  1. Will it work? Yes, with modification, particularly the belt needs some pretty significant adjustment. I own an SDS suit myself, HOWEVER, i did not get it from Sheperton, but second hand for a bargain price already assembled and modded for legion approval. Long story short, if you buy from Sheperton, you'll be doing a lot of work and spending a lot of money better spent elsewhere.
  2. Haha i'm glad things are coming along swimmingly! I've only been trooping for a couple months and have had no regrets, i'm sure you won't either! Good luck on your approval!
  3. Forgot the link to profile, 501st access. http://www.501st.com/members/displaymemberdetails.php?userID=18986
  4. Was digging through some of my old star wars figures when i found this guy lying amoung them. He's a Coruscant guard from the Shadow Of The Empire novel, game, and comic book, under the helmet is Luke Skywalker. I was just thinking about how kick an impolite person a costume of this would turn out, even found a picture of a guy who made a helmet for it aswell. Any comments or opinions?
  5. Thanks for the suggestions! I'm ahead of you on the padding, had some foam lying around and wrapped the inside of both calf pieces, it's a much more snug fit, but in terms of the rotation, that is actually just my natural stance, my feet usually default to pointing outward so that's probably why it looks like that. Anyway, i took a few more pictures. Another example of my stupid feet being stupid in the first picture. I've glued some velcro straps on the gloves so the hand guards are now affixable. All that remains are the boots, the neck seal, and maybe a conversion kit for the E-11. I'm also looking to paint the vertical lines on the traps of the helmet but i'm holding off on that because i don't want to screw it up. I do have a Thermal Detonator, but i was alone on this one and it really is a pain to throw on by yourself. On a related note, i have 2 cracks in the breastplate, not huge, but it would be a shame to see them grow over time. Are suggestions on products or methods to makes repairs or am i just going to have to deal?
  6. The bucket has arrived! Took a new pictures. Haven't affixed the handguards yet but otherwise all i need now is the boots. I also need to paint the V-lines on the traps and tears
  7. Finally! Earlier today my shiny SDS armor arrived. I have a Dan Laws helmet coming in soon and boots will be next on the list, but even without those components, the minute i saw this armor i said to myself "Oh, yeah, this is happening." The suit is second hand but still in great condition and although it is the original stormtrooper line (about 2000 CAD from SDS) i was about to get my hands on a set for a fraction of the price. Still some modifications i have to make to adjust the fit, but otherwise it's like a glove! How does it look? I'll be updating this once i get better shots and get the helmet and boots, just wanted to get a pic to show my friends.
  8. I dont want to sound entitled, far from it. The 501st and the FISD community has been awesome helping me out, simply being part of this family is honour enough. But I am curious if there are any perks for being a member. I understand that the 501st do a lot of events and showings for charity and the like, would I get to be a part of those gatherings? Again, don't want to sound entitled, this TK is happening either way, I'm just trying to understand the 501st better.
  9. I'm just curious, i'm not a trooper vet like alot of people here, but other than that...interesting...helmet, what is it about that armor that makes it unapprovable, it looks pretty bloody good for something made so many years ago.?
  10. I'm 19, just getting into the troop scene and with this kind of investment? I intend to do it until i can't do it no more.
  11. The Newest attraction live at Jabba's Palace!; 50 Shades of WHITE! In all seriousness, there's nothing sexier than a woman in some authentic white just my opinion of course, but hey, there's a time and place for everything, and why should Fem trooper armor be any different?
  12. So i've been digging around and found myself a set of SDS (ABS) armor that excluded a helmet. I've also found a Ginos HIPS helmet for sale aswell, both of which look very appealing for what they are and what they're priced at. However, i must ask before i kick myself for taking the dive; Is it wise to mix an ABS suit with a HIPS Lid, or will the result come out looking as if it doesn't match?
