  1. Awesome! Thank you for that post. I'm surprised at how cheap it is. Cheers
  2. Alex, for what it's worth here's a link to a few pics of my Right Calf. Ignore the rivets, bad idea if you want to be accurate. --------- I don't think the pics in the last link to thread are of an FX, but I could be wrong. Hope this help a little, Cheers
  3. Thanks for the info on fabric to ABS bonding VacTrooper. I finished my chest & belt mounting rig harness tonight, and bonded the right thigh together. The plan is to fasten the shoulder bells to the under rig, so that the Ab/Cod can come off separate from the rest. I'm hoping for a modular construction that will allow bathroom breaks to be painless and quick, while only removing what is absolutely necessary. Cheers!
  4. I would also realy like to see some pis of how other TK's have trimmed their back of the knee armor, as I have the same pinching problem. It looks to me (On the FX I have) that I can not trim the bottom of the rear thigh without losing the lip molding around the knee, same goes for the top of the shins. The velcro is an interesting idea, but I'd rather not add any more visible strapping then I already have. If all else fails I may just sew a knee brace/pad out of sports equipment liner padding. Any help/pictures would be great. Thanks
  5. So I found some great material for lining the armor at Jo Ann Fabrics, it's black and soft like Cotton on one side, and Grey textured foam on the other, I believe it is actually called helmet liner. It's about a 1/2 CM thick, and gives just enough extra padding & friction to make the armor comfortable and fit well. It also stops the pieces from sliding around or rotating. As an added benefit for the winter TK, it does offer some warmth, though this may be undesirable during the summer. I'll post pics latter this week, so far I've tested it on the Right Bicep & Forearm/Bracer. CONSTRUCTION QUESTION: Anyone have any advice on a bonding agent for fabric to ABS? Thanks
  6. Hey Alex, looks like the more experianced TK builders have your question covered. I have been sanding all the areas to be bonded, and have not had any problems...yet. On an unrelated note, I thought I saw your FX LITE kit for sale in the thread, what happened if don't mind telling? Cheers
  7. Thanks, I thought it was safe for ABS. A friend of mine who workd in a plant gave me that info, but I'll edit that post. Guess I should be more carefull about trying to give advice, huh.
  8. Here are some links to pictures and descriptions of the Torso/Cod & Butt Plate so far. I've gone almost exclusively Industrial Strength Velcro for my 1st assembly run. Strapping and Butt Plate http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?auto...si&img=1287 http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?auto...si&img=1286 http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?auto...si&img=1285 http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?auto...si&img=1281 http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?auto...si&img=1280 I've used a single snap and some elastic to conect the butt plate to the cod. Torso & Cod http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?auto...si&img=1275 http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?auto...si&img=1274 http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?auto...si&img=1273 http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?auto...si&img=1272 And finaly, my 1st Test Fit. http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?auto...si&img=1265 http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?auto...si&img=1267 http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?auto...si&img=1266 http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?auto...si&img=1268 Thanks for looking.
  9. WOW! That return edge on all the parts makes FX look soooo much better, very nice job! I'll have to get a Hobbie Iron for mine soon.
  10. So here it is, yet another FX build progress thread to add to the ever growing list. While I do have some experience constructing plastic sci-fi armor, nothing could have prepared me for the trials involved in fitting & trimming FX White Armor. I won't even be starting on my MR CE bucket over haul until November! I received my FX LITE kit September 29th 2008. I started by 1st fitting the shins and thighs around my legs, and holding them closed. Then I used black duct tape on the outside of the halves at the seam, to hold the parts to size/shape. Next I added additional duct tape to reinforce the inside of the seams, and to prevent accidental shifting of the halves. this was all just to get a good test fit so I could mark off where to trim. I then (foolishly) riveted the top and bottom of the shins together in front because I did not have any E-6000 or Devcon Plastic Welder yet. I thought that the thighs/knees would cover up the rivets, but forgot about the ankles, so there goes any possibility of Elite status out the window! links to Right Shin/greave <a href="http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?auto...si&img=1289" target="_blank">http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?auto...si&img=1289</a> <a href="http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?auto...si&img=1291" target="_blank">http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?auto...si&img=1291</a> <a href="http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?auto...si&img=1292" target="_blank">http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?auto...si&img=1292</a> <a href="http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?auto...si&img=1293" target="_blank">http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?auto...si&img=1293</a> links to Right Thigh <a href="http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?auto...si&img=1296" target="_blank">http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?auto...si&img=1296</a> <a href="http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?auto...si&img=1295" target="_blank">http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?auto...si&img=1295</a> <a href="http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?auto...si&img=1264" target="_blank">http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?auto...si&img=1264</a> <a href="http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?auto...si&img=1263" target="_blank">http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?auto...si&img=1263</a> NOTE for construction: Duct tape leaves a sticky film on the plastic, this can be easily removed with a paper towel & lighter fluid, or rubbing alcohol. The legs were giving me a huge problem to fit at the ankle and the back of the knees, in that I could not bend my knee without stabbing into the back of my leg (ouch!) So I decided to move on to the Abdomen, Torso, Cod, and Butt plates. I'll post some pictures of the legs so far in my next post.
