I’m right handed and I went with the ANH STUNT because i didn’t know any better. I was so happy with my decision afterwards. After building it, i decided to take it a bit further by carrying my E-11 on my left hand to be screen accurate & trained myself to be left handed while in character... it’s fun !!! Of course in the beginning I would carry it from time to time on my right, but now it’s rare I do. Having a holster on either side just means you decided what type of trooper you want to build & Only YOU can decide.
Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkI'm not sure if they make E11 holsters for righties. May have to modify one.

Hi, everyone:
I'm Peter Telep, a UCF English professor who created and is teaching a Star Wars class right now! Steve Warmath and a collection of his great friends from the Makaze Squad, Florida Garrison trooped at my class this past Wednesday, and all 60 of my students had an incredible time!
Anyway, I've begun my journey researching white armor (thinking I'd like to be a Stormtrooper with a goal of reaching centurion.
I'm kind of lost with where to begin.
I really need advice on companies. I've been watching a lot of RS propmaster videos and am definitely looking for some really good armor.
Anyway, would love help, advice, and info on when their might be an armor party! I'm in Seminole County, not far from UCF!
Take care, and MTFBWY!
https://news.cah.ucf.edu/news/star-wars-telep/Greetings Pete. I am working on joining the ranks very soon and I will be ordering my white armor very soon. I will be getting mine from Dave's Dark side Depot in Florida. He is an Armor Master and is located in Florida. So that will save you money on shipping. He is one of the armorers that is recommended on this forum. One of the 501st troopers on here said he has bought two suits of armor from him.
davesdarksidedepot@gmail.com
He is a very helpful guy and also a 501st legionaire.
All these folks on here have been very helpful to me.

I already have a Boba Fett helmet =') it just needs painted and weathered properly. Also it needs range finder antenna.
-
I also was wondering? Is it ok for me to build my Stormtrooper armor from either of the original trilogy styles and still be 501st approved?

I would highly suggest starting your own build thread, and here is why:
1. You can ask as many questions as you like. As Erick stated, "No question is stupid or unimportant" and you will get more responses.
2. You can (and should) post progress pictures, and lots of them! This especially helps when you have an issue. Seeing an actual photo makes it MUCH easier to help.
3. Keeping everything in one thread helps you (and us) keep track of your progress.
4. Since others may have a similar issue or question it can help them as well.
One thing to keep in mind is that building a quality set of armor takes time. Like all of us, I'm sure you want to get it done and start trooping, but rushing leads to mistakes. When in doubt, always measure twice (or more), and ask for advice before cutting. Consider this a marathon and not a sprint and you will come out with a truly spectacular set of TK armor.
I do indeed want to to have a Quality set or armor =')

Thanks a million. I can't wait to get my BBB and start building.
Should I have someone help me with the fitting of my armor while I'm building it? Or can I do it by my self? Mostly with the chest and back.

Okay, I'm going to give my first advice as a Personal Trainer.
We all need to lose weight. That said, if you build muscle, you will not lose weight as fast as you'd like. Also, when you first start working out, you will be building muscle bulk initally to handle the exercise of your body. You won't lose weight as fast. Also, you will never gain actual muscle cells. What you are doing is increasing the number of connective proteins inside those cells. Very technical and if anyone wants more detail they can PM me.
My second comment, for those who are concerned about their BMI, it is a good starting point, but really doesn't indicate your fitness level. In fact, in the late 1980's early 1990's the American College of Sports Medicine stopped using BMI as an indicator of fitness. Many of the olympic caliber athletes show up on the "overweight" section of the BMI charts, and we can all agree (I think) that they aren't overweight, or out of shape. BMI can be used as a general rule of thumb, but your main concern will be the body fat percentage. Some of the newer electronic scales available out there will give you a rough estimate of that percentage. Keep track of that. If you want to find your ideal weight, use the following based on age:
For Men:
20-40yrs 8-19% (healthy range)
41-60yrs 11-22% (healthy range)
61-79yrs 13-25% (healthy range)
For Women:
20-40yrs 21-33% (healthy range)
41-60yrs 23-35% (healthy range)
61-79yrs 24-36% (healthy range)
You can calculate your body weight by using online calculators, or formulas. It will require some measurements using a cloth tape. Remember though, this is just an estimate!
Good luck and let's keep each other movtivated!
I'm a 53 yo male at approx 180lbs. And 6 ft tall. Is that a good weight for my age? I would like to have a smaller mid-section. But don't want to loose weight. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance. I also am going to order my TK ANH Stormtrooper armor soon and join the 501st ranks.

I have:
- Stormtrooper ANH Stunt
The kids have:
- Sabine Wren (Season 2) made from EVA foam
- Jawa with 3D printed Ion blaster (Brian Wheeler loved it)
I'm working on:
- ANH/ROTJ (tbd) TIE Pilot - Pretty early but I've got a few parts and have spoken with a maker/held the first pull of the armour. Still waiting to see the hemispeheres before I am ready to order. Also need to check he's going to do the chest box. Getting the right boots for my clown feet is a pain so trying to stretch out some smaller ones that JUST fit.
- Shore Trooper - Stalled but I have the leather goods, some greeblies and some hand plates (1 of which is a 1st generation recast of screen used). I also plan on 3D printing the bucket regardless because it's cool.
- Lucius Malfoy (Masked Death Eater) - wifes a potter fan, we live near the WB Studio Tour it was kind of inevitable. We're currently researching still though I've drawn up some patterns for some bits. Struggling to find good reference for the boots/gaters and the tour used the wrong ones on the display. I need to go back again to get better reference for what the various fabrics are on the vest and robe. Lots of sewing on this one, so I'm slowly learning my way around a sewing machine.
You all are encouraging me more and more. I will be ordering my stormtrooper armor pretty soon. I also have a Boba Fett helmet that I had found a few years ago. But it needs to be fixed and repainted to actually look like it's helmet and make his armor and costume.

