  1. I have a question. I've moved from research to planning, as I have made my decision as to an armor set. so now I move to assembly planning. here's my question: I don't want to have straps going from my bicep plates to my forearm plates, and same from my codpiece to my thighs to my calves. so I was planning on re-enforcing those sections of the inside of my bodysuit, and sewing snaps to the body suit, I'm looking for opinions on if this is a good idea. I was thinking of sewing the snaps to a piece of canvas, or some other stronger material, then sewing that to the inside of the body suit. another option for the legs at least was to do a hockey sock garder belt (that's for hockey socks) under the body armor, and cut small slits in the bodyarmor at points that would snap into the armor. Thoughts?
  2. I just didn't want to sound too cconfident I'm pretty sure I'll be g2g
  3. yes, sorry, I knew that. I'm going to try to go right for EIB when I apply. I know it's unlikely, but a guy's gotta have goals right?
  4. Question, I have a Hasbro blaster that I'm modding with a resin detail kit I got from doopydoos.com(http://www.doopydoos.com/stormtrooper-e-11-hasbro-blaster-conversion-skin-kit-207-p.asp). If I add that resin componant kit, with the t-rails from Stompy, and if it's painted correctly, would that qualify for EIB?
  5. MAIN THING YOU NEED!!! Patience....patience....patience... as a seasoned model builder who's spent $100s of dollars on a single kit before, I can tell you that the first thing to do is take a deep breath, calm down, and take your time. if you rush it, you'll make mistakes. just remember to take your time, and you'll do great!!! and I agree PICS. mainly cuz I've got a set ordered, and I wanna see how it all looks
  6. I'm a former M1A1 Tank gunner / Commander. spent 10 years in the Army. I can't watch any military flick, or a flick with a military uniform in it without picking out flaws. 'Courage Under Fire' especially, since the shots inside the M1 turrets were SOOOO inaccurate.
  7. I totally agree, I think that anyone that's interested in doing this should be included, regardless of their armor, heck, I almost bought FX armor, and probably would have been happy with it, but after researching and looking around I saw what I can achieve with some time, and effort. I'm just glad you guys have this site. You all have really put me on the right track, and I bet that others feel the same way. I just hope that some day pics of my armor inspire others to do a better job with theirs just like you have inspired me to do better with mine.
  8. Anyone that has recieved a helmet from ATA, any thoughts on how flexable, or ridgid it is?
  9. as some wise folks around here have said... research, research, research.... poor fella....
  10. Hi guys, As I sit here, calmly waiting for my armor components, and other bits to arive, I've been constantly reading all the build threads, and gathering construction ideas, I thought of another question. Anyone who has armor cast from HIPS, I was wondering how flexable it is. and also, do you guys ever sit down with your armor on? I know it's not exactly the most comfortable thing to be wearing, and it seems to me that the butt plate would cut into your thighs in the back. Also I'd be worried about it breaking. Just wondering. Not that I'm planning on napping in my armor, but was wondering if you guys pretty much stand all the time while in costume. Also, side note: Thank you again for everyone who's answered all my questions, you guys have already saved me hundreds of dollars in mistake purchases, and since I'm on a budget, I'm only going to get one shot at getting this right. So, thank you all very much for you guidance, I look forward to being a full fledged 501st member, and getting out there in the community to do some good in the Emperor's name
  11. Thanks, I actually have an order in with someone on the boards, good price, very good quality from what I've seen, and known around the boards. I feel alot more secure with him than any e-bayer.
  12. What are you using to attach the snaps to the armor plates?
  13. See, all this advice has paid off, you guy's have saved me about $600 worth of headaches, and misery. I've already been in contact with some people here on the boards, better quality, better prices, and they come better regarded by you guys, that's why research is good!
  14. I'm getting on the waiting list for an entire set. looks awesome from here!!
  15. No, I know, but one thing I've learned on any project is patience...Mini's and modeling teach that in spades, and I've been in contact with some people on the boards for the armor. much better quality.
  16. I've won painting competitions for my minis, I'm an avid model painter, so detail's a non-issue. I'm probably going to over-do it on taking my time. lol
  17. I'm not that big of a guy, I'm a little tall (6'1) but only 190 lbs, so I'm about average size. I'm also an avid model and mini builder / painter, so I'm as interested in the building as I am in the wearing. I'm not concerned with the helmet, as I'll be buying a custom fiberglass build a guy is selling on ebay that's absolutely beautiful, so as long as the armor plates look good, I'll be happy. I have my gloves, body suit, and boots on order. I just won a hasbro / kenner e-11 on ebay, and I'm getting the resin conversion kit to go with it. they'll be here soon. so, I think I'm on my way, just need to finalize the armor purchase, and I'll have most of that I need!!! Thank you again for all the input, everyone's been very helpful.
  18. Thanks again Joe, BTW, I'm sorry for my bad manners, My name is Eric, I'm in Buffalo NY, and I'm currently in the research phase of things. I apprecaite all the good information, and assistance I've been getting from everyone here, and locally. I'm looking forward to becoming a full 501st member, and geting my "TK" designation!!
  19. Thank you, seemed too good to be true. I thought I mis-spoke, but I checked. the listing states : "501st approved! Most of the 501st wear FX armour!"
  20. Hello all, I'm new, and looking at amassing what I need for my TK uniform. I'm looking at e-bay listings by a seller named "stormtrooper_shop_uk" and I'm wondering if anyone has had dealings with him. He sells FX armor he states is 501st approved, but his kits seem to be alot cheaper than others I've seen. Seems too good to be true, and a local garrison member that's helping me said I should ask around here, since he has no knowledge of this seller. Any assistance you can offer is greatly appreciated.
