  1. Thanks, Lads! I will likely start with the weapon itself. I can do the build at home, and fabricate parts (such that my limited skills will allow - nothing like learning new things, though). I chose this route, mostly, because I am a bit too big for most of the armor that I have talked to people (makers listed on this site) about. Still need to shave off a few more inches, but, I'm down 3" since deciding to do all this. So, progress is progress. Once I start on the weapon, I'll make a post in that section and be willing to take any and all advice to that regard. Thanks again! Jes
  2. Yes, please! "Dear, Santa...I've been a good little wanna-be TK ALL year, and...."
  3. I've been toying with the idea of the 501st for a few years now, and, have finally decided to try and make some headway. (Real life got in the way for a bit) After looking at all the uniforms, I've decided that I really like the Incinerator armor. Just the look of it, battle worn and color contrast, etc, looks great. Not to knock any of the other ST armor classes. My next step is trying to find armor. Being a big guy (6'1" and about 275 or so...losing some, but, slowly), it seems that ST armor is a bit more difficult to locate, even from some of the well reputed places mentioned in these forums. None the less, I have made the decision, and once I locate armor, I'll start working my kit and submit the needed info to the 501st. Glad to see a forum dedicated to this, and I look forward to being able to join you all some day (soon?).
  4. I was thinking about starting out with an Incinerator Trooper. Seeing your post, and the unbelievable creativity and crafting you put into this, has basically just solidified that idea. GREAT build!!
  5. I'm glad to see this post. In spite of how old its origins are. I'm looking into armor kits, and the biggest issue I have is I am not the size of the average British actor that filled the roles in Star Wars. At 6'1", and 275 lbs (and trying to lose about 30-40 lbs for health reasons), even though I carry it fairly well, except for the spare tire that my ex-wife said I carry "too well", I was thinking finding armor in my size is going to be the biggest challenge. That being said, I'm glad I'm not the only one out there with this issue, and even more glad to see that there are at least a few places where "Big Boy" (or Girl) armor can be acquired.
  6. I'm thinking, having worn full-faced motorcycle helmets, firefighting apparatus, and gas masks, that the fan is likely single best solution. In the meantime, as someone stated, wearing your helm in familiar surroundings (hanging out at the house/garage/etc) is a great way to acclimate yourself. Not sure if this will help, but, it's a trick our Platoon Sgt. from Recon taught us; when you start to get the sensation, before the actual claustrophobic state kicks in, slowly inhale for 4 seconds, then, slowly exhale for 4 seconds. Do this several times, trying not to hyperventilate. Slow, steady streams of air. Usually, about 10 times should do it. Concentrate on the breathing and the counting. While it may take some getting used to, I assure you it works.
