Does duck cloth qualify as canvas material????

i would like to make a canvas belt, i was told that duck cloth is the same thing....is it????? anyone know????? thanks!!!!

My wife, the seamstress of the house, who also used to work in a fabric store says "yes, they are the same thing, both are 100% cotton, and have the same warp and weft weave."