  13. ...because he's holding a thermal - wait no he isn't... Wasn't sure if this fell under "Hard Armor" per-se, so i thought i'd file it under accessories. TLDR Below; Anyway, i'm making my foray into the world of Trooping and the 501st thanks to alot of guidance from the community. A seller got in touch with me regarding an SDS Original Stormtrooper set that they were looking to get rid of, and seeing how expensive it was on originalstormtrooper, i thought that this was quite the deal. Now, i know that commercial suit, even second hand market suits aren't ideal, but i've got some time constrains that i've got to work around, and i'm more than happy to shell out some bucks for a nice suit and a bit of convienance. Unfortunatley, the sale does not include the helmet, boots, neck seal, or thermal detonator. The helmet can be found elsewhere, i've already found a seller of a Ginos helm that looks awfully pretty for a nice price, and i've already seen some nice spots to grab a neck seal and a pair of boots, but the one thing i'm having trouble finding is a Thermal detonator, and i'm sure you'd all agree that i can't REALLY complete the look without it, regardless of 501st approval. TLDR; Are there any suppliers that you guys/gals can recommend for a thermal detonator/o2 pack? My only requirment is that I'd like to have it in my possession and ready to roll by Mid-August, pre-assembled or kitted doesn't matter to me as long as it meets that deadline. Either that, or prehaps some detailed instructions on how to build my own 501st approvable? Thanks! Chris.
  14. Thanks alot for the advice! Now, when i say "Maybe in the future", i do mean FAR future, as in 10-15 years when i'm a little more established, assuming the 501st is still a thing at that time . At that point, i'll probably be more invested in making the required modifications and giving the care the project deseves, but right now, honestly, it's more about me fullfilling a childhood fantasy (Which is funny considering i'm only 19) and abusing the powers that come with a steady income/no expenses and less about becoming a dedicated member of any particular organization. Anyway, it seems like a from-scratch kit is out of the question given the deadline, but a pre-made could still be possible. As i mentioned, i've been scoping out the Shepperton Design Studios Battle Spec stormtrooper armor, (heres a link, just incase http://originalstormtrooper.com/stormtrooper-battle-spec-armour-123-p.asp )and although i've heard terrible thing about Andrew Ainsworth and his tendancies to stretch the truth and some inconsistances with the source material, people that have actually went out and made the purchase seemed to be happy overall with it, despite the less than perfect excecution. I've always been inclined to pick the more expensive option for the sake of conveniance. Cheap and easy? I always like easy, but cheap? Me? Never Unless it's Rubies...then i'm just PAYING to look cheap.
  15. Howdy! New around these parts, but i wouldn't for a second doubt everyones expertise here from all of the research i've done on trooping and the 501st. Anyway, i live in Canada, specifically, the Greater Toronto Area. With Fan Expo 2015 slowly creeping into view, i thought i'd go ahead and see what i can drum up in the way of a Storm Trooper cosplay (I hear Star Wars is in this year!). Now, there are a few things that i've thought about in terms of my own idea of what i want from this Armor, and what i'm willing to do to get a kit; - Patience is not a trait of mine, most of my time is spent working and what little free time i have is usually wasted on the internet, so a kit that's going to suck up huge amounts of time, either constructing or modifying, wouldn't be ideal. - At this current point in time, i don't really have an interest in joining the 501st (As cool as it would be, maybe in the future?) so 100% movie accuracy isn't a priority for me. To me, if an average joe can look at the Armor and say "That's a cool Storm Trooper!" then it's mission accomplished. - Money isn't too much of an object, i'm willing to set a budget for myself at around the 1200 dollar mark, which i've based around the SDS Battle Spec Armor and Bucket + Boots. I know, i know, AA is literally Hitler and all that, but it looked pretty neat to me, and although i consider myself a huge Star Wars geek, i am less of a movie buff, so i couldn't tell an RS from an eFX, ANH from a RotJ. -This Armor needs to be ready to roll by Mid August, which makes me think buying a fully assembled kit is the only option, but i'm here anyway, just to be sure. - I own a blaster already. It's a simple, poor mans recreation of an E11 that i've sprayed black, it will do just fine. Now, don't get me wrong, with all that said, i value authenticity, but right now it's a balance of cash, time, and quality that i need to find to make this work. I'd appreciate any advice from the experts of the 501st! Thanks!
