  1. Thanks for the info! I was given a video panning up the suit from bottom to top. I took screens caps, which are what you see posted.
  2. Here's a question for you old timers. I have an acquaintance looking to build a kit. It's one of those "been sitting in a box in someones garage for years" sorts of things. This is what I know: Kit is from a company called maybe "Hollywood FX" or "Trooper Supplies". The guy who sold it was named was Dale and he went by Wookiee Cantina. It's likely this is actually Dale Mattson, and the company was "Galaxy Trading". Our recruit has no idea when it was purchased or made, but it came into their possession in 2015. I found this blurb in the Legion History section of our site: "November 1998: Wookiee Cantina (Dale Mattson) opens web store (wookiee.com) to sell all kinds of sci-fi goods including trooper accessories. Somewhere around the beginning of 1999, the domain is appropriated by LFL. Reopens as Galaxy Trading around October 1999. Closes around April 2001." What I'm looking for is any information about the kit. Knowing its age, I immediately thought "FX", but I'd like input from some others. The bucket sure doesn't look like an FX to me. Thanks!
  3. One thing that bothers me is the apparent complete lack of return edge on any of the armor pieces.
  4. Hey FISD, I'm the GML for the ISG Garrison and I'd love a few opinions on an eBay armor set. We have a potential trooper who attempted to go the cheap route and pick up some ebay armor. He says his friend from the SoCal Garrison vetted it for him, but I have my doubts. I certainly have my owen opinion on whether this is approvable or not, but I wanted to get some alternate opinions from the experts here before I respond to him. He already purchased it (don't know how much $$$), but he hasn't started the build yet. Also, the armor is fiberglass (?!) 5. Been focusing on TD for a while now, but getting back into the clean white scene with a new build. Ive been going through a lot of WIP threads, and I've noticed a dearth of suspenders used for the strapping system. Back in the day, common practice seemed to be suspenders holding up the ab/cod and kidney/butt, then the chest and back free floating (maybe with elastic connecting the chest to the back on the sides). The new trend seems to be connecting the chest/ab/cod and the back/kidney/butt all as a single unit. Is anyone still using suspenders? Why the change? Would love to hear everyone's opinions.
  6. I love my AP kit. I'm 6'1" 185lbs and i think it fits me fine. I have about a 1" shim on the sides to close the gap.
  7. I don't know who did the Vader VO, since it was all done and supplied by LFL prior to shooting. It's a good bet though.
  8. Actually, Fett was one of ours. She did a great job! Vader, Chewie and Ackbar were supplied by LFL (all GREAT guys by the way), but we've done other filming events where SCG supplied the Vader, so it's not always a forgone conclusion. The best part of the shoot was after Ackbar did his last scene and we got to shout "It's a wrap!"
  9. Just wanted to share this link to the new Star Wars/ESPN commercial. I had the pleasure of being the TK on the left, while my buddy TK-6682 hogged the spotlight and got the speaking role (well, pretending to speak. Dee Bradley Baker did the actual voice over). A proud moment for FISD and the Southern California Garrison!
  10. 2643 = ANGE on a keypad. I wanted to make my TK number my wife's name because she's been so amazingly supportive of this hobby.
  11. I think I've found my white bantha gift for the next garrison christmas party!
  12. McMaster-Carr sells just about any kind of screen you would want, in any size. http://www.mcmaster.com/#wire-screens/=afpb5t I had to cut some woven screen once and I had pretty good luck with hitting it with clear coat to glue it all together so it didn't fray.
  13. The rom/fx unit has a feature that when the battery runs low, it begins to periodically reboot and play the "rom/fx" startup sound. As the battery gets lower, the reboots come more often. This can get annoying in the middle of a troop (especially if the unit is mounted in such a way that it's hard to get to), so I wanted a solution where I still had the compactness of the 9V battery (vs. 8 AAs) but I had a backup power source for when it ran low. I also wanted my mounting solution to be as compact as possible, without a bunch of wires to have to deal with. I ended up mounting the rom f/x board, a speaker, two batteries and a switch into an electronics enclosure with a neck strap, The solution works great. It hangs around my neck and fits perfectly in the armor chest cavity. The volume is loud and clear and I get zero feedback using a unidirectional headset mic. When I run out of power in the first battery, i just reach my hand inside my chest and flip the switch and it changes to the second battery. I can also leave the switch in the center position to power off the unit. I used rare earth magnets instead of screws to mount the back plate, so it's very easy to open it up and swap out batteries. After a troop where I had to switch to the backup battery, I just promote the backup to the primary and add a new backup. That means every battery gets fully used so I'm not wasting any juice (or money) by discarding partially used batteries. I also have quick access to the rom f/x settings and volume controls should I need to mess with them. -------- Parts list: Rom f/x sound board http://www.romfx.com/ Polycase SL-64P SL Series Slender Profile ABS Electronics Enclosure ----------- Jameco 99996 Speaker, Sq. 14. Knee has already been fixed since I did the shoot. The AP sniper plate is a real challenge to get aligned properly.
  15. Thanks for the input! This shoot was done the morning after I finished my kit way back in July. Since then I've done a couple dozen troops and a lot of fine tuning on the armor.
  16. OK, this has taken way too long, but I have some time off around the holidays so I thought I'd finally submit this. Let me know if there are amy views I'm missing. 17. I think TK Bondservnt was right on the money. The thing you have going for you is that you're thin. The main challenge for suits like the AP (which I have) is weight, not so much height. I'm 6'1" and 185 and the AP fits me great with a bit of shimming at the sides (and yes, you see a bit more black at the joints). You really need a pretty trim build to make those kits work. You shouldn't have to do that if you're only a buck fifty. If you needs any hands-on help with assembly, or want to try on my AP kit before you make a decision, let me know. I'm about 50 min. south of you.
  18. I had some concerns about the fit of some of my pieces on the AP as well. I'm also 6'1" and 180 lbs. Don't make any decisions until you get ALL the pieces put together. I found that once I had attached the ammo boxes, knee plate, and the right boots, everything sort of came together. It's hard to judge individual pieces without seeing the whole kit put together. Here's a pick of my completed suit: ------------

  20. Thanks for posting this. I'm right at that point in my build, and was having problems with the black strap shifting under the weight of the shoulder bells. This will do the trick nicely!
