  1. Sounds like a plan to me.. I will run out and get some p-board this afternoon.. and get to experimenting..
  2. I wasnt sure to post here or in the TE specific thread..... Well to my issue. I have started working on my upper thighs, and in trying to get as close as possible to the correct size front strip I realized last night thats going to be a problem. Currently I am at about 35 mm. If I try and go any smaller in front, its goign to start making the back "flair" the back out like a book, (the strip being the book spine. I am really unsure of how to continue. I obviously dont want to cut anymore as I cant add that back, but I dont see how either option is going to really look right, a 35 mm strip is way larger than the battery belt. I would also think that the flair would make the armor look off as well. I would think that either one would really hinder my chances at approval. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I wish that I had know about some of the larger armors out there when I bought my armor, but hind-site is always 20/20 and I have to work with what I have on this build.. I am getting so close to the end of this journey, and I have had some bumps along the way.. but this by far seems to be the one thats going to cause me the most grief...
  3. OK.. Little Im a little worried now... I have been using E-6K for my entire build and havent had issue issues as yet.. But in reading this and seeing about the chance at when I start putting in my snaps I could basically destroy the entire job.. Pretty much I dont have a choice in using anything aside from E-6 which is why I am glad that its works as well as it does.. maybe I am hitting the panic button a little early since Im starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel,be my luck the light is a train... guess maybe if I get get the making the snap plate footprint a little larger broke down for me.. gess im just not grasping that concept for whatever reason.. I understand the footprint idea, but not in relation to the snap plate....
  4. Yeah... got the punch.. allthough doesnt work as well on plastic as it does on wood..(I think thats mainly because Ill knock the well you know what on wood, think I hold back when Im setting it on plastic.. think im afraid ill break the pvc.. like its as thin as my armor..) hahahah had to take a poke at myself... seriously though Ill be using my step bit and drill press for that build....
  5. Actually I think that I downloaded both versions... the Iambubby zip which is I think the 1.25 and then the other is the 1.5 I actually had the problem with both, I will open them with the paint and print from there and see how that works out.. thanks a lot....
  6. OK not sure how I missed your Hasbro job Qtroop but that is a nice bit of material to look at...I have to be careful though and not get too ambitious and take away from armor building time.. I still gotta get my armor finished so I can get approved... I will be trying my best to make everything EIB level on the first run.. as always I knew I could count on good advice.... I gotta remember to start posting some pics.. I get into building.. and forget to snap a few pixels....
  7. I actually have that and all the resin parts to go along with.. just cant figure out how to get it printed... when I unzipped the file it wasnt saved as anything so I resaved as a jpg and it wont print.. any help on the printing and if it comes out at the right size I will be more than glad to accept. as I do want a full sized e-11... the hasbro was a fill in till I could get the full sized done...
  8. I decided that if I could remove all of my resin parts from my Hasbro I would go hard core on the mod, and make it as close I can get even though it will be slighlty smaller in stature. I am goign to remove all of the pre-existing t-track drill and drill holes. My biggest question is... I have looked at pictures and searched till I fell like my eyes are going to pop.. Im sure its somewhere and I have just overlooked it but is there a preferred number of t-tracks... I have seen many configurations, some with 5, (placed on different vent holes) some with 7... So what is the right number? I could try checking the movies, but I dont know if I could catch both sides of the same blaster. If it does make a difference I am going for ANH... Thanks
  9. I was curious if anyone has tried wet sanding styrene with Micro Mesh yet? I thought that I would give it a try and my order just arrived today. If this stuff works as good as it is supposed Im hoping that it will really make my styrene come to life... cant wait to give it a go this weekend...
  10. Gotta love good options....I really like the idea of the plasti-dip spray..Mostly because I already have a full can of that sitting around from a lightsaber build. And no clue what else I would ever use it for.... It is good stuff
  11. Sweet.... Good deal... I believe I could use the extra strength... thanks
  12. I am not quite ready to start on my bucket yet. But I always like to start getting my supplies together early. I noticed that everyone has there interiors black, and I have seen the posts on here before. Just cant seem to find right now. What does everyone use for the interior paint? Plain black, or I thought maybe I had seen something about spray in truck liner?
  13. I know this is an older thread, and there is really not anything new that can be added about staying away from this guy and pretty much armor on ebay in general.. (Still wish I had found FISD and my garison prior to buying my armor) Anyways, I was doing some digging and I came across my orignial big brown box.. and while granted its not concrete, but a little deductive resoning and I came up with the fact I bought my armor from makerofthings! before he became maker of things. Only redeeming factor is I gave about half of what he is asking now for it. Same city and state, same pictures used in his ebay description. From personal experience avoid it like its coated in radioactive waste. I doubt that he has gotten much better at making them seeing as how he is still using super thin styrene. They are way too thin, there are cracks, lots of "wonky-crooked" parts, my left bicep was basically flat, the helmet and face mask have so many folds and cracks that it looks like someone that has had too many face-lifts and requires so much bondo putty that it wont be started till im finished with everything else. I have a feeling that some of our better builders would be pulling out hair trying to make it look good. Not something recommended for a first-timer in my opinion. Its simply not worth the savings. You would rack up much more in heart ache and grief with it. I will get off my soap box preaching, I know I was a little long winded, but I have to admit it felt good to really vent about this guys product finally and this was the perfect place to do it.
