Amptrooper Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 Hey Y'all! As some of you know I am an amputee. My right leg was amputated. So, I really don't want to go out and buy two boots. My Amptrooper costume is going to leave the prosthetic fully exposed so that he kids in the hospital can see it without a doubt. If anyone has a size 11 left boot I would love for them to send me a PM! Strange I know but, it is what I need to get the job done! Also, does anyone know if Not having a right TK leg will make problems for my application to the 501st? God bless! Quote
tkrestonva[TK] Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 Albin Johnson, the 501st Legion Founder and current LCO, is also an amputee. I don't know if he wears his TK armor over his prosthetic leg or not, but if anyone gives you grief I'd bring that up. Quote
GosHawk[501st] Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 You shouldent have a problem joining the 501st, EIB is a differnt story I believe. If you can't joing the 501st that would be total BS. Wish ya the best of luck Quote

Albin does wear the TK armor over his prosthetic leg, video clips from "The Heart Of an Empire" DVD confirm that. Quote
NAZGÛL Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 Couldnt you buy a pair, and have the chance to do both the one legged look (that I think is cool) and a two legged? Quote
Amptrooper Posted November 6, 2009 Author Report Posted November 6, 2009 Albin does wear the TK armor over his prosthetic leg, video clips from "The Heart Of an Empire" DVD confirm that. I talked Albin and he said his original idea was similar to mine. Cool guy! He shared tips on walking in the suit with the prosthetic. I am showing mine so that the kids can see it and see that you can still do what you want. Limb loss does not equal life loss. Besides, a kid who is going to amputated or just got amputated or has a parent coming home missing a limb, the Amptrooper is going to add a touch of "cool" to it. When that parent comes home they are going to think it is cool that Mommy or Daddy has a leg like the Amptrooper or a cool arm! Or they may think, if the Amptrooper can do it I can do it too! That is why I want my leg to show. Not to say that Albin should. This is what I feel my calling is. He is doing a great thing as it is with the 501st and does not make the focus about his amputation. He shows the same thing that I am trying to show the kids just in a different way. You see him out there doing the things that everyone else is doing in the 501st and you don't know he is an amputee. Then maybe you see him later that day not in costume and you see he is. Just that says a lot to people! God bless! Quote

pandatrooper[TK] Posted November 7, 2009 Report Posted November 7, 2009 I think this is a great way to show kids that anything is possible. I have a cool idea / proposition for you. Why not make a DLT-19 but actually it's a functional crutch / walking stick? Maybe even offer TKboots.com some promotional sticker on the side of the blaster to help promote their product if they can make a one off boot for you. This way, if you ever go to a hospital etc. you can show kids that you can do anything, and still have the TK gear for the job! Quote

There will be times especially in the beginning that I may need a crutch for a short time. I will look in to it! Being a full time Saber Smith I am also trying to figure out how to make an LED Lightsaber with removable blade that is a cane as well but, has the same brightness as the sabers I make. I am thinking along the lines of Dooku or Ventress for the curve to fit the hand better. I am also going to see if TKboots would be interested in working a deal and getting advertising space on my current website www.imperialroyalarms.com and the soon to come Amptrooper website. I bet they would be interested. Advertizing is always good and I am also linked at FX-Sabers.com so that would bring in people from there as well. It's worth a shot anyways! Worst they can say is no. Thanks for the ideas! God bless! Quote

Actually you may want to try and get ahold of Angie Mayhew, Someone made a walking stick that looks like a saber for Peter and he told me that the guy was working on another one for him that lights up.
