WhiteHat Posted July 21, 2015 Report Posted July 21, 2015 (edited) I just placed my order for a set of NE Armor from Trooper Gear! Eagerly awaiting its arrival, and I'm already almost totally stocked up on supplies. I'll be posting pics once the box arrives, as I'm certain I'll need some assistance along the way. Thanks in advance! *If this should be in a different forum/thread, please let me know. Edited July 21, 2015 by WhiteHat Quote
Kredal[TK] Posted July 21, 2015 Report Posted July 21, 2015 This is the perfect forum for this! I think you'll like the NE kit! Troopergear makes great stuff! 1 Quote
Airborne Trooper[501st] Posted July 21, 2015 Report Posted July 21, 2015 You're in the right place! You think you have all the supplies but there will be runs to the store for odds and ends. Congrats on joining the dark side and while you wait for your BBB, read some build threads like your life depends on it. If you haven't already, sign up for your local garrison's forums. Florida has a large, very active garrison so you'll be in good hands. 1 Quote

I have no doubt I'll be making many runs to the hardware store as I go, especially as this is my first build. So far my list of supplies is: Dremel w/ accessories E-6000 glue 20 rare earth magnets Straight and curved Lexan scissors various clamps Dritz Heavy Duty Snap fasteners w/extra snaps plus the normal assortment of tools you'll find in most garages If there is anything you know I'll need I'd definitely appreciate it Quote
Kredal[TK] Posted July 22, 2015 Report Posted July 22, 2015 - Small files for teeth and eyes - hole punch set for belt and holster - drill bits from 1/8 to 3/8" for various things (the 3/8" one is used to countersink by hand snap attachment points) - model paint brushes, humbrol or testors paints of the right colors, mineral spirits and testors paint thinner - soldering iron for punching holes in elastic straps - heat gun for reshaping ABS, melting ends of elastic straps (I have a soldering rework station that has been amazingly useful for this) 1 Quote

Airborne Trooper[501st] Posted July 23, 2015 Report Posted July 23, 2015 Check out UKWraith's build thread. There are things listed for the belt and kidney/ab section that is a very reasonable price. If you haven't got the set tool for the snaps, get that as well. The little Dritz pliers are garbage. 1 Quote

Dritz snaps are garbage period, I'd recommend going with Tandy or Fasnap, 50-100 pack especially if you plan on build any more armor. Looking forward to your build Sam. 1 Quote

Ryth_[501st] Posted August 20, 2015 Report Posted August 20, 2015 Silver/nickle split rivets (one brass split rivet) and cap rivets. Get those. Quote
WhiteHat Posted August 20, 2015 Author Report Posted August 20, 2015 I'm starting with the helmet this weekend, definitely taking it slow. Thankfully the helmet is a good size, even my massive noggin wont have any trouble fitting Quote
ukswrath[Staff] Posted August 20, 2015 Report Posted August 20, 2015 Awesome, a shiny new kit waiting to be put together. 1 Quote
WhiteHat Posted August 25, 2015 Author Report Posted August 25, 2015 Helmet progress is moving forward nicely, i'll have more pics soon. I'm starting on the arms next, wanted to get the bodysuit soon as well. Any recommendations on where to get a high-quality bodysuit would be greatly appreciated. I've seen a bunch on eBay and Amazon, but not really sure which direction to go. Definitely want a high-quality one that will keep me cool (relatively) in the FL sun. Don't mind paying a bit more for a good one if it's worth it. Any ideas? Thanks! Quote
WhiteHat Posted August 25, 2015 Author Report Posted August 25, 2015 The first helmet pieces are together! It looks like it shifted ever so slightly while drying still, turned out pretty well Quote
Mutter Posted August 26, 2015 Report Posted August 26, 2015 This is what I went with: http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/bcg-mens-solid-compression-tight?repChildCatid=1334732 http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/bcg-mens-compression-long-sleeve-crew-neck-shirt?repChildCatid=1081029 Both are very comfortable and there's no external colors or markings. Not sure how it will be in the Florida summer but it was fine in the NY summers. Quote
WhiteHat Posted September 26, 2015 Author Report Posted September 26, 2015 (edited) I've made a bit of progress! Aside from some painting the helmet is done. Forearms are together as well, and biceps are nearly there. Edited September 26, 2015 by WhiteHat Quote
