  1. I have a larger head and am planning to mod the inside so the size isn't that much of a concern to me. I've been researching for about 8 months now and I'm wanting to do it within the next 2 weeks. If I have to mod to make 501st approvable I would be ok with that, I'm just wondering if it's approvable or what will need to be done to make it approvable.

AM and RT Mod were meant for larger frames (and noggins) and are proportionate to the armor when assembled. The eFX is a nice show piece but you probably don’t want to troop with it or cut into it just to make it approvable.

  2. Hi, this information is very very helpful. Thank you. I had no idea how much there was to consider. Unfirtunately I have no confidence when it comes to practical things so assembling for me is best life to an expert. I'm going to enquire at RS Props about how much they charge to deliver ready to wear armour. Thanks again. Great forum. J.

None of us were experts when we started. get in contact with your local garrison and go to an armor party before you spend your money. It may give you the confidence you need to have a go! Best of luck and we hope to see you trooping soon!

  3. .....and it will be much lighter than a real demilled Sterling. Just finally got to hold a real one this past weekend and at well over 9 pounds (4kg) I decided that a real one isn’t as attractive as I had once thought.

  4. Thanks for that, Jim!

I actually prefer trooping with the rubber gloves over the Nomex gloves, regardless of accuracy.  I wear silk liners with them, and they are incredibly comfortable.  I've trooped in 90+ degree temps with 80% humidity for 2+ hours at a time (life in the South, gotta love it...), and I've never had issues with them.  So for me, ditching the rubber gloves isn't an option I'd like to consider at this point.

I guess my aversion to rubber gloves is a call back to spending 8+ hours in full chemical protective gear multiple times during my 22+ years in the Army. If they work for you, awesome!

I'd suggest removing the hand guards from the gloves and fix them and put them on a new set.....OR don't fix them at all, after all if you look at the hand guards used in ANH they are all kinds of cracked and peeling. The natural weathering process you have going on is only making everything more screen accurate!

  5. What he said ^^ If screen accuracy is your goal. If you just want a great set of armor then any of the vetted makers will work. The only people that will know the difference are the other folks in white armor. To 99.9% of the people you interact with they will have absolutely no idea (nor will they care) what armor maker you got your armor from.

No matter which you choose we are here to get you through the build process!

  6. Thanks. I'm narrowed down, I think, to RS (since they say built to size), TM, and AnoVos. Any thoughts?

RS armor is a first gen reproduction of screen used armor. It can be made to fit but is really best suited to folks with the same build as the original screen actors (see first post). Taller / stouter troopers should consider AM, RT or TM.
