I know I've seen a few different thicknesses of kits listed on evilbay, but I wanted to know what is considered the "norm", for a good kit? Any help greatly appreciated. TK-7980 Posted August 4, 2011 Report Posted August 4, 2011 Do you mean like gauge wise? .080 is the usual thickness I believe. I think that translates to 2mm. Of course that is before it is cooked and stretched over the mold. Quote

I know a few of the makers have done runs with thiner material to get sharper pulls but at the expense of durability. Quote

troopermaster Posted August 4, 2011 Report Posted August 4, 2011 2mm ABS seems to be the favoured guage for trooping helmets. I have made them from 1mm and 1.5mm ABS, both are very lightweight and flexible. Try that with Styrene or HIPS and it's a different story. It's too brittle and will likely crack during the rigours of trooping, but can be quite good for display though. My 2mm ABS helmets are rock solid Quote
