  1. Wow, this is hands down the absolute best blaster replica I've seen. The detail & electronics are without compare. Reviewing this tutorial is both daunting and inspiring. VERY well done- congratulations!!
  2. Yep, take her along with you trooping sometime. Not only can she get her "humph- men!" sentiments out with the other wives, she will see the delight in fans young and old as they come by and ask for pictures. My wife is an artist and finds the process of fabricating the costumes very interesting, so that'a point in my favor. I haven't been able to interest her in a uniform until she saw Juno Eclipse recently- she's found her character. She sometimes grumbles about the money, but not so much now that I have the TK I always wanted. I am very blessed to have such a cool wife. Good luck to you fellows whose wives are less-than-understanding. The tip about bringing her along for a children's event is probably the best you'll get as far as this subject goes.
  3. Yeah, I sign my TK # when autographing. A lot of funny lines help, too: when posing for pictures I tell people to "smile like I"m doing". Just after a picture sometimes I'll say "wait- I blinked!"... those usually always get a laugh. I try to keep people amused, not scare the little kids and scare the older kids just a bit Here is SG, we try to keep out buckets on as much as possible, especially around kids. We don't want to spoil the illusion. If a kid asks me to take it off, I reply that I am too ugly to be seen without it. Another good line to use when asked where you got your costume is "well, where do you get your/ costume?", which at least gets a chuckle out of that person's companions.
  4. Sure is. In August, we escorted the saber through Hobby Airport here in Houston after it's arrival Here's me holding the saber in its case during the press conference: Here is a look at the saber in it's case that day: And here it is on display at Space Center- shiny!: SCH had a Star Wars day on Dec 8th and had us out. We were a hit- SCH said their usual gate on a good Saturday is about 1800 people and with us there (they even featured us in a series of TV spots), their attendance was over 4000! Needless to say they were very appreciative and are already scheduling more events and working with LFL on a full exhibit of SW artifacts.
  5. Doug, we'd get along well. I see a lot of my faves on your list. I was a radio DJ in college and after, and I've worked in record stores, so I've got upwards of 3000+ CDs and then some in mp3 downloads. It's a very diverse collection. As to my all-time faves, here's a short list (in no particular order): Ramblin' Jack Elliott Canned Heat John Lee Hooker Morphine B-52's Wilco What's currently in the 6-disc player in the car: Canned Heat M.I.A. Charles Mingus Kanye West Morphine Golden Smog I love all kinds of music- bluegrass, rap, classical, rock, etc. but have come to the conclusion that at least 95% of artists in all genres are felgercarb. I try to skim the cream off the top and enjoy what I can.
  6. yeah, my Caboots smelled like someone puked in them, let it sit a while, then cleaned them out. Same for a couple other troopers who've gotten them in the last couple years. Don't know what it is, but a year's time filled with several sweaty south Texas troops has barely diminished the odor. I kept the boots in the crate with my armor for a few days a couple months ago and the armor has absorbed the caboot smell- I had to clean and polish the armor and replace several straps to get the caboots smell off my armor. Not even mighty Febreze could defeat the odor. I've written to Caboots about it, jsut to let them know that the general consensus is that they are great looking and comfortable, but stink to high heaven. No reply yet. I'm waiting for Fluevog (some of the hippest shoes you can find: www.fluevog.com) to make some trooper boots, I may even ask if they would custom make some for me, but I am afraid of the price!
  7. A pal of mine told me that he saw that biking trooper too. No idea who it was. How'd you hear about it? Were you in H-town, Eric?
  8. I like the number scheme that the Clones have... 327th, etc. How are these titles allocated? Number of posts, events? Geography? Myself, I like to sign posts and emails like so: Ian Wilkinson TK-1420 501st Legion, Star Garrison STX Squad Dunno what else there is to add. Seems to me the Empire might not want a lot of detail about where a trooper is deployed or has been at. I like "FISD Elite" That being said, I'll be happy with whatever prevails here, so long as it's not "Pink Tutu Wearer" or something like that, lol.
  9. I'm not sure what my profile here says, let's see here after this post... I do need to be listed with the Legion; my forum name here is my TK ID#. I am with Star Garrison. A link to my 501st.com profile: http://www.501st.com/members/displaymember...amp;costumeID=1
