Paducah_Trooper Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 Hello, I was wondering if ATA armor is 501st approved and if it is good armor? Any info will be helpfull. thanks Quote
Dargas[501st] Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 Ata is 501st aproved, it is really accurate and at a very reasonable price. I would say go ahead! Quote
TK-2126_MD[TK] Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 Yes, but any armor u choose, with the right work and how u go about building it is/can be 501st ( entry A-ok). Quote
Paducah_Trooper Posted September 13, 2009 Author Report Posted September 13, 2009 it looks a little light and flimsy, do you know if it will hold up to long term trooping? Quote
TK-2126_MD[TK] Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 Granted it would be best not to tag team of play rugby in it, but if u are talking about your regular run of the mill troop, u should be set. I suggest u read up on the different material that armors are made of, and in general just read up on every thing here at the forum, there are awesome threads on every thing. Quote
Dargas[501st] Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 i stil don't own one, i will in december but for what I ve read it seems that it will hold for troops without a problem, just don't throw yourself in the flor and roll over and stuff like that. however if you want an armor that you can do light stunts in, i would recomend an light FX kit (without helmet, hence light) and buy a MRCE helmet. it'll cost more... but you'll feel safer I guess. I still can't recomend ATA more due to acuracy and quality for the price, it'll be hard for you to get a better deal. Quote
dougefresh Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 it looks a little light and flimsy, do you know if it will hold up to long term trooping? It's made from HIPS, so it's not quite as robust as the kits made from ABS, but I wouldn't say it qualifies as flimsy. Generally speaking, the thicker the material, the less detail it carries.., and conversely, the thinner the material, the more detail. I think ATA's a pretty good compromise between strength and detail. Not as sturdy as FX or RT-Mod, and just *slightly* thinner than an AP. Thankfully, any parts that feel a little thin are all in places that are unlikely to take much stress. If you're looking for something you can run around and tackle people in, ATA's probably not a great choice. If you're looking for reasonably durable armor that *might* need occassional maintanence aftyer heavy trooping, I think you'd be just fine with it. Quote
Daetrin[Admin] Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 It's best to say it's not the armor that is approved/not approved, it's the quality of the job in putting it together. One can make an old FX kit sing, and make a disaster of even a GINO suit. Quote
Paducah_Trooper Posted September 13, 2009 Author Report Posted September 13, 2009 From what I have seen from pictures and gathered from others, I think that ATA is the only real choice for Armor. he makes it just as good for way less than everyone else. I'm sold on ATA. Thanks guys. Quote

I'm sold on ATA. Thanks guys. I wouldn't say its the "only real choice" there are many types of armor out there it basically comes down to what type of plastic you want, accuracy....and of course how much your wanting to spend. Also with some kits, you don't need to paint since they come out all glossy any way. ATA does not however so you will have to go an extra step and prime/paint. I had the same thought when I was looking around, I was totally convinced that AP was the "only real choice" then ATA came around and it was in my budget so I got that. Now I'm looking at some others that are made from ABS for a TK build Quote
