    Thanks for all the info. TBH as this is my first outing into costuming, I'm not sure I feel confident enough to go for centurion, anyway, although I do feel it's possible for the actual armour, I may let myself down on the gun which seems to be by far the most annoying part.

     

    I am assuming here that grading can be upgraded at a later date, Ie i can submit for acceptance then expert then maybe even centurion.

     

    Right now I'd be overjoyed with level 1 haha!

    Loads to think about, thanks. I'm going to start with a doopy resin kit and I've found on these forums a metal scope rail, so that's a decent start.

     

    Question. I know the gun isn't part of the 501st certifiction but, if you have one it has be to a certain standard, of course, the 1st grade of which is "Based on a real or replica Sterling sub-machine gun, scratch-built, or a modified commercial toy Stormtrooper blaster." - a pretty wide description really which I'm guessing even my basics will pass?

    Regarding movie type, is there a particular movie or scene you like best? That might direct you toward your heart-of-heart's desire for which movie style. I loved the opening of ANH on the Tantive IV so that is what I went with. Also because I had no idea what I was doing ;) haha

     

    Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone! And to answer the above - honestly, no! I've always seen the stormtroopers as an overall thing in all honesty (that's why I like them I guess) so there's not one scene I can think of that makes me think of specifics.

     

    You are right, however, though the landing party at the start of ANH, seeing the white come through the smoke, is pretty good. Perhaps I should force myself to watch them all again. Oh, the bother. :laugh1:

    Hi all,

     

    So I recently took the plunge and decided to start looking into what kind of suit I wanted to build, which led me to join up at the 501st UK Garrison Boards and, having decided I want to go Stormtrooper, I was directed here!

     

    So.. hello!

     

    To say hello, I thought I'd repost some of what I posted over there...

     

    I'm Kevin, early 40s, currently back in the UK and living in Cambridge. Like many my age, Star Wars is a defining thing in my life, though I can be very particular in what I like - for instance, the only books I like are the Karen Travis ones. And as much as I want to enjoy all the video games... well... they just haven't been great really, for years dash2.gif I can sometime be found in SWTOR though, and also WoW.

     

    Watching the 501st doc on the SW Blurays made me decide to take a dream of years into a reality.

     

    Outside of that, I'm currently a creative director in a new startup with over 25 years in illustration and photography and I own http://www.socialdisaster.co.uk/ (links NSFW).

     

    Think that's about it... I have no real idea what to do now but I do have an aim:

     

    To build a suit and join the 501st to my fullest ability.

     

    Past that, I've managed to decide on a classic Stormtrooper outfit but now I'm stuck which which film to take it from - and quite amusingly, I can't tell the different, so any advice is welcome before I actually start buying stuff!

     

    My other idea and I'm not sure how viable it is, is to aim for the above and possibly if I enjoy it, go further with a heavy weapons trooper, but that's for the far future.

     

    So, for now, hello and if anyone wants to point me in the right direction... thanks!
