bartonajb
I recently received my RS sandtrooper kit a couple of weeks ago. It didn't take me long to realize that I don't have the heart to weather up that beautiful shiny white armor. Plus TKs are just way too cool. I wasn't going to do a build thread at first however I realized two things. First is that I'm too anal retentive perfectionist and will need input from others before I drive myself nuts over imperfections. Second, after posting a question earlier about my helmet. I realized how helpful and nice everyone here is. I am aiming for centurion from the start so keep that in mind. I have started on the biceps and left forearm. A couple of things I have noticed. I saw in some instructional videos clipping the edges of the cover strips however didn't notice it most of the accepted centurion builds. Did I overdo those? Should I remove them or is it fine? Should I let that gap on the edge of the bicep go? Another cover strip view Left forearm. What do you think about that slightly misaligned edge? Was planning on progressing to right forearm and then legs tomorrow however don't want to continue with the same errors if something should be fixed. Thanks everyone. Glad to be here. bartonajb
oops. I just realized I posted this in the wrong spot and not in the subforum. Apologies.

Did I overdo those? Should I remove them or is it fine? You should be fine there.. Should I let that gap on the edge of the bicep go? You can actually remove that entire section protruding from the top. It will get snagged on your undersuit, and no-one sees it anyway. On the top of the forearm, you can bend that section down (red arrow). If it doesn't affect the fit too much, you can also remove some of that return edge (blue). Be sure to sand all ragged areas like that until they are realllllly smooth. Keep up the great work!
bartonajb
Thanks for the tips. Just applied your suggestions. While I'm at it here could I grab another suggestion? How do you recommend trimming this right forearm piece? It's got an odd profile and I don't want to over cut it.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Usually with forearm pieces you'll see a definite "line" on the inside of where the pull was done, but unfortunately from this angle I'm unable to see where it is. http:// Possibly along one of these two lines? See what Joseph will be able to confirm On a few of the pieces I agree with @justjoseph63, trim the excess return edges off. One more thing that I'm not sure about is the protruding part on your bicep piece. What I would probably suggest is to trim that back a little to right at the cover strip: http:// Again, Joseph please let me know if this is supposed to be the way for RS? Looking good on your builds! Keep it up! Edited October 4, 2017 by Btabc
justjoseph63[Staff]
Depending on your size, you can take quite a bit of that off of the forearms, Bryce. Having a return edge on top is not necessary, but some people like to keep a bit there... makes it look a bit "beefier". Having an excess of return edge can also lead to "armor bite", where it digs into your skin when you bend your arm. Below is a pic of a recent Centurion approved RS kit to give you an example of how much you can take off:

bartonajb
Hi everyone. My progress has been slow secondary to life but I have made progress on torso trimming. I have left a 1/8 return on everything except the bracket returns at 3/8. One thing I noticed on the kidney notches I was hoping to get some advice. It’s an RS kit and the notches are already present. Problem is they don’t measure 22x22 nor do they line up with the butt edge as you can see here. The left is close to right size but the right is only 15 mm deep. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171214/72266414402829ee015c692c7dfaced4.jpg[/Soooo.... if I’m trying to stick to centurion standards I have to cut these deeper and then cut the butt back on both edges thus losing my return edge. Or I just leave it as is and hope for the best?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Gwithian
I’ve just completed my RS armour and achieved Centurion this week. I didn’t alter my kidney notches, left them as RS made them. I had similar problems to you longing the kidney and butt pieces up, however when strapped together it actually fitted much better then when placed on the benchMake sure the ridge in the back of the kidney and butt line upThis is how the butt / kidney notch looked originally .... please note the kidney and ab are not longed up correctly And now after being strappedHope this helpsHave a look at some RS build threads on here, they should help ... this is my build thread... https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/40087-stephens-rs-anh-stunt-build-wip-for-small-people/Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Gwithian
Oh and aiming for Centurion from the off is definitely the right thing to do Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
bartonajb
Thanks so much for the feedback and those before and after pictures. That helps a lot! I was hoping it was the case that when the pieces were strapped and actually on me that the butt would kick out more and line up. I really didnt want to modify the way the gaps were in the armor since if it was in the RS suit then I wanted it in mine. Congratulations on your Centurion! Ill take a look over your thread. I will put some pictures up next week when I get it strapped out. I put all the brackets on in the last 48 hours but I have to wait until my mother visits for Christmas next week to sew my loops Figure Im not about to learn to use a sewing machine at this point in my life.

bartonajb
I have been making some good progress recently. I tend to get things done in little bits here and there so daily updates would not make interesting reading. I got my helmet done a while ago and was posting pics of that on a different thread.I have it mounted on the wall in my game room currently.I attached the bicep straps to the shoulder bells.Made the bicep clips from a 1x4 inch piece of cover strip sheet and molded with the heat gun.I think the left forearm came out well and no return on wrist I didn’t like the way my right forearm came out so I just pulled off a cover strip and am going to trim more off to reduce its circumference. This RS right one is tougher because it really flares out wide at the elbow.I don’t want to add the strapping to the arms any further until I have the torso all fitted. I have more pics and updates to add in the morning. Would love any feedback if you guys see anything in need of correcting or tweaking.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Gwithian
I had difficulty with my RS right forearm, the inner piece was too long And also like you, the glaring out of the elbow, I did trim it back a bit, but don’t have a pic, will take one later for you. Also from memory this was a really difficult part to glue together, I fitted an internal cover strip on the front first, then it needed to be held in place with tape to get the back to line up, then glued an inner cover strip at the rear ...... and like you, it was taken apart because it wasn’t quite right..... thank goodness for E6000 glue Your build is looking good, how is you kid held on the wall? I couldn’t see a bracket? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
bartonajb
Thanks for the advice on that forearm. I think the reason it came out to wide is that I need to cut back that deep cup on the proximal inner arm at the elbow more. That narrows down the opening so much that the wrist side ends up being huge. I made a mount for the lid from a 4$ piece of 1 inch steel flat bar from Lowe’s. Just bent the angles on my vice after measuring the height and depth of the helmet.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Gwithian
Those brackets are amazing I did take a photo of my right forearm, I did trim the curved bit, hopefully these will helpIt’s difficult to see the original curve on the inner piece Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
