Something I would suggest, is to look over the other EIB and Centurion post, The ones that got approved, and make sure yours follows what they have. your doing great, its just little things that can go unnoticed but will be spotted by a 3rd party here. its great, because we as the builder think we have everything, and someone else will spot something that was overlooked. Kind of like reading your own material. you know what its supposed to look like so you may miss something. but someone with "fresh eyes" will find out the issues and help

I finally received from Anovos my kit after 16 months of waiting.  Can someone advise where I should start this post to ensure I am following the proper posting rules?  Thanks

Glad to see some have gotten their Anogross kits. (sorry that company just gets to me). I cant wait to see you on the front lines fighting along side us! we will get you through this and you will be a shiny before you know it. As far as pictures go, I used Imgur, it works great

Recommend you read from a number of build posts (particularly the pinned ones in green cause they're quite good) to get a feel for how and what people present. Then you can decide on your particular style and how you want to present. As Wook indicated, by far the most important thing - post lotsa pictures and pose any/all question you have. This will remove any doubt because the folks here are great at helping.

Are you a 501st member? if so, go request 501st and stormtrooper access to the forum, will open up some more doors for you

Alright well I decided I was going to do the helmet first, that way if I lose motivation I have a nice finished helmet to get me going again!!
So I painted the inside black, easy as pie (it’s all I can do right now)

And I was wondering, how much should I trim off the helmet??
    56012fa77885cd0c5bb2348de86b06f0.jpg

Should I just trim to the point where it stops looking super wonky and where it is flat?

Also, this must’ve been a rough pull or something because the back side of the helmet has more acne than I ever did in high school!

Is this ok? Will it make anything any harder? I’m not going to even attempt to use bondo or anything like that to cover it up. I’m not too anal about that sort of stuff, but it’s REALLY bad.
Thanks guys and input is of course appreciated!

Only thing I can see that might be a pain, is that you painted before you cut out the eyes. May end up pulling a lot of the paint off when you cut, unless you use an exacto and cut through that way. As far as trimming the helmet goes, if you look really close, you can see there is a "valley" where you can cut. look at reference photos will help to know exactly where to take it off. should be right at the Vocoder and straight across with quick curves. Again, check reference photos though, the hole shouldn't be big enough to put straight on your head, unless your head is really tiny. But should be able to go on side ways, and "twist" into place.

As far as the look of that helmet, looks normal for ATA. A buddy of mine that is currently working on an ATA bucket looks like that. I don't like it, but I believe that is kinda how the originals looked. (ATA might be pulled from the original, but don't quote me on that)

Ok, so honestly there are only really 2 issues I can see, and it might be more for Centurion and not EIB, but good to fix them now if needed. Your TD is rotated too much "upward". you should be able to see the "button" in the picture above. may just need to roll it down some and "pinch" the bracket closed a little more.

Second is the butt plate, where you have your snaps are set. that part of the plate should actually come off, and the be set just above that. I figured you did it room as you are a bigger trooper, but again, looking at the photo above, you don't need it. removing it will help with comfort as well. I have a feeling that trooping with that "tab" still on the armor may get uncomfortable.

Again these are just some things that have stuck out to me, and may not be required fixes for EIB. At the end of the day its up to Tony and Joseph to give you the title. Hope this helps not only reach EIB, but Centurion soon after!

Thanks for the kind words and info fellas. So I passed of RS’s strapping kit because $130 for some straps seemed silly. Turns out that also includes the canvas belt, hand guards and gloves, which seems an odd thing to make part of the strapping kit but now the price makes more sense. I’ll have to source those elsewhere, which is fine as I’d like something a little friendlier than the solid rubber gloves. I’m still a ways off from having to worry too much about that yet.

I think you could source all that by yourself for a less. and the "strapping kit" isn't required for any level here. I have snaps and elastic on mine and it will not prevent me from Centurion.

I thought I'd go ahead and get this thread started. I ordered my stormtrooper kit last night from RS Prop Masters. I went with ABS for the material, ultimately because it's apparently easier to repair. I didn't stress too much over it as I read over and over that you couldn't go wrong with either ABS or PVC. I wanted to build this suit as I love the thought of walking around a convention with it, I don't really know much about the 501st right now. I still want to try and build it to centurion specs should I decide to join in the future, and because I like the thought of having something very close to what was seen when the very first troopers burst into that corridor and shredded the rebel defense. I've never tried to build anything like this before, so I'm nervous but I think I can pull this off. Thankfully, there's a lot of information and helpful people here :)

I got an email from RS this morning saying that they were waiting on an order of ABS to arrive, so I really have no idea when I'll get my box, but I'm looking forward to that day. I should have most of the tools I need already, though a belt sander is on my list.

    Watch this space!

This is great, and a great first step to your finished build.

If I may, you should head over to www.501st.com and read up on them a little. But for a quick rundown, we are a world wide costuming group that has movie and reference accurate costumes from the Star Wars universe. We are recognized by LucasFilm to have such accurate costumes and are often recruited by them (Disney) for promotional events. 501st Legion prides itself in being giving! We assist everyone we can in raising money for charity. We do things like Star Wars related "Make a Wish" foundation, Visit hospitals, and show up to premier events for new Star Wars movies. The 501st is so much more than Cons and is currently sitting at 13,481 active members with 26,076 approved costumes. I have only been apart of the Legion since June, and can tell you the feelings I have gotten over the events we have done is simply amazing. Seeing those that don't get to see anything other than the inside of a hospital rooms face light up when they see us is next to none. Having grown adults absolutely flip when they see you is great. The smiles and joy the 501st brings to people is something I wanted to be a part of for a very long time.

Hopefully I have at least peaked your interest and have pushed you to look into it a little more. Getting to know your local Squad/Garrison can be a huge help when you need some hands on assistance during your build.

