ears a bit and ended up with nothing. My Xacto blade couldn't even get a 1/2mm cut into the plastic. All it did was make really shallow lines even with some force. Any tips? Also, can anyone point me to a detailed tutorial on how to build this kit (if any exists)?

It's finally here! I picked this up from the post office today. I was relieved that I wasn't taxed as much as I expected. Bentley likes the box as well! It's packed really well and the box was in excellent condition. All spread out in its unassembled glory. I'll post more pics when I start working on it later tonight. I'm still too nervous to start on it. Will go through a couple of build threads/tutorials first so I can gain some confidence. I'd just like to say thanks to Terrell/Supertrooper for helping me take my first steps not only into the 501st but also the hobby as well.

It's actually said in page 15/16 that the armor was black like their RC armor but that was the only thing similar.

Aren't Imperial Commandos (in the 501st novel by Karen Traviss) stormtroopers with Black Armor or in other words TX's. It's mentioned in the book several times (both directly and indirectly) that the armor was a new design from Darman/Niner's RC armor and at one point it is mentioned that they were wearing TK armor and referenced themselves as "Stormtroopers" but Ordo couldn't use the white TK armor they had to infiltrate the commando barracks because it was white. My memory might be wrong though. And also it's Travissverse so not sure if it's LFL canon since LFL pretty much trashed everything Traviss wrote.

Yeah I've seen those and would love to get a pair someday. I was just wondering if there were any other acceptable alternatives like fitting Styrofoam and wrapping it with latex or something Thanks for clearing that up Daetrin. I started getting confused with the SHOULD'S and the MUST'S. But at least that's one less thing to do/buy/make to get EIB. Thanks again Daetrin.

Ok, that's a bit confusing 'cos the "* Drop boxes should be closed in back" item is under the MUST HAVE list for ANH Stunt EIB. So if I understand correctly, if the item says should even if it's under the MUST HAVE list then it's not required for EIB just recommended? 'Cos all of these are under the MUST HAVE list: * Shoulder straps should not be attached with rivets, and should free float in the back rather than being permanently attached. * Armor side gaps should be closed. This should be done by adding a shim or shims of material that must be of similar material and color as the ab and back plate. Shims should fit flush and may have seams. Ideally they will be seamless if possible to the ab and/or back plate, resulting in a single seam between the ab/back rather than extra seams for where the shims are joined. * O2 canister should be attached via metal clips approximately 1 inch wide, and should be all gray without silver stickers or silver paint. * Drop boxes should be closed in back * Holster should be attached to the belt from behind instead with no loops covering the outside of the belt, using two fasteners at the bottom. These may be rivets or Chicago screws. * Lenses should be flat green only. * Ears should have three screws used per side, one above and below the ear bump and one at the base of the helmet * Ears should have four bumps only instead of three

I'm going to be shooting for EIB when I start my armor build in a couple of months and I was wondering what EIB acceptable alternatives are there to "close" the drop boxes? And an OT question: Is an ATA bucket EIB passable? Thanks
