Thank you!
I just had a second look, and it might need a second coat on the right knee, but the left one, which is really the only one visible when worn properly looks great. I'm really pleased with the results.

So here's the results!
After sanding.
Applied some Humbrol satin white (#130) which I think matches the tone of the ABS fairly well.
Any leftover imperfections will be referred to as "battle damage"

Awesome tutorial mate!
Nice seeing some of your workshop and the moulds in the background, btw

Very nice and clear demonstration Tom!

Hello Jerry!
Both are accepted for 501st membership. And yes, out of the box I think the efx/mrce looks better. Both however require mods if you really want it to shine. I'm not even sure the FX-helmet can ever look truly great. The FX is not accepted for EIB applications, while the efx/mrce is, with the mods. If you're looking for a really good and cheap helmet, I would look for CAP-W or ATA instead, as these are screen accurate. You would however need to put it together yourself. But that applies to the FX-helmet as well.

Looks like you might want to trim trim some more on that knee plate. But other than that it looks pretty good, apart from what was mentioned above about the sandpaper.

I don't know what you mean, guys
Looking good, Locutus (of Borg)!
Thank you (queen) Karin!

We've got an obsessive, perfectionist tinkerer on our hands .... a man after my own heart!
Haha! Thanks Richard! I do like to tinker!

Okey, so the other day I made some ABS-Paste from some scraps I saved that I put in a glass jar with some acetone.
The reason for this was to fix something that annoyed me since the day I put the thighs together. *Note: I have only myself to blame for this. I was sloppy when I trimmed the thighs. That's why I had to cover that up with the joining strip. The purpose of this post is to show that you don't always have to live with the mistakes you do.
This:
So with a little score-and-snap I had this
Then I applied the ABS-paste with a disposable spoon. It was a bit tricky but I will sand it down when hardened.
And here's the tools.

it's not that hard. You just need a ruler, preferably one in metal, a pair of good scissors or a sharp knife and some E-6000. And some guts. No guts, no glory

Looks like an FX. And why is his shoulder strap attached to his right knee?
-
Thanks Dan. Looks awesome!

I'm 5'11 (180cm) and 140lbs (70kg) and considering going for an AM since it's supposedly easy to build (and I don't have much space), but now I'm not so sure :-/
Tore, I think for your height and weight, you should go with one of the TE derived kits, like AP, ATA, TE2, Cap-w, etc...This kits are made for an average size person, (5'10" 160lbs).
Or TM's kit will work for your too!
Agreed! I'm even slimmer at about 176 cm and 62 Kg and the TM-kit fits me really well after some trimming. Highly recommended!

Turned out great!

They are hollow but have an engraved lense in the "back", and a roundish one in front. It does not actually function, but looks neat. I'll take pics of the lens later when I get back home from university
Sounds great. Looking forward to seeing the pictures!
-
I think it's just the flash from the camera that makes them look silver. I've seen that behaviour before in pics of black clothing for example.
EDIT: Nevermind...
-
BTW are there any glass pieces in the scopes, or anything at all?
If they are hollow like a pipe it should be quite easy to maybe disassemble it and mount some glass pieces yourself.
-
Nope, not possible. Latex shrinks about 7%, I need to make a complete new master mold for the non-latex ones.
Let me know how the paste works!
Ah I see. That's too bad. Double effort!
I'll try to remember to take some pictures as well!
-
We'll see Thanks for the kind words.
The non-latex don't take that long (only a couple of hours), and have many advantages.
These latex ones will be for the purists, with all the paint cracks, chips etc.
I guess you will make both latex and non-latex with these moulds if the results are good?
PS. I got some acetone and started making some ABS-paste today.

You've been talking about them for ages! Come on now stupid latex, dry faster! I want to see how it turns out

Hand guards with indented knuckle-marks?

What's the price for one of these beauties? PM me if you like to keep it off the forums. I'd consider it if the price is right.

Thanks, I'll adjust that stuff this weekend.
Question- the shoulder bell has a strap that runs around the arm. I see a few shots of bicep parts with a hook added, but some look like they don't have a hook. Do all have a hook and I just don't see it?
And hey, I LIKE GAFFERS TAPE. I plan on making a suit from it next.
The hook is optional. The strap you see is a piece of elastic that holds the bell close to your arm so you won't have it flopping around.
EDIT: Looks like I had an old cached view of this thread when I answered, and didn't know it had already been discussed.
