Trooper Wanna Be Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 Hello all, I'm sorry if I posted in the wrong forum, new guy here, but I am struggling to find the conversion between gauges and millimeters in high impact polystrene. If anyone knows can you help clear this up for me? Quote
Trooper Wanna Be Posted July 12, 2011 Author Report Posted July 12, 2011 have you tried google ? I did but all I could find was the conversion for sheet metal, do you suppose that is the same? Quote
stormtrooperguy[501st] Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 the gauge is thousandths of an inch. Ā so, for example, 0.125 plastic = 1/8th inch. Quote
Trooper Wanna Be Posted July 12, 2011 Author Report Posted July 12, 2011 Well after the day of searching I found a forum that says that there is no direct conversion anymore for HIPs thicker than film. I know that .08 gauge is good for HIPs, isn't it? What would be a good thickness in millimeters for forming? Quote
Trooper Wanna Be Posted July 12, 2011 Author Report Posted July 12, 2011 Thank you stormtrooperguy Google has been quite useless, but still what thickness in millimeters are most quality armors formed in? Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 I think .080 gauge is roughly 2 mm. Quote
sith_241 Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 1-2mm is generally good for vac forming. Quote
