timecyspace Posted October 21, 2019 Author Report Posted October 21, 2019 I wanna start painting before I put the whole thing together. Would it be possible to print out a tube stripe stencil? Also I can't seem to find a post about the ata TD, I wanna make sure I cut it to the same length. Do y'all know one? Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk It should be 7 1/2 inch. I think Quote
timecyspace Posted October 21, 2019 Author Report Posted October 21, 2019 Problem: I was following the indents and when i checked photos i freaked out. My edges are curved instead of flat. Is there any way i can save this?Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk Quote

Until then you can but the stencil on Trooperbay.com. Here's my old ATA build, about half way down has specs on the TD if you're interested. Quote

timecyspace Posted November 2, 2019 Author Report Posted November 2, 2019 Hey y'all hope you all had a happy halloween! My stencils came in the mail this week so I can start painting my helmet. One thing I noticed while holding my helmet together is this indented line from the molding on the brow. Do I still need to trim the brow then? I'll also be painting the hovi mics and vocoder tonight.Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted November 2, 2019 Report Posted November 2, 2019 Here's a great ATA helmet build thread to reference Quote
timecyspace Posted November 2, 2019 Author Report Posted November 2, 2019 It looks like I cut it too high, the trap looks too small. I might have to get a new helmet :/ Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted November 2, 2019 Report Posted November 2, 2019 It does look to be angling upwards at the front, I would suggest try gluing a strip of plastic behind, just a little narrower than your brow trim, the trim will cover the cut line and won't be seen, could be an easy fix so don't panic just yet Quote
timecyspace Posted July 4 Author Report Posted July 4 Hi Everyone! After COVID, life, and moving across states i'm finally at a point to continue working on my armor. I'm currently finishing where i left off trimming, starting with the forearms and up to the shoulder bells. Right off the back i noticed there's a lack of mold lines for trimming the sides where the cover strips will go. Is there a good rule of thumb for how much i can trim? I plan on starting with cutting at 5/16 an inch since the cover strips will be 5/8 and taking photos for ya'll. Here's what i have so far, trimmed all the way to the return edges since i'm shooting for centurion. Quote

We have been spoilt with ATA and raised ridge areas, @ 15 mm between the ridges is standard, so from each ridge you would measure @7-8mm per side. You can see in my photo below how much of the ridges are left. You can also trim all of the return edges front and back if you wish, I left some as I have skinny arms. You want to make sure you can get your hand through the front of the forearms Cover strips are generally 15mm on forearms and biceps Front of the forearms for L3 Centurion, had to add some foam so they could sit central to the arm. timecyspace Posted 3 hours ago Author Report Posted 3 hours ago Thank you gmrhodes13 for the measurements and guides! I ended up cutting to 1/2 an inch for the sides. Here’s how they look, you can see me lining my 15mm cover strip up in the last photo. There’s still some of that side edge sticking out. Would that be acceptable or do I need to trim some more so my strip covers it? I can get my wrist inside comfortably as is, it’s snug at the ends towards my bicep. Quote
timecyspace Posted 2 hours ago Author Report Posted 2 hours ago After looking at ukswrath’s build I think I’m gonna cut the sides down to 7.5mm. I should still have plenty of room for my wrist. Quote