@Von Goodleef - The Imperial Handbook is available at Amazon or Barnes & Noble (US).
Additionally, the backgrounds on many Trooper's images are all photoshopped. Individuals' photos are simply edited onto general Imperial-style backgrounds. Hope this helps!

Klol. That's what I was thinking about the photos. I'll check our the book. Thanks again.

For boots there’s always the traditional method: black Chelsea boots painted white.
For an ANH trooper the holster is always on the left hip. It’s nothing to do with the handedness of the trooper it’s how they were on screen. In many scenes you see all troopers carrying lefty. I know many troopers who emulate this when trooping but I personally struggle so only do it when the look requires it.
So do you use white leather paint on the boots once you prep them for painting?

So here it is! My kit is being packaged and shipped as we speak. In anticipation for my BBB I figured I'd start my build thread. I was able to go to my first troop last weekend at a local comic book fest and see how thing are done. This was a great experience! TK55933 showed me the ropes and I think I'm going to love every minute of this ride!
A little background on me. I have always wanted to be a trooper, but I've also always been unable to do this due to my weight. On July 30th of last year I had Gastric Sleeve surgery. This saved my life. Being obese led to high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and pre diabetes. My BMI was 41 and there were nights I didn't think I would wake up. Now I'm a year out from surgery and I've lost 120 pounds and I haven't felt this good since the late 90's! Now that I'm at perfect trooper weight it's time to join the ranks. I set myself a goal during this whole thing. To join the 501st. Today officially starts that goal being a reality!
I knew my kit was being made and I got a little excited and couldn't sit still. So I started 3D printing my E-11 Blaster.
With a little luck I should be able to post some pics this weekend. I welcome all suggestions and look forward to bombarding all of you with questions!
Thank you all for helping make my dream come true!
I'm glad that you are doing better my friend. Being a stormtrooper has been a dream of mine since I was 13. Now I'm 53. Also I am wanting to be healthier so I can see my grandchildren graduate and get married and have great grandchildren :')

Troop #1 - 26/05/2017 - MCM London ComicCon
First time out with the UK Garrison, so this involved my induction which was basically my introduction to life within the garrison all the do's and dont's and how to keep people safe from a spotter's perspective Troopers and otherwise. So spent the morning with a few experienced hands looking after these guys and girl
Quick break for lunch (of course a army marches on its stomach) then got kitted up for my induction which in the UK is getting branded with the garrison logo , 4 of us today that's me on the left
Troop #2 - 27/05/2017 - MCM London ComicCon
Day 2 of MCM still on a massive high from the day before but was able to kit up straight away and do my first patrol of the day whilst on the way to survey the queues someone got this shot of the squad in front of the exhibition center (me on the far right)
did two patrols in the morning then spent time in the afternoon supporting the garrison stand and spotting for a few other squads, was nice to see everyone's reactions and help out with the photos everyone always wants
Calm before the storm !!!!!!
Troop #3 - 13/06/2017 - Rayliegh town fair
last minute addition due to change of plans was able to support a little local troop with some reel icon characters as well, spotted for the first outing geared up for the second, was good to meet my local brothers and sisters in arms. this was my favorite photo of the day still thinking of captions
Troop #4 - 13/06/2017 - Albert hall Space spectacular
From the small to the grand, trooping at London's Albert hall long day for a small appearance but what a entrance.. the brief was to come out during the London philharmonic orchestras encore as they finished off the star wars score, quite a few rehearsals in the afternoon stairs are not a troopers friend!! we then retreated to the dressing rooms to wait for our curtain call
Here's a pic of part of the teams entrance also added a link to a punters video that has appeared on you tube (we start coming out around 2.50 mins) even lord Vader made a appearance
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0aJbANPMFrQ&feature=youtu.be
This is so awesome. I can't wait for my first troop.

Yea they're closed. You can buy them from Imperial boots but they take orders in waves then shut down to complete the orders. https://www.imperialboots.com/#
Similar boots can be found elsewhere you'll just need to do a little research.
I've seen lots of places that sell boots. I just want good and comfortable quality ones.

Hey Alan welcome to the FISD.
It's the ANH Stunt and Hero movie gun (prop) design that requires the ANH Stunt and Hero holsters to be mounted on the left. ESB and ROTJ armor holsters are on the right. So long as the armor you buy allows for the correct build type you're golden.
The build threads offer an abundance of information that will assist you with this as well as every other aspect of armor types.
Sweet. Thank you for that info. And thank you for the warm welcome. I more than likely will be buying from Dave's dark side Depot. I will do more research on a right handed holster.
Getting my ANH TK armor soon.

Thanks friend for the encouragement. Working on it for a few hours a day makes sense. And yes, I have been learning about EIB and CENTURIAN. All of this info is a bit overwhelming at first. I never knew that there was so many differences in Stormtrooper armor.
