  1. Very cool read, and very cool I got a mention in it to!!! Great job guys! See ya in the dunes!
  2. Thanks for the kind words on my weathering Horseman! I actually didn't want to add that strapping detail to the forearms and biceps, although I did consider it many times. I can move my arms much easier with them where they are. I know it may not be as screen accurate, but it is definitely more accurate for mobility!
  3. I am officially back active in 501st! Thank you MTK!!!!!
  4. Actually Barcode, it does not sound silly at all! Going Sandy is really taking a "plunge" with your armor. But once it is done and you look at the results.........well, even though it's mine, I cant stop looking at pictures of it! Thanks for the kind words again everyone!!!! For those interested in a weathering technique, I read this thread before I started. Once I did the first shin, I found a method that worked for me. Hope I am not out of line posting this link to the MEPD.NET http://forum.mepd.net/index.php?showtopic=4973
  5. Thanks for all the kind words about the weathering. I have had a number of people ask me how I did it. I certainly did not innovate any new technique, but I did kinda find my own way after looking at a few different, and awesome, threads about weathering over at MEPD.NET. I am gonna make a video on a spare piece ABS I have to show how I achieved these results. I only used 4 colors. Again, thanks for all the kind words
  6. Thanks guys! As we all know, it is a labor of love! The notch on the top left thigh I did on purpose. My intent from the beginning was to aim for SWAT and do Move Along. I have posted TONS of build pics, including my pack build thread over on MEPD. Didn't figure there would be as much interest in the dirty stuff over here. I am however getting ready to start my ATA build that is staying shiny and clean I will try to document that as well as I can. One more build thread is not a bad idea right?
  7. I have not been updating this thread much since my build has been geared towards a sandy, but if anyone is watching, here is a few pics. The lighting is kinda crappy, but I plan on doing some better ones this weekend. I am almost done.
  8. Thanks man! Yes, I am posting most all of it over at MEPD since it is all sandy related.
  9. A little update. I have some build pics, but here is a sort of finished pic.. I have some loose ends to do, tube stripes, neck seal, better blaster. But almost there.
  10. Thanks guys. It has been years since I have built armor. I had a FX back in 2000 and armor is VERY different now! I will post some of the progress pics I have so far in the next day or two. Already started my backpack some weeks ago to.
  11. Hey everybody. I picked up a ATA kit back in April and then a MTK kit last month. I decided to start with the MTK and make it a sandy and keep the ATA nice and shiny for my wife. Here is the obligatory Brown Box pic of me and my MTK. I have already started trimming and have taken some pictures, but I am not near as diligent at taking progress pictures as some of the awesome guys here, whom I have been reading for some months already. But I will try....... Anyway, here we go!
  12. I would recommend the MTK for sure. I am also 5'7", 170 and am currently building an MTK. And it was an easy transaction. Super nice guy
  13. the wife and I are doing it. It sold out in 10 minutes I think....
  14. Yea, I nice slope towards the bottom of the mold is always a good idea, plus make sure the bottom of your mold is as flat as possible. Both of these things makes de-molding after your pull much easier...
  15. Elumusic, I am pretty sure the OCIP guys will cut it down to 24x24 for free, depending how much you buy, I think it is $50.00 or more. That will also cost you less in shipping than full sheets. There is another place super close to me I have used in the past that also cut it for me for free cause I spent over $100.00, and they cut it for my odd sized frame that I use to fit in my oven. They to seem to always have HIPS and Sintra, or Comatex, same thing, on hand. http://www.iplasticsupply.com/ I have not bought enough from either to say "Tell'em Gary sent ya", but have had good luck with both. It's worth a call to find out what the freight would be and price wise I thinkmost are the same. I have never bought from Grainger though.... Good luck with that sinus infection. Don't mess around with that business!!! And yes, Comcast sucks!!!
  16. I know this clearly is not local for you, but these guys ALWAYS have HIPS on hand. It's where I get most of my HIPS when I need it, and I am less than 1/2 mile from there. And if you spend more than $50.00 I think, they will cut it for you for free to whatever size you need. Would also cost less to ship it cut down anyway. http://www.ocip.com/
  17. Just adding my .02... HIPS is pretty strong and durable and SUPER easy to find. Of course it's not glossy so not good if your going for a shiny TK. I have been using HIPS for my X-Wing chest boxes for a few years on two home made vac tables and it has not failed me yet. I wanted to do the helmet in ABS, but alas, finding S/S ABS is like looking for a Unicorn on Mars!!!!! I have a friend who bought a pallet of it and would be willing to sell me some sheets, but I realized I am not ready for ABS just yet. I am kind of lucky as I have two huge plastic distributors within miles of my office so I can get it no problem, and they usually cut it for me for free since I buy a few sheets at a time. My smaller vac table is a odd size since the frame is designed to fit in my oven Anyway....
  18. Yea it does look mostly the same. I have been staring at it both pictures for a while now. Thanks again for helping me to identify this.
  19. What do you mean Paul? Did I say something to offend? when someone first said Don Post I only looked at one small picture and dismissed it. You found much better pictures and I agree, aside form the back, the gear part on mine has no gear teeth whatsoever. I got my first FX armor back in 2000, long before all the details became known. When I decided to maybe get armor again, I found this on craigslist. I have since been reading about MANY differences. I think you for the information....
  20. Actually, my reasoning for making it a TD was because it has yellowed quite a bit. With some sanding, the white does come back some, but it is not glossy. I used to have a TD back in the day when I had my FX kit back in 2000. Obviously back then, we were not really aware of all the different details and such, but I thought this may be acceptable for a TD. I have been out of the loop for a while Thanks for helping identify this for me guys!
  21. Wow, good eye man! The thighs definitely look Don Post, but the back plate not so much. I had not seen those pictures when I looked the DP up. This may very well be something pulled from a Don Post. Then I guess it would be useless to try to use this armor? I was wanting to get the missing pieces and make this a TD while keeping my ATA clean. Not worth it???
  22. I looked at a Don Post and none of it looks like this one. The thighs are particulaly odd.
  23. Here is the back also. There is little details in the "gear" Not sure if it is meant to look like that, or just a soft pull, but you cant see any teeth. And one shin looks pretty close... -----------
