  1. Have a question about the holster detail. Mine is too short for the raised portion on the thigh piece. Not sure what to do about that. Here you can see the length. It's being held off center a bit to better show the issue, it does fit left to right. What should I do here?
  2. How did you get your soft parts so fast? I've had my armor and gaskets for over a month and still no soft parts. <jealous>
  3. I will this weekend. I've been out of town since Tuesday so rushed to get it done by then. I painted it Monday night and left it. When I get back on Saturday we are going to do a final suit up and attach Velcro. Hopefully all will work for Halloween! My son is a little short this year for the thighs and shoulders so we aren't going to use them this time, but next year it all should fit like a glove. This isn't a good pic of everything but here's a test fit we did. I like it because you can see how excited he is.
  4. Trimming out the support material in the arm, legs and body pieces took FOREVER. So much more difficult than any other armor I've cut. I would cut it down as much as I could with my lexan scissors (and ruined a pair) then finished with an Exacto knife (and broke 3 blades in doing so).
  5. Great updates! May I ask a few questions? 1. What did you use to cut out the pill boxes? I'm afraid my Exacto knife skills aren't up to that challenge. 2. I'm still hunting to find PPG DFL1 for filler but my searching has found some alerts about its toxicity. Are you taking any safety steps when using it or is it not as big a deal as I'm reading?
  6. Where do you buy the PPG DFL1? I just spent the last 20 minutes searching and couldn't find it anywhere.
  7. Thanks, saw that in your build thread. Looks awesome. So you can sand the Devcon after it dries? No issues?
  8. Thanks for taking the time to document this. I'm about 90% of the way finished with mine for my son, I have to finish tonight in time for Hallowween so I haven't documented it myself, been working too fast! I'm glad to see everything I've done has lined up with your decisions. One thing you reminded me about are bathroom breaks! I can't tell the 5 year old to just hold it for too long, so I need to make sure that's easily accessible. I had planned on attaching the TD/Ab/butt/cod piece to the chest and back armor with Velcro but on a test fitting I discovered my son really wants to be able to turn his upper body and that limited him. So I think I'm going to do suspenders to the butt/cod piece and not attach it to the chest so he'll be able to turn a bit. Still thinking it over.
  9. Awesome. Thank you so much for the help and patience with a newb.
  10. And you can sand the Devcon for a seamless look? I thought it dried too hard for that. What filler for the divots? Thanks for the help!
  11. I haven't yet glued anything, but plan to use the Devcon as you recommend. But what will you be using to fill seams? I'm taking a quick break from my TFA set to work on my son's 48" TFA suit from the toy. I want to fill the screw holes on it and figured I'd use bondo.
  12. I've never used bondo before, and am going to do some tests on my son's Halloween costume. Is there a particular kind I should get? I see a few different brands and options. Thanks!
  13. Your wings are a lot closer together than mine are. Will have to look closely at that tonight.
  14. I obviously will need to do further sanding to get everything to fit better, but I'd like to get feedback on if everything is generally in the right position. Thanks!
  15. I did look at your pics extensively and in your top one, is the lip of 5A even with the edge of 6E or does it stick out a little from it?
  16. Yeah, I saw his post but my question comes before the back (1A) part that he is focusing on. I'm wondering when you put parts 5A and 6E together does the edge of 5A stick out past part 6E or does it sit flush?
  17. And I swear I have read and read and read trying to get clarification so I did search!
  18. New question regarding the back pieces at this connection. Should the edge on the top part be flush with the lower part? Currently it sticks out a bit which doesn't allow for the main back piece to lay flush with the glue area. Or should that overhang the main back piece when it's glued and that space be sanded/filled?
  19. Yeah, been doing that. In this case I think without the help of yours and other build threads I'd have thought you wouldn't need a shim for the particular connection. Glad you guys are here!
  20. I saw your pics (actually have your thread printed out in a binder and don't do anything without referencing it) but still wasn't entirely clear if I understood. So the shim will be glued to that part that I'm referencing? My confusion I guess is the need for the shim if there's apparently a glue tab, though the tab makes the L2 piece sit too low, so perhaps that's what the shim is for. I'm hopeful that after I work through these first assembly attempts I'll start to figure things out and won't have as many idiotic questions, but I figure I might as well ask anything now and take advantage of the resources here.
  21. Question on piece 7B, the left forearm. I can't tell from images I've seen, is this right part left on or should it be trimmed? I originally thought it was a glue tab but since shims are used for this part I'm no longer certain if it needs to be here or not. Obviously don't want to cut and then find out I should have left it. Thanks!
  22. Ok, you can be my Sidious but that doesn't end well for you.
