The TFU TK Project in Afghan

I am looking forward to modding the cod and butt piece. but I'm waiting on more velcro and elastic pieces (which I'll be needing much more of) I've searched the site for a mod on the legs but came up with nothing. your pics will totally help keith.

Thanks for the support kevin, its been difficult building it here and has taken most of the free time I have but its so worth it.

The hardest part is going to be getting it back to Germany.

Oh I got a few scratches (nothing that cut into the armor) on one of my tight plates.... anything I can use to take that off?

So I on the hunt for a new bucket. My current one has chips in the paint all over it, the rubber brow strip isnt rubber and is part of the helmet. the whole helmet itself is one piece and the mic tips are going to be a task and a half to get off. the bucket isnt even glossy looking.

Is that normal for any type of bucket?

I was thinking of getting a TM bucket and painting it for my TFU commander kit.

any suggestions on a better bucket or would TM be the way to go?

Post your pics like you posted last time and I'll recode em for ya like before. I wouldnt worry so much about scratches. In most peoples opinion, the more natural dings in the armor, the better. That helmet looks like an MRCE and from your description of it such as brow trim being part of the helmet it sounds like an MRCE recast and it looks like it could use some decals in a few places too. A TM helmet would be a big improvment but I would focus more on fitting your armor before moving onto the helmet. Get some pics of the parts you have questions about and also some shots of your progress we are all suckers for pics pics and more pics. We'll have you looking top notch in no time at all.

as for the decals, I'm in need of some new ones... lost the ones that I had. I jsut havent gotten around to getting any.

I got some stuff from triktoys over a month ago..almost a month and a half and still havent recived the stuff. I admit mail does take a long time to get out to me, but I dont have much longer here and dont want to commit to getting something and have it get to this place after I'm gone.

:salute:

Looks like you have made some of the suggested adjustments and it looks like it fits you much better now. As far as the stripe going over the decal location on the back of the helmet, best move there will be to put the decal over the stripe.

I couldn't agree more. Kiel you armor looks a lot better. I think Smitty is right on focusing on your armor before you change out your helmet. Also putting the decal over the stripe is what I would suggest as well. You can get decals for your helmet here: http://members.cox.net/appstronaut/tk4510_decals.html Mike and his family are on vacation until the 26th of this month. He should be able to help you out when he returns from vacation. I think the lenses on your helmet need to be changed out for something a little darker, Smitty can help you out there. ;)

You are also going to need to get some ab buttons for you suit. VaderDave on here can help you out with that.

You guys know best! There is still much to do on the armor itself. I have the ab buttons, just waiting on something to help put them in without destroying the armor. Im ontop of the lenses, ordered a few flat ones a week or so ago but I was thinkin of getting the bubble... not sure what would you guys go with?

I bought a rivot gun so as soon as that gets in the sniper plate is goin on. I have E6000 on the way as well so then the thermal det tube will be put on the back and the thighs arms and shins will be fixed up. then its on to the cod and butt mods.

The stickers will have to wait till I get back to the states and get home since I have little time left where I am and I dont want to mail anything else here.

Im also multi-tasking at the same time I'm in the middle of getting some clone armor to work on... once I'm back in Germany I wil have lots of time on my hands to work on both.

do you know where I can get some snap system stuff and more elastic pieces?

Thanks again smitty for postin the pics... and Thayne for the decal link!

The snap system and elastic might be hard where you are at unless there are local fabric stores around. If that is the case, both should be readily available at that type of store. You can also look here: http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/store/p...ts/3631-00.aspx When installing the snap system you are going to have to make snap plates. Here is a great tutorial on how to make them. http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?show...;hl=snap+plates Hope this helps.

Hey bro,

Here are the pics of my thighs cut in the back to allow my legs to bend more freely. I can actually sit down comfortably in my armor because of the way I have it cut at the seams and the back of the legs. If you need anything over there to help you with this build, let me know and I will send it to you.

Full shot of my armor so you can see how it fits. The cod piece is cut just below the belt so it can flap up. The connection between the butt plate and the cod piece is elastic, which is permenantly affixed to the rear piece and has a snap for the front. Works great if you have to take a leak during trooping...lol

Hey here is a link to my last troop. I am the Sand trooper. Enjoy, bro.

well I have some pics of me sitting down. I put my armor on recently and my shoulder bells and biceps keep coming un-velcroed and it drives me nuts...something to work on with the snap system when I get back to germany.

8290... awesome mod with the legs! I may go that route although I noticed you have alot of black showing on the back of your knees... something id like to avoid but where there is a will there is a way!

i got my boots in and they are the wrong type, they are cheap, and they are too big... sucks.

I was thinking of moving to a canvas belt as well.

I need many more elastic velcro straps. especially for the connection of the cod and butt, whenever I sit down the velcro comes undone. Its becoming more and more clear that snaps are the way to go with most things.

I have a new TK bucket that off to be painted for me by a friend since I cant do it here and I should have it once I go on leave.

Finally my voice box, helmet fans, and the foam cubs to keep my biceps and other trouble spots in place, are finally being shipped to me as of a few days ago.

lots of work to be done. Once I get back to germany I was thinking of weathering the rest of the white on the armor since the blue parts are all scratched up...so it looks odd having scratches on the blue and the white being perfectly clean...ya know?

anyway here are some new pic links.. profile, front back and of sitting... ill get better pics of me sitting later.

(oh these are before I got my white boots so dont mind my tan combat boots!)

So I talked to my GML and he says that im really close to being able to be accepted to the 501st. I got a new bucket which is being painted by a friend, since my current one is a recast. i gotta get the boots and paint them then I should be good! hopefully come sept it will be all said and done and i'll get my number

Had a setback today. i got my voice box set today for my bucket, which required me to take out the aerators and replace them with the speakers.... well as im sure you know my bucket is a recast and when i took the aerators out it took some pieces of the the bucket with it... not very much but its noticable.

I am glad I will have a new "real" bucket waiting for me when i get to RI, and a better voice box setup (the one that Adam suggested!)

but I thought, the hell with it...its a recast and isnt 501st standard anyway so why not try my hand at this.... and well it didnt go as planned it can be fixed. i'm still trying to get the speakers to work since the whole wiring thing confuses me a little and actually mounting it in the bucket is going to be a task and a half.

I also got helmet fans and the hard hat liner which ill have to mount. I should be getting a hot glue gun in the mail soon.

oh I got my E-11 in today...its awesome....but the front sights were a little damaged but I can fix that as well...

these items are the last to come to afghanistan so further progress will have to wait till I get to RI then it will all come together!!

well I started puttin in the fans and the voice system... i had to cut some extra plastic to cover the holes made by the aerators... and this bucket is purely experimental now since its not 501st quality but it will help me along with my buildin and modding skills.

  • 4 months later...

ok so its been a long time since I posted anything here. Life has been pretty busy, what with comin back to germany and goin on leave to the states. I hooked up with some friends in the New England garrison and I was informed that my TK needed ALOT more work than I thought... not to mention that I have bad luck with getting recast helmets. So I fixed up my clone for a troop and it went awesomely. I got my number, for the clone...and hopefully my Vader will be approved soon as well. But the TK is goin to be a project that will continue here in germany as soon as it gets shipped here from the states.
