  1. We get to talk to many of these guys during Star Wars Weekend in Orlando. Those suits are designed specifically with movement in mind. They have to be able to move around freely and do some things we would never do (like dance.) I will also say this, be careful with the "critiques." The mouse has ears, big ears.
  2. I split mine into two 9V batteries, one for each fan. While they blow nice and strong for a little while, they quickly drain the battery (only get a few hours out of a battery). This means I'm sucking through 9Vs like they are going out of style. I wouldn't recommend. I'm actually looking at going to some form of rechargeable battery, such as from a remote car or plane.
  3. They have many types of throat mics on that website, is there one that is more recommended then another? I'm thinking of getting one with a neck strap just to make it stays on the neck better. Obviously the gaming ones wont work for us, as they look to have USB connectors. I had purchased a cell phone one previously (from a different company) that didn't work, so I'm steering clear from that group. That then leaves the "vibration microphones" which to me looks like they are just mics and dont have the ear pieces, and the "two way radio mics."
  4. Great, thanks for the info. I've been thinking of trying to use one since haven't found a head-held mic that seems to work out well and I can easily fit in my helmet.
  5. Do you have any issues from wearing the neck seal over it?
  6. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried using a throat mic (like what they use in the military) with the iCOMM system? If you have, how did it work?
  7. I actually really like that. Kinda makes me think of what stormtrooper armor may have looked like in the future.
  8. This is indeed a disturbing thing. If anyone manages to get a copy of the video, I think it should be passed around as a learning tool. Be careful at troops and use handlers.
  9. Is there anyone in a position that can make a ruling one way or another?
  10. Was there ever a final official word on this? From what I understand by reading the CRL, 7 tracks are ok but 6 is prefered. That is the way I interrpret the CRL. The only thing keeping me from EIB is my blaster, and frankly if I have to hassel around with cutting my blaster up to get it down to 6 tracks, I'm not going to bother with EIB.
  11. Awesome pics Ken. Wish I could have been there.
  12. Please update me to stormtrooper status, thanks. http://www.501st.com/members/displaymember.php?userID=13255&costumeID=124
  13. The drop box is just because the belt wasnt centered exactly on the body. It is about an inch off center it seems, toward the right side. The drop boxes are in the same location on the belt, i measured before i riveted them in place. As for the thigh, i have tried everything i can to get those things higher up and it just isnt happening due to the size of my thighs. I am going to switch from having elastic holding them up to nylon. Hopefully that will keep them in place. The right forearm is a bit large. I have heard that is a common with the ATA kit. I may order a new one so i can try making it smaller. I dont want to tear up the one i have now trying to do it.
  14. These are my final pics, the ones I sent in for submission. I am happy to announce that I got approved! I am still working on a few minor tweaks I want to make. I think by adding a piece of foam inside the left thigh that it will help keep it straight and look better. I am still experimenting on ways to help keep my chest plate in the proper spot. Right now I'm using some elastic attached to the abdomen to keep it in place. Thanks for all the suggestions and help, they were greatly appreciated in getting me to this point.
  15. Strangely enough I tried increasing the length of the strap over the shoulder and that just ended up making it worse. It almost caused the chest plate to push up more, as if the increased length was causing it to pop up and out more rather then hang further down. I will play around with it some more.
  16. The forearms are slightly wide, in particular the right one, which someone else mentioned. They also arent snapped to the biceps, which i had planned on doing. So gravity was pulling them down lower on the forearm. There is an armor party coming up so i can work on some of the tweaks there.
  17. Yeah after i posted them i noticed the same thing with the shoulder bells.
  18. Here is my first test fit of my build. Only thing I am missing is the thermal det pack and putting my holster onto the belt. I know it's not perfect so please let me know if there is any things I can tweak to make it better. I know I'm having an issue with my left thigh, it seems to want to twist medially. I also need to add some elastic to the forearms and biceps to keep the forearms from sliding down. My chest plate also has a tendency to want to pop up over the abd armor, so I may need to add a piece of velcro to keep it from doing that.
  19. Thanks, that wedge shape is a neat idea, and really hard to notice unless you are looking for it.
  20. I'm working on the thighs for my ATA kit. When assembling it I have had to go with a 30mm strip for the front, and on the back, which is pictured here, I am looking at having to do a 40mm strip. My question is will this be ok and does it look ok? Image links un recoverable