  14. I can agree with that.. As I said I have learned a ton from bouncing around in the forums on here, little something from one, put it with something from another.. I really believe if it wasn't for finally starting to get involved and both reading and asking questions in here.. I would still looking at my big brown box full of plastic scratching my head....Of course I still stare at my armor at times scratching my head, but at least its in the middle of working on something now. Guess I need to get a thread up with what all I have done so I can get some good constructive crtiscism and get this armor done in the near or not so near future.. However long it takes...
  15. OK.. I have it now... so I had the total overall length for my tube.. and trim up the stryene a little more.. an easy fix.... I know I can always count on getting put back on the right path here...Thanks guys
  16. Before I start gluing and trying to put the belt clips on, I kept looking at this and it just seems off. Ive got the pipe cut at 7 1/2" but I am unsure if the caps need to be a little more narrow or if its something else. Something just seems off when I look at it. I need to work on polishing it up a bit more, but I dont think that is whats got me so puzzled.
  17. I was not sure where to drop this, so I figured this would be a safe place... I was thinking as a newbie, I post updates on my build with my garrison. I see all the great threads from the guys who have built numerous sets. Hwever, I havent seen any from us new guys up here, I was wondering if us throwing build threads up here also would be a good idea, would make it easy for asking for help, also suggestions could be given as to what looks like its right or wrong, or hey if you did "this or that" it would be good for your EIB, etc. I understand that my local garrison can help in many ways, but I was also thinking that a thread here from a rookie, would possibly have a little more "weight" so to say posted here, where everyone is a TK, not a mix of everything. Just a thought...
  18. Hey Newtroop2.. Glad to see another new recruit from Carida, and sadly cutting my teeth on the same make of armor.. I just got my helmet parts from TK4150 myself.. It took all the leg work out of trying to track that stuff down one at a time. I was dreading getting to the helmet, now I am actually looking forward to it..
  19. I saved this thread as I am starting the painting process on a few of my finished parts, Which Novus have you guys used? 1, 2, or 3? Im going to attempt and see if anyone carries it locally, I dont figure thats likely to happen but doesnt hurt to try, if not Ill just order some and wait to polish it up..
  20. Congrats on the wedding..... I have been several times playing darts. Its not really my thing, but the Blue Man groups is supposed to be one that you have to go see... Really depends on who is under contract at what hotel/casino this year as to where the shows are. They change every couple of years.. Take it from me, dont let anyone try talking you into trying the 6 pound burrito challenge at the Nascar Cafe at the Sahara....
  21. Sorry just wanted to clarify the new lines are closer, not the old....
  22. OK I know I am really going to show how much of a newb I am with this, but better to ask than not and find out the hard way after the fact.. I have learned that much for sure. In the first pic, I am thinking that the circled portion are the screw/rivet covers for the ammo clip portion of the belt? I know the four circles go along with another portion that goes on the abdomen. In this next one, the handguards were actually one of the first pieces that I worked on, I was getting ready to paint them today, and started looking, I am pretty sure that I need to cut more. I have placed the lines where I thought now in hind-site look more as they should. Thanks for any help. I apologize for all the "hand holding" Im asking for but this is too important to me, to really leave anything to chance.
  23. I was curious if anyone had found any good replacement options or work arounds for the thermal det/ o2 canister clips? I have 3 of the big boy office supply companys really close to me, Office Max, Staples, Office Depot.. None of which carry the bankers clasps/clips anymore. Office Max carries but never at my local store which means they wont even let me order online, and it would seem that they are on permanent backorder..Ebay doesnt even seem to have em. Only places I can seem to find them on line is what appear to be strickly e-based office supply stores that I would in no way trust with a one of those fake credit cards that come in the mail... much less the real deal. I know people sell high end slips, and dont get me wrong I have no problems spending money on my armor to make it look as well as i can, but something as small and as simple as this (not to mention its starting to get personal) I just feel that thats a little overkill to spend that much. Thanks.....
  24. Panda thanks again.. can always count on you giving some sage advice... I guess I need to figure out which of the paints I am going to go with I purchased a can of of the Rustoleum Lacquer to test and see if it looks good. I have seen posts on it, with if I remember correctly some mixed reviews. I do have the super fine finish wet sand paper so I should be able to get a shine with some practice and time, going to start practicing on my small parts like my drop boxes and hand guards and scraps... so I can try and get it down so when Im ready to paint the rest I wont have too many goofs to try and fix...
  25. OK Guys newb question.. I know about priming... I finally found some plastic primer in stock at Home depot, I had thought about going with regular gray primer, since I figured it would be easier to see what I had primed as to not against the white armor... But went with the smart play and bought the specific type... I thought that I remembered reading on a post in here somewhere that someone said that styrene should be sanding prior to priming, however I havent been able to find it again.. I just wanted to double check on this if anyone has built a set of styrene armor before that could lend a little insite....Both if its a good idea, waste of time, etc. And if it is, then what would be a suggested grit to use.. like a 220, 400, 1000, or a 2000. Since I have all of I should be covered, I know anything below 220 would be too rough I figure, just not sure which of the others would be preferable. Thanks Cadet Kirby Garrison Carida
