  1. Gratz!!! I too have an ATA. Awesome bucket. After a lot of nerve shattering cuts, I got it looking nice. You'll love the finished product, and the customer service from ATA is hard to beat. Don't forget that there is a right/left ear!!! That mistake hung me up for a while.
  2. Yeah. I followed up again with the CPA. As has been mentioned, I just need to keep all receipts and document everything to the letter. Im fortunate in that I just purchased all of my gear and have yet to build my suit. Im not in the least bit concerned. I wont play with fire and try to deduct fun functions- pub crawls, etc., but If I take a trip and spend 500 bucks on expenses/travel for a childrens hospital group, I WILL take my deduction.
  3. Cuz he's fat. Youre mean. Lolol cough cough
  4. I heard from my local garrison that the issue was brought up some years ago- at that time, because the 501st isnt a "501" non-profit (lol- 501) deductions couldnt be claimed under the Bush admin.... My accountant swears that since so many organization and local charity groups arent certified 501 NPOs (it costs a lot of $ and 6 months to be reviewed).... We are allowed to deduct everything if we can provide documentation of a troop, i.e. boys/girls club, hospitals, etc. It also applies to gas/expenses toward getting to and from said events. Obviously, fun only troops wouldnt apply (celebration, unless you hug a disabled kid, etc). I would never suggest shorting my Uncle Sam, but if I can legally save a few bucks then good for me. He takes enough of my hard work as it is.
  5. I was married last summer, and with her job and mine we faced a hot mess figuring out our tax planning/finances. We hired an accountant who claims that my new hobby may be entirely deductible from taxes (assuming I use the gear for non-profit/charitable works). Any tax gurus here that can confirm/deny this? It would be a sweet deal If I could deduct my armor/blaster/etc.
  6. The shot is in fact weakened live virus- you are exposing yourself purposefully so your immune system can produce antibodies that will make you immune when you come across the real thing. Its how we beat smallpox...
  7. Youre right to a degree, Svache. The point of being innoculated as a healthy person is to protect those at risk around you- another layer of protection against infection and subsequent spreading. The vaccine isnt for everyone, and Ill admit that every time I get one I feel run down for a day or two, but if it saves even one person in public from being hospitalized or worse, Im glad to do it.
  8. Lol- i was about to type a flame post about nerds when I said to myself, "self?"...good call on the detonator, by the way. Ouch.
  9. (This is a USA post... please add any insight from abroad)...........Please think of the vulnerable. If you have the potential of touching, visiting, or hugging a human under the age of 124, or those with a sensitive immune system this winter, please give them the honor of getting a flu shot (inquire about whooping cough (pertussis) this year. The season is here, and whooping cough is expected to make a huge comeback with the intention to kill/afflict many young people (our childhood DTEP may have worn off, and the strain is different). Any drugstore will offer cheap vaccinations (workplaces free. If the cost is truly a problem and you'd like to protect the young/old/compromised, please PM and I'll personally fund your shots. Don't expose the very young, old, or immunocompromised over stubborn opinion. Thanks. Questions/concerns? -Joel PS- Much more information is available to you if you have questions. www.cdc.gov/flu/protect/keyfacts.htm or feel free to PM about information. I am a medical professional, but I won't pretend to have all the answers. If I cannot help, I'll dig up an answer or resource/reference. Please consider getting protected, and thanks.
  10. It keeps the inside dark, so cooler. If you coated the outside in black I'd imagine you'd fry.
  11. I did plastidip- the brush on in a can. Im pleased with it, but ill find the spray next time for more even coverage. Its got a flexible hard rubber texture. It can be peeled out if you pull hard enough. Ive been reading that people are coating/winterizing their rims with it to protect them. They peel it off in the spring. -----------
  12. Too bad for the age restrictions. Perhaps some of you with some clout could convince the higher-ups to grant her a number as an honorary? I may be reaching, but if she had a certificate and number it would be awesome.
  13. Donation sent. Its heartwarming to see everyone rally behind her like this. Speaks volumes. Maybe theres hope for humanity after all. -Joel&Jaime PS- please keep us updated on the progress of this project!!! Hopefully there's an armorer out there that will take the time. And if enough donations come in, lets get her a blaster!!!!
  14. Bump. There is no magic here. Burn more kcal in a day than consumed, And lose weight! Stop putting pie in the piehole. See what happens in 4 weeks......
  15. ATA. I must say, I was really impressed with the quality of the pull. Im having a blast with it.
  16. I fixed that last night. Picked each decal off with the xacto and flipped them.
  17. Forgive if I'm in the wrong place. My first try at a bucket.... Have at you. http://s1152.photobucket.com/albums/p496/hemostat1976/
  18. Hi. It's a beautiful helmet. I'm going to start my first helmet build soon (an ATA stunt)... I really loved the technique you use with the layer of foam coated with dark resin to beef it up. Could you tell me what you use for foam and resin? I've used a lot of spray polyurethane in other work but the thought of getting even a drop of it on the visual side makes me sick- that and it expands a lot and seems hard to trim/sand from the interior. Any pointers to avoid a sticky great stuff waste of my time/$???
