theholyfilament Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 Ok, AP helmet came in today. Complete and looks fantastic. Problem...I have somewhat of a "melon head" and have to turn helmet sideways to even get it close to on. My 12 old daughter cant even get helmet on! I have to shave down the inner screws for ears because I cannot even get helmet on all the way. They jab into the side of my head. Is this normal? Has anyone ever had this experience? Mind you, I don't have a Charlie Brown sized gourd. Hat size is 7 and 5/8. Any info??? Quote
Sonnenschein Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 yes, this is normal. You have to "screw on" a TK helmet. just shorten the screws. Quote
SolderMaster Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 Yep, that's normal. The only helmet that I have tried on, (I've tried ATA, RT, AP, and MRCE) that I didn't have to "screw on", was the MRCE. Just shorten the screws and you should be good. Quote
theholyfilament Posted March 22, 2011 Author Report Posted March 22, 2011 Phew. Thanks. I just thought I'd be able to pull it over my head. It goes on sideways, but when i turn it the screws stab my head. I bought extra padding and a helmet liner. It doesn't look like they'll be any room after I put my head in....let alone a fan. Quote
pandatrooper[TK] Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 Can you use shorter ear bolts? Quote
theholyfilament Posted March 22, 2011 Author Report Posted March 22, 2011 The ends of the bolts are going to have to be trimmed about a quarter of an inch on each side. Well, I think. Just can't even get it in all the way. As soon as I got the helmet I just wanted to put it on. It came completed for me. Armor is from same person and build (on m end) is still in progress. Anyway, when I looked at the bottom of the lid I knew I wasn't going to be able to fit my head in. Daughter couldn't get it on her head. I am going to see if trimming the screws tomorrow will help. Just wanted to know if this as normal. Lid looks amazing, just can't get it on my planet head yet. Haha. Quote

theholyfilament Posted March 22, 2011 Author Report Posted March 22, 2011 Yeah, I kind of figured. Haha. Not home at moment. Wont be able to even attempt trimming bolts until tomorrow. Will post pics if trimming doesn't help! Just funny because I thought my head was going to be swimming inside and would need all this paddng. Quote
TK bondservnt[501st] Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 I have found that if you cut off about 1/4" from the faceplate bottom you can have a little more room. the whole twist function of the helmet was the major reason why I opted for the AP kit in 2009. I would not cut the cap n back undercut... it's very noticable, but taking off some of the faceplate makes it a lot easier to put on, and off. Quote
theholyfilament Posted March 22, 2011 Author Report Posted March 22, 2011 I'm going to try to shave down the bolts later today. I think the 1/4 on each should do it...I hope. If not, I may have to give that a whirl. The undertrim will cover it anyway. Just frustrating because I just want to try it on!!! Thanks. Quote
