  1. You don't have to have a costume to sign up for garrison forums.  It would be good to introduce yourself to your perspective garrison, and for most events there is always a need for handlers and people to assist in some way during events.  It's a good way to get involved with the 501st before you can actually join with a completed costume. I'm not a 501st member as of yet, but I am headed to a garrison armor party on the 10th.

I agree. The best source of information is to get in contact directly with a 501st member from a local/nearest garrison and introduce yourself. I personally spoke to a potential new garrison member/individual interested in Stormtrooper armor a couple days ago. We exchanged a couple emails at first then spoke on the phone for a while a few days later. We plan on meeting each other sometime in the next few weeks and he'll be able to examine my armors and get a better first hand understanding of the whole process.

  2. Fear will keep the local systems in line.

personally I have been asked at several events by law enforcement if my prop is real, and since I own and use a sound system, they are usually quite surprised

by my response when I tell them over the speaker that my prop is a solid block of resin, or rubber, with no moving parts.

In every single event where blasters have been present, the event marked the item with a zip tie.

I personally don't agree that free people should bow to public pressure from terrorist groups.  If we ban blasters in the 501st legion, then we are

    showing FEAR.

Orange Tips , tags, flags and zip ties have worked for over 15 years, and they are mandated in some states.

devaluing the methods used in the past, as if they were not good enough simply shows a loss of freedom.

We'd have to change/redesign our garrison emblem if the 501st were to ban blaster props. Our emblem HAS a blaster in it. We're not the only ones.

    But I agree . . . .  :deadhorse:  :deadhorse:  :56pullhair:

  3. Is there a reason why the FO trooper armor will be so much more expensive? I know there's the rubber gaskets and everything, but isn't the rest plastic like the OT troopers?

It is just plastic. I don't see it as being much more complicated to vacuum form the pieces. There are a bunch of resin greeblie pieces but those are easy to replicate.

They should offer an option to purchase without the gaskets. Offering a full kit with the option of helmet (fiberglass or injection molded).

A much more complex costume to produce and build because of the design,  finishing will require 10 times more work to complete than a OT trooper, example the helmet can't be vacuumformed and because of no visible joining seams on legs/arms the whole suit will require lots of bondo/painting.

But all the bondo & seamless work is done by the builder. Why would that be a mark up on the producers side?

  4. I'd suggest wearing a balaclava if you have long hair. Other than keeping your hair out of the way of fan blades it can also protect you from an exploding battery. Our Darth Vader had a close call this past weekend at a Force Awakens appearance when his battery pack for his fans exploded. Luckily he wasn't burned but he was wearing a balaclava.

  5. Your building skills can also determine what is right for you. Putting together a First Order Stormtrooper is a whole lot more work compared to an Original trilogy Stormtrooper. The FO TK will need the use of bondo or other filling materials plus painting the entire suit. Building one is very similar to a clone trooper build. I know there were quite a few people who were quick to order and acquire a FO TK only to be way in over their heads with the build. Plus it didn't help that the early builds didn't have much documentation or instructions.
