A little help repainting armor

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

A few years back I obtained a set of FX Stormtrooper armor from a friend and the armor itself had gotten terribly yellowed, and scratched. Shortly after it was repainted using krylon fusion (not by me), and well I'll let the pictures I'll be uploading once my pc stops crapping out on me speak for themselves...

Anyway, I've made it my personal mission to restore this old kit and make something of it, but the most glaring issue is stripping the paint and repainting it. I'm rather new to painting, so any assistance on the best way to go at this or if all is lost the best way to turn it into a TD would be appreciad.

other issues include a crack in the left thigh, a crotch plate that was cut too low for my tastes (need a replacement) no ab buttons since I threw out the original FX set, and the shoulder straps being glued to the back plate, which I need to separate.

I bought an ATA Helmet kit to replace the FC bucket, and a replacement thermal det kit as well so this is going to be a fun ride I think.

There are some "how to" s here to remove a bad paint job, like sanding, ovencleaner, etc.

Cracking is fixed with an old t-shirt and super gue, To smooth the crack out some ABS paste is needed.

The you need some cans of plastic primer, and several cans of high quaity.

And as you said, you need replacement parts, like a helmet.

A new, full armor kit will be cheaper

oven cleaner? to strip paint? details please?

only replacement parts I really need are a new crotch plate and buttons, and eventually I want to get a more accurate kit, but I've had this set kicking for 6 years now and I just can't forgive myself if i don't do anything with it.

Sandtrooper is always an option through :P

How to remove a bad paint job

The pic are gone, but you still "get the picutre" :)

Ahhhh awesome, That'll save me a ton of time and sanding. Then I just have to fix the crack, the deeper scratches and the rest of my little issues,

Regrettably, I was on the waiting list for an ATA kit last year, but I had to email him and settle for just the helmet duw to my cars breaks going out, eating whatever I had saved up, right on the month my order was up, followed by having to switch from a full time to part time job (Do'h!) I still feel like a jerk for having to cancel on him, but it adds to the motivation to do something with this kit before getting another.