Well, I already evened out the kidney and butt plates, so that's done.

Yeah, the original owner did some ... interesting things with his build.  Weird snaps and return edges everywhere. :shok:

I drilled out and replaced the incorrect snaps with the correct ones, but now I see that I basically have to do the following:

Well, I can take care of trimming those when I do the ab buttons.

Sounds good. Looking forward to watching you fix everything. Going to be some work but nothing too crazy

Wow.  Very cool side by side!  Ty!

Security troopers I was referring to were basically the tattooine troopers.  But i like them for their "security" role.  I dont want to try the weathered sand trooper look.  White is what I'm learning towards.

Both of your examples look right in line with that.

Sorry, Im struggling to understand which trooper your talking about. there is nothing in the CRL that talks about "Security Trooper". what movie are you talking about. The Stormtroopers on Tatooine were sandtroopers. Could you maybe explain a little? There are the same type of Trooper on Jedha that are Sandtroopers but "clean"

I like being somewhat unique, so that leads me to ROTJ, but other aesthetic points may take me elsewhere.

I'm hoping once I'm ready for approval I can possibly choose my TK# from a list of unregistered TK numbers.  If not I'll survive.

I am already a member of my local garrison forum.  They pointed me here for my build.  I'm looking forward to getting to know them and fellow troopers in my area and all over.

    GreatLakes Garrison!!

So if you go to the area where you fill out the application, there is a section that you can view the available TKID numbers that there are. The Legion asks that you submit 5 choices in order to have options when it comes time to approve. So when time is close, look at that and go, I was able to get my first pick.

    I'm 5'10.  Sitting around 200#.

Im not sold 100% on ROTJ build yet.  I still need to learn the differences between the various classic trooper costumes to make my final choice.

The Red Wings version would be a secondary build.  1st priority is a 501st approved build, then get my TK number officially. (However that works)

Would you say your "stocky"? If so,  I would have to recommend AM armor, his stuff is built for bigger troopers, and fits amazing. I am 6 1 at 215 and I love the way his kit fits me! Great communications, and awesome product. as far as the how you get your number deal. you must:

1> Build and complete an approved costume as per the standards of the 501st CRL

2> Submit an application to the 501st along with photos of you in your kit to you GML (GML determines approval)

    3>sit and wait lol

4>receive an email for the GML about being approved and receiving your TKID

that last one can sometimes take a while depending on the size of you garrison. My best advise for you right now, even though you aren't settled on a costume (ROTJ is great, please don't let the fact that its not common scare you off if it), is to find out who your GML is and start getting to know them. This way once your costume starts coming together, you can have easy communications with the GML and they can walk you through any issues they may see coming. The people on here are absolutely amazing, and a great resource. BUT, at the end of the day the GML is the one that tells you your good to go or not.

*side note: If your worried about the small amount of troopers that have done ROTJ, don't let that scare you, I just submitted my Swamp Trooper costume and there are only 9 approved in the entire legion, ill be #10

  12. wow one of the few, ROTJ will be a fun one to follow. Most do ANH or ESB. The Detroit Red Wings idea is cool, but please be aware that changing your armor like that would no longer be accepted by the 501st, so I would wait till you have another approved costume. you are in great hands here, and we will get you to the end. Centurion is yours! couple of questions to help us, help you, get started. What are your measurements? this can help greatly on figuring out which vendor to go to. All too often I am seeing larger troopers going with the wrong (for their body type) vendors and causing serious issue down the road.

Oh I totally forgot to mention that. At 5’9” and 130lbs, I’m very slim. Are there any other measurements I should mention?

Ive been looking through the getting started subsection and the vetted vendors. I was initially looking at the “TK UK” armor, the price and B1G1 deal was alluring but given the issues people have had in the past with quality and shipping, I decided to stick with the vendors with a solid reputation. I have a tendency to want to hurry up and buy something when I take interest in a hobby, so I’m trying to fight that temptation and do it right :)

one other question I have as of right now, where in Texas are you?

I would stay away from any armor that isn't on the vetted list. it can cause issues down the road. you may even end up spending more money trying to fix whats wrong with some of the off the wall vendors. the Vetted list is the way it is for a reason. trusted and shown to know what they are talking about

The part of the thighs that are too tight are the body of the thigh, itself.  It's not tight at either top or bottom, but right in the middle around the meat of my legs.  Hot water bathing would not have helped.  I had already cut the butt  to butt joint edges down to match the 25 mm width I thought was required for the thigh cover strips.  Fortunately, I cut them all in one piece, so I glued it back on to give me the room I needed, and that required a 42 mm cover strip to get my leg to fit.  It's ATA armor - not sure anyone else has had this issue with them, but it seemed like the thighs were built for children.  Anyway, yes, all strips are uniform width - all four front strips on upper and lower legs match, as do the rear strips.  A guy in my local Garrison who is on the approval team said it should not be an issue.

This sounds great. and so you know, there are a lot of things within the "preferred" area that will not keep you from obtaining Centurion. We want our troopers to look as best as possible, but like Joseph mentioned, we totally understand and recognize that not all troopers are built the same. This is also why NO armor kit is 501st approved. Armor is only approved in conjunction with  the wearer. A kit is not approvable on its own.

When talking to your Garrison mate, the one that's on the approval team, be sure he knows that your end game is Centurion. He may be telling you "Ya that will work" but merely talking about basic, which may cause you to do something that will require even more work later down the road for Centurion. If you start out with Centurion in mind, set that as your goal, it makes the build a lot easier. Basic can be achieved with a rushed kit. Centurion takes just a little more work, and time, and a touch of love for the Empire, and you will be there.

Just keep it coming, let the photos flow, and we will get you there. No problem is too big to handle.
