So after trooping a couple times in armor, I've realized very quick that basic things like stairs become quite a problem when it comes to flexing your knees... some of the other shorter guys like me (I'm around 5-8) have said they trimmed the back of their thighs at the knee into a moon-type shape to allow better movement at that point, but I haven't been able to see any of those guys in armor to see for myself... I've done thread searches and can't immediately find what I'm looking for...

 

Just want to see some photos so I don't butcher anything when I go to cut... it's going to happen, I just need some reference... LOL

I saw a thread on this very topic earlier. But I don't find it.

It was said in the thread that it is all right to trim out an area behind the knee joints. It was also said that this was done in the movies. If you look at the top photo of the stunt trooper in the 501st.com CRL you see an area cut out.

I totally see the problem. I felt the pincing as I walked some stairs yesterday. But I don't think it looks too nice. So I'm not sure what I want to do. Beauty with pain, or some armor hacking. ;)

That photo is a bit hard to get the depths of it and get the front from the back and where the bubble wrap is, but stare at it long enough, it will start to make sense!

 

On the thigh, you do basically the same thing as you see here. Some people make it a wide U shape, some people more boxy. It's all down to your preference. It really helps with movement though.
