BOOKOF Posted November 23, 2015 Report Posted November 23, 2015 Hi, I'm planning on buying the Anovos set once it goes on sale next year but I'm curious to see if it'll come out of the box ready to wear. Probably not, in which case I'd like to ask you guys about who I can go to to get help fitting and trimming the set. I would hate to get my armor and not be able to get it fitted because I don't have the skills, tools, or the time (as a busy college student) to learn from scratch at this crazy busy time of my life. My best choice is to go to others for help. Please let me know if this is against the rules in any way and I apologize if so. I'm brand new around here and just want to be apart of the garrison! Dark CMF[Staff] Posted November 23, 2015 Report Posted November 23, 2015 Which ANOVOS Kit are you planning to get, exactly? Their ANH TK has been on sale, and will be shipping very soon for the preorders.

The FO TK kits are expected to be available next year.

Generally speaking, they have offered their costumes for sale with the option of assembled, or kit form. As for help, where do you live? We can help connect you with your local Garrison, and of course, we offer a lot of help here. Kind of our thing. there isn't anything against the rules when it comes to buying a kit that is prebuilt, but be aware that Legion approval is based on how your armor fits you specifically. Many pre-built kits require a bit of re-strapping/fitting in order to achieve Legion approval, so be aware of that fact up front as well. Let us know what help,we can provide, and we'll get you on the appropriate path. Quote
Dark CMF[Staff] Posted November 23, 2015 Report Posted November 23, 2015 Of course, I just realized you posted this in the TFA section. They are expected to offer the kit fully assembled, but at this time, we don't know for sure what they will include in the box when it ships. There may be other items like boots and a blaster that you'll need/want to purchase in order to look even better than it would otherwise. Quote
camprandall Posted November 23, 2015 Report Posted November 23, 2015 Hello Eli! It's also worth noting that the FO TFA trooper is a lot of work. In addition to trimming, there is a lot of seam hiding and bondo work and modifications needed and the gaskets are quite difficult as well. It might be a good idea to familiarize yourself with the various build threads that are posted here to get a feel of what you'll be looking at both in terms of cost and time. Then you can more easily assess what kind of help you need and either look for local "armor parties" in your garrison or even host them yourself. It's a good way to get to know people and also get some assistance with your build. Good luck! 2 Quote
PiettLives[TK] Posted November 23, 2015 Report Posted November 23, 2015 (edited) I agree with Clint and Tim. If you're interested in the FO TK then read through ukswrath's build thread: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/31877-ukswraths-tfa-build-thread-tk-10116/ to see what you're in for as far as building it yourself. With the current price tag unbuilt, I'm not sure anyone would want to pay them to build it as well. You could probably buy a car or motorcycle for that price!!! BOOKOF Posted November 24, 2015 Author Report Posted November 24, 2015 (edited) Thanks for the tips, fellas. Like you said, I'm planning on buying the FO set. I'm assuming the fully assembled kit would be better for my needs, but please let me know if that's not the case. I have no problem buying the boots, blaster, holster and whatever else I may need. I just hope I can get it completely assembled ASAP.Good to know that there will still be some work involved. I live in San Diego and I've already introduced myself over at the Imperial Sand Garrison. Looks like some armor parties are in my future! What could be super helpful is if some of the 501st's more crafty members puts together a guide for those who are buying the FO Anovos kits and instructs us how to finish up the armor. I doubt I'm the only one getting that set once it's available. Edited November 24, 2015 by BOOKOF Quote
TK4205 Posted November 26, 2015 Report Posted November 26, 2015 I'll build it if you ship it to me. PM if you're interested. Quote
BOOKOF Posted November 28, 2015 Author Report Posted November 28, 2015 be aware that Legion approval is based on how your armor fits you specifically. Many pre-built kits require a bit of re-strapping/fitting in order to achieve Legion approval, so be aware of that fact up front as well. TK4025 mentioned to me that it will either fit me or it won't. I can take a guess as to why that would be, but is that entirely true? I'm not worried, but that would definitely make it easier to hire someone to build it for me, if it came to that. Quote
Dark CMF[Staff] Posted November 28, 2015 Report Posted November 28, 2015 Yes, it is absolutely true, only because their kit will likely be assembled in a "one size fits all" manner, but we as humans aren't one size fits all. Anytime you have someone else build armor for you, there is a risk that the fit won't be quite right - even with measurements being provided. Most builders will tell you this up front. As I mentioned, it is typically just a matter of re-strapping/fitting to get it to fit, unless you are either substantially thicker or thinner than the average person in which case parts in the arms, legs, and/or abdomen may need to be shimmed in order to fit properly. That can be difficult to get right without test fitting it in person for many builders. 1 Quote
camprandall Posted November 28, 2015 Report Posted November 28, 2015 I second what Tim is saying. It's not even just simply about a handful of measurements. Heck, for me and the TFA armor my right arm is much tougher to get into the gasket than the left because my right bicep/shoulder is a touch bigger than my left. I don't think there are a lot of areas with this kit that make a huge difference, but the gaskets are definitely one of them and you'll want to know that they're tailored to you pretty accurately so that you're comfortable and can move. 1 Quote
BOOKOF Posted November 29, 2015 Author Report Posted November 29, 2015 Thanks for the quick replies! I think my final question is what exactly does a fully assembled kit entail? That doesn't mean that it's "built"? Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk Quote
