Since I saw someone else do it and loved the idea, I turned my big pouch into a more functional pouch by making and abs insert box. Great idea!
-
I know you got it answered on Facebook, but for the sake of the thread - the black part is the belt half and the white part is the outer half. It's exactly 50/50 split where the seam is on the box.

Man, I still love the smaller pistol you made. I'm holding out hope for Force Friday that there's a decent toy that can be converted, otherwise I'm making one in a similar fashion. It would definitely improve the holster to have something hanging on it, but I doubt it will be the big blaster hanging there for now.

Ok friends, there have been a few different people asking about the belt and the buckle so here are some more pics. Hopefully this is helpful. 1) One end of the belt is cut and chicago screwed right to the end since obviously both ends don't need to be adjustable. 2) The other end with the male part of the buckle is chicago screwed with a couple of inches of room to spare to allow the buckle to adjust in case due to my body or the armor that the belt needs to be tightened further. I also left the extra rubber and canvas belt beyond the buckle so that if I enjoy a plentiful amount of boston baked beans or Mike n Ike's in the coming years, I can go bigger too. 3) This pic shows it with the two pouches covering the buckle and screws. The excess rubber and canvas belt end tucks into the soft pouch without the armor plate on it. I hope that's helpful!

You're welcome Brian! Good luck on your build!

Valid points Joe. I don't think the boots are bad either, I was just saying there's debate as to whether or not they're accurate enough to decide to purchase at this time. I totally get your point about the armor though - both are hard to get right now so it's kinda the same issue.
-
I would agree with Peter on the boots. Having a single source of boots who currently can't keep up with demand and whose soles aren't accurate is a pretty limiting factor to decide approvability. I agree they look better, but right now there is literally no way to get accurate boots unless you learn how to make footwear yourself. I'm going to buy Francois' boots myself, but there's a lengthy waiting list and I can totally understand people not wanting to pay that kind of money knowing that the soles will be replaced in the future.

Sounds great Eric! I think we're getting much closer. I will assume from this point forward that you will be handling the info from this point forward so I won't continue to make updates - although we're getting almost to a point where I think it needs that more serious look over anyways. For now, these images are in my photo bucket so if you want to use them as they are, let me know if you need me to email them or anything. Here's the updated post for reference: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/31034-the-force-awakens-stormtrooper-crl/page-10#entry420624

It actually looks like I didn't take many pictures. I have the one with the chicago screws on my build thread, but that's about it. Peter (Barcoder) has a few more pics, but not much that's instructional. I basically glued the chicago screws in where you see them in my thread and then punched holes through the belt. I also put abs strips on the inside of the halves of the belt boxes and then glued them closed. Anything specific you'd like to know?

So several people have asked about precise belt box placement and I thought I'd address it. I'm digging around and having a hard time coming up with a clear backup for my measurements. I'm seeing conflicting photos of a bigger gap between the horizontal and vertical boxes. I'm also seeing some where the vertical boxes are dropped slightly and some where they are even with the horizontal. Most official references I can find all seem to indicate the two levels of height on the boxes, with a bit bigger gap between the horizontal and vertical. Hope this is helpful, but certainly not resolved. MINE Some References

Have you checked out the build threads? There are pretty decent pics in there. Are you looking for something specific? Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk

Ok, I've updated several things incorporating some suggestions. I've also added a few new photos. This certainly isn't pretending to be done, but it's moving along. http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/31034-the-force-awakens-stormtrooper-crl/page-10#entry420624

Thanks for all the feedback Daetrin! I'll process this throughout the day and update some things. Here are a few caveats to that. 1) Eric and our LMO Brian will ultimately refine this and approve, but try to finish this off in a satisfactory way. I'm not the authority on what gets posted on the formal CRL, but someone needs to finish the dirty work. 2) When it comes to dimensions, I think it's tough because I see a lot of openness on CRLs for that. I think part of it is because to actually have the dimensions you need on these things, you'd get super detailed. You could probably write 20 bullets just for the belt and boxes. Do you think it makes sense to limit to dimensions that are more likely to come up due to how people come up with ways to build things? For example, I think guidance on the gaskets is a good one because you could quickly create a different look if you had ridges with no gaps or ridges half or twice as wide. It's a sort of fuzzier area that would be good to give clarity on. For the chest ovals however, it seems that you can get pretty close to the positioning by just looking at the pics. What do you think? 3) The photo selection thus far has been based on the current CRL format, which is why the belt is vertical and why there aren't too many angles on things. I think it's a great idea to get more in there, but not sure what's appropriate since it's actually more rare already that there is ever more than one pic for a section. I suppose it doesn't hurt to add more and then let Brian decide if we're cool to have a photo-heavier CRL for this. Stay tuned for more progress!

I think you could maybe do the biceps since there is a seamless side, but you'd have to cut off the whole return edge to make the curve match because none of these pieces are perfectly flat on the ends of the tubes. The shins and thighs aren't seamless so you'd have to both recreate the visible seam after cutting it and also make the curves of the plastic match up since they won't if you cut any off. I'm sure it's possible, but no where near as easy as it is to modify a classic TK.

Ok, now that I'm being annoying with my third post in a row, I'll post some pics of what I think I see is different about these.
-
And if you look at the third picture down, it looks like they have removable (and different) cod pieces. That's a good move considering how ridiculous it is to have armor that you have to nearly completely take off to take care of business.
-
The forearms also look different as they have a curved cut-out, kinda like the TFA, instead of just being tubular. A little strange that they're mixing it up for a suit that you would think would be identical to ANH. Cool to see them though!

Good to see all the progress!

Made some good progress the last couple of days. Thanks to a few troopers out there helping with providing a few of the photos! http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/31034-the-force-awakens-stormtrooper-crl/page-10#entry420624

Yeah, its maybe not enough to just say no to cloth, but instead inspect for visual integrity. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk

So far all the talk has been that - while the cloth ones are great for trooping - they're different enough in the look that the CRL should require something more rubbery with more defined ridges.
-
No problem! Like you said, it's really neat to help pave the way. You're build thread is awesome too. Definitely the primary build resource out there for TFA right now! I think everything we do is a blend of learning from our fellow troopers as well as thinking a little outside of the box.
-
Thanks Tony! In a way it was liberating to not have a history of builds with this armor because you didn't just automatically do it the way everyone had done it for years.
-
Totally agree! Honestly I don't know Shana. It seems a little too detailed for a CRL based on the others in my opinion as I can't imagine not getting approved for that. I'll put a comment in there so we don't lose track of that issue.
