  1. QUESTION: Have any of you primed/painted your helmets?  If so any recommendations?

Background:  in my enthusiasm for obtaining a kit from RWA, I had Ross sign the interior of my helmet — a nod to the artist like the signature on a painting.  I wanted to have a personal memorial inside to the man behind the kits.  Well, the idea sounded great at the time until I saw that the writing is visible through the 1.5mm ABS.  *sigh*  So I'm thinking of spray painting the lid with Krylon's matte white all-in-one primer/paint (multi-surface, works with plastic).  I did test it on a scrap piece and it seemed to mask the marker quite well, but I'm still extremely cautious about doing this.

    Any thoughts or recommendations?

A trooper AND a drummer - were we separated at birth? ;-) lol

Truth be told, I'm a guitarist that just tries to play drums LOLOL!   I used to play music a lot more in the past but just don't have the kind of free time to devote to it like I used to. I used to write my own material, sing, play guitar (and other instruments) and record my own material; also used to be in a few bands — but kids happened.  :P  Kids tend to throw a wrench in one's free time.

  3. I thought it was a Smurftrooper at first...
have fun, we’ll be eagerly watching.

Funny because half of my sorta nerdy friends said the same thing — “so....are you supposed to be a Smurftrooper? Because that’s what that looks like right there...”. “Yes, we’re going to smurf those rebels with our smurfy smurfers right in the smurf.”

  4. I received my RWA ANH TK armor kit today and of course couldn’t wait to get cracking! I’m doing my best to take it slow and be careful but it’s also hard to curb my enthusiasm here.

So here’s my WIP thread, aiming high for Centurion and hope to start trooping before spring starts — I’ve got a lot of work ahead of me!

As someone who owns a pair, you're better off getting a new pair from ImperialBoots or TKBoots. Even if you are able to cover up the seams, TK/Imperial Boots are of much better quality and will last a lot longer.

Probably not what you wanted to hear, but on the bright side at least you'd have a backup pair!

Yeah not quite what I was hoping for. I think I’m going to press on with the attempt to mask the seam. After two coats of Flex Shot it looks a lot better. I am going to let this dry and give it another few coats tomorrow and see how it looks.

  6. These would be great boots. I bought these without noticing the seem on them in the photos and have a little buyer’s remorse. I want to try and cover up the seam with white Flex Shot rubber adhesive/sealant, but would like to see if anyone else out there has solved this problem to cover up seams and make them level two+ compliant.

I did try a little of the Flex Shot on one of the back seams (where it would be less conspicuous) and it looks like a few coats might solve the issue, but I wanted to see what others have done before I get too far.

  7. I'm in process of building out a series of audio files for my TK build that will play various radio chatter over my helmet comm (quietly of course as not to be annoying or distracting), and had been searching for isolated audio files of the in and out clicks on the stormtrooper comms.  Well, after a disappointing search, I just made my own.  Feel free to download and use at will.

There are two mp3 files, one is the com in, and the other the com out.

Also for what it's worth, the Shidu SD-S511 personal voice amplifier works great for reproducing that stormtrooper voice audio.  Mount the speaker behind your chest plate, put the headset on under your helmet, and put a USB stick in the Shidu and it'll cycle through whatever mp3 files you have in there.  I put individual chatter things in there with 10 seconds of silence or so to help give a little breathing room between chatter samples.

  8. THANK YOU everyone for responding to my post. This really has me on the fence about going with Anovos — the major "pro" obviously being the price, and the "cons" being delivery time, possibility of cracking, and the lack of customer service.  Also, thanks for the feedback on the soft parts — definitely will skip out on that and source my own.

Those of you that reinforced your armor, could you provide a bit more detail about that? Namely what areas you reinforced and what you used and your method to reinforce it?

  9. I am thinking of buying an Anovos stormtrooper kit for my first build,  but I wanted to hear what other people thought about their armor first. Have you experienced any cracking or the armor being extra fragile? Have you been satisfied? Have you had it a short while only to replace it with something more expensive? I would like to hear your story and experience with Anovos....and...GO!

  10. Hey everyone.  My name's Michael and I live in the Minneapolis, MN area and am currently in process with getting plugged into the Central Garrison and am looking into TK/TD build kit options for my first costume.  I'm particularly interested in both producing a costume that is consistent with 501 standards as well as participating in some of the charitable appearances, too.  Most recently I saw the 501st at the Minnesota Twins Star Wars Night and had a blast seeing the men and women in uniform there.

My biggest hurdle right now is finding sources for armor that are approved by 501st.  After a few hours of digging through White Armor, I've found more info on who NOT to get armor through than who are the more common (and affordable) ones to purchase kits through.  Any advice on reputable sources (aside from Anovos) would be quite helpful.  Thanks!
