What is the usual thickness of a helmet kit? I know I've seen a few different thicknesses of kits listed on evilbay, but I wanted to know what is considered the "norm", for a good kit? Any help greatly appreciated.

Do you mean like gauge wise? .080 is the usual thickness I believe. I think that translates to 2mm. Of course that is before it is cooked and stretched over the mold.

That sounds about right.

I know a few of the makers have done runs with thiner material to get sharper pulls but at the expense of durability.

Yea, I was talking guage thickness. I wanted to know what was the normal pull of a helmet kit, and a thickness for a "trooping" bucket. Thanks for the info!

2mm ABS seems to be the favoured guage for trooping helmets. I have made them from 1mm and 1.5mm ABS, both are very lightweight and flexible. Try that with Styrene or HIPS and it's a different story. It's too brittle and will likely crack during the rigours of trooping, but can be quite good for display though. My 2mm ABS helmets are rock solid ;)