  11. Thanks everyone! UnderArmor is pricy, but I suppose you can't put a fair price on you health Josh thank you for posting links
  12. Hello Fellow TK's, I'm wondering what those of you outdoor fall & winter time troopers use for your undersuit? I have spandex/lycra dance tights and mock turtleneck leotard, but I get the feeling it just won't be warm enough for October. I know troops in MA attend the St. Patricks Day parrade outdoors, and my fellow NYers must have some cold times as well. Any advice much appreciated. Thanks, Adam-
  13. Hello again Brad, So IMO there's really no absolutly safe way to purchase on line, especially whithin this type of costuming community where almost everything is off the radar, and hand made. I think the best thing to do is read the entire For Sale Thred, or Project Order Thred. Just as you would look at an on line auctioneer's Feedback Rating on the big E*** site, look for feedback from your fellow troopers. I have yet to find anyone on here who is a scammer, but it does require some financial trust. If you use PayPal for items on the big E auction site, look for sellers that offer PayPal buyers insurance coverage. That means if they don't get you the product, you get your cash back through PayPal. NOTE: that will probobly never happen with project orders/threads here, just on the *bay FYI. As for approaching someone who lists, "Coustome ROTJ glove orders" or what ever in a thread, If you read the topic they usualy list the preferd contact method. If it just says, send payment to ****@yourdomain.wtf I would send a PM (personal message) to the maker. If the thread shows active posts from other people saying, got mine last week, and you have not heard from the topic starter, PM someone who just got whatever and ask them about it. When I went to get armor kit I just emaild cold to the paypal address, but only because previouse posts in the thread by FISD command staff said the topic starter does not get on very often, and recomeded emailing directly for inquiries. Everyone here has been very cool, polite, and open to questions, so always ask. Worst possoble case they write something mean to you
  14. I use tin sheers, or sharp scissors to cut ABS plastice (FX Armor) I find that hand held sheers give you a great deal of controll over your cut shape. draw a guide line with a marker, (though I've heard wax crayons are easier to remove) and follow the outter edge of the line, clossest to the excess you're trimming off so you have a little clearance incase you mess up. Sand the cut smooth. On a related note: Anyone have any pics or advice on trimming the FX thighs and shin/calvs to shape? The lowwer back of my thighs are so close together that the groove shape for the back of the knee is not vissable, it's just a horizontal line accross. Also my ankles (wow I can't spell ) are to tight for my boots. the boots keep popping out of the shin pieces when I walk, causing the entire calve/shin to ride up and into the back of my knee (ouch) If I trim the bottom of the ankle I'll lose the flair shape bell. I could use a shim to widden the lowwer leg assembly, but the rest of the shin fits perfect. Any help much appreciated
  15. I just started my FX LITE build yesterday, and the thighs & shins are prooving difficult. I think it will work out with some re-shaping, but the lowwer back of the HUGE thigh plates are not meeting in a way to maintain the /_\ shapped opening at the bottom rear center of the thigh (for the calf/shin armor clearance) I thin I'm going to end up re-cutting that trpazoid shaped notch from sctatch, which will leave me with no lip/moulding around the rear thigh. I'll post pictures once my GF clers out the digicam. I've noticed a shotage of rear leg pictures for referance as well. FYI: skinny as well at 6ft 145lbs 33"waist I still think this is the best option for new TK's like us, the the lowest cost entry point, and the ABS cuts really easily with tin sheers. One piece of advice I can give is buy your foam padding BEFORE you size the armour plates to your body. Guestimating how much additional clearance you'll need is a pain. Also deffinatly get TAPE, I used duct tape to hold the pieces togther for a test fit before trimming. Once the camera is available I'll start an assembly thread in the Armour Assembly/mods section. Be sure to check out these highdef screen capture pics for referance: ------------
