  1. So, I should loosen the tension on the crotch strap? I'll give it a try
  2. Yes, I do have a crotch strap. I decided to eliminate the return edges on the bottom portion of kidney plate and top portion of the butt plate. It helped a little bit. I'm now finishing up snaps for my belt. I think the belt is going to help in keeping the sides of the butt plate from flailing out on me. We will see....
  3. Ok, so I installed the snap plates and it's still flailing out on the sides. I've heard from several folks that NE armor is for bigger guys. My lower body is very skinny. Should I trim down the butt plate?
  4. I have the new snap plates glued down with e6000 and drying over night. I'll see how it works tomorrow. I wonder if I'm having problems because I have no butt myself....pretty slim in that area.
  5. Yep, I'm a KISS fan. Mr. Speed.... Rock-n-Roll Over album! As for the butt plate issue, I have one snap in the middle but used velcro on the sides. I'll try snaps on the outsides. Thanks.
  6. I added two pictures to the orginal post....I was having problems earlier.
  7. I'm assembling an NE armor kit and I'm having issues with the butt plate flailing out on the sides. I have snap plates with elastic straps holding butt and kidney plates together. I don't know how stop the butt plate from doing this. Please help me....any advice?
  8. Ive started building my NE armor, and I plan to put up some pics eventually. Had some questions though... I have both shins complete and one thigh complete. When I was doing some fitting tests, I noticed the shin and thigh are pretty tight...not much space between and it's rubbing together. I'm only 5'8 so I'm going to probably have to trim somewhere. If I trim the thigh piece, the return edges on top will have to go. (I removed them on the bottom side of course). Or, should I just take some off the bottom of my shin piece? Thoughts?
  9. I'm also working on NE armor. Does it really matter which shin is left or right? Also, should the return edges be left on the top and bottom of the shins?
  10. I checked with ATA and its $15 plus shipping. How much does AP charge? I have an email into Mark.
  11. My shoulder strap snapped too. I'm not sure of the maker of my armor, but I know it's styrene. Where can I get replacement straps? I don't care what maker it is.
  12. Here's my finished product (other than the s-trim). This is the first helmet I've done by myself. The ears have some slight gaps, but oh well.... screen accurate, right? haha.
  13. So should the s trim cover the bottom of the ear piece?
  14. I'm having the same problem with my s-trim....it won't pressure fit. Neither E6000 or hot glue worked due to the rubber trim. My question though is how high should the s-trim be on the sides by the ear pieces? Should the trim come up and cover the very bottom of the ear piece? Or, should it be below the trim and not come in contact with the ear piece?
  15. In the hardware section of Walmart, they sell screen repair patches (about four 3"x 3" squares per package). Make sure you get the fiberglass variety. It comes with a clear, sticky backing that allows you to stick the patch to your screen where there's a hole. What I do is peal the sticky backing off so you're just left with the screen. Then, I spray paint the screen black. After the paint has dried, cut the screen pieces in half, as you won't need a full piece. One half piece can usually cover 3 "teeth" holes. You can use hot glue or E6000 to adhere the screen inside the helmet. I generally use hot glue since it cures faster. Finally, I usually do a second layer of screen, turned at a different angle so it creates a cool pattern. I'll posted some pics soon. If anyone wants the brand name of the screen repair patches, let me know. Each package is only a couple bucks....
  16. Walmart has Testors gray 1138. Does it matter what black is used for vocoder?
  17. Can I find those paints at JoAnn Fabrics or Walmart?
  18. I'm ready to paint the frown, ear bumps, and vocoder on my new ATA helmet, but the acrylic paint that I have just smears. Is there something I need to use as a primer...or do I need a specific paint that takes to abs plastic? I used this same acrylic paint on a HIPS helmet before and had no problems.
  19. Unfortunately that left ear piece is the second one...the first one was trimmed too much. Where do I need to specifically trim to help get that tighter fit?
