  1. On the fans, who knows I may keep both but use one or the other intermittently. Nice to have a spare and it just looks so dang cool to me when I'm putting it on.
  2. My first troop with the 501st was Sat at Boo in the Zoo in Atl. What a stone cold blast. Weather was 55 and sunny, so no fans were used. I unofficially trooped again on Mon afternoon and picked up my daughter from school, in full gear. I used one fan on and off. Later at night on Mon I had the armor on from about 5pm to 10pm. While trick or treating with my daughter I used one fan only, off and on though a bit more than before. We'll see how I fare when I'm in a hotter environment, so far it's been great fall weather. Thanks for the compliment(s). Armor is doing well. Only had one snap plate fail on the backplate. I have three so no major malfunctions occurred. For now it's patched with a velcro strip. I may well go to all velcro, 4 2" straps between the back plate and kidney. Haven't decided.
  3. I think they are like clamps, you can never have enough!
  4. Will do later tonight. Only thing not installed is the mic, I'm working on that now. I'd like a chinstrap but I may not get to that until next week. I am quite proud of how the interior came out though. I'll post before and after pics. Ok, finally here they are. First two are the "before" pics. The rest were taken last night after I was able to mount the mic. Before After
  5. Thanks and I agree. I think I'll tackle the thighs first and keep an eye out for an RT or TM helmet. I really, really want a DLT-19 too! Also have helmet interior pics I'll post shortly. Very proud of how it came out. Only thing left is to install a chinstrap and I'm good for now. Also made it in such a way that almost everything inside can be moved to a new bucket.
  6. Thanks Jen. You have no idea how big the smile is under that helmet!
  7. Request 501st member access for TK-9447 http://www.501st.com/members/displaymemberdetails.php?userID=13729
  8. Wow! That was fast. I just found out I am approved and activated in the Legion! TK-9447 reporting for Ewok eradication patrol!
  9. Will do later tonight. Only thing not installed is the mic, I'm working on that now. I'd like a chinstrap but I may not get to that until next week. I am quite proud of how the interior came out though. I'll post before and after pics.
  10. I'm guessing that's the culprit. Planning on trying novus #2 and #1.
  11. That's helpful. Is the AP helmet glossy ABS or the milky white stuff? Any profile pics? From the "getting started" thread it sounds like the TM is very glossy and very accurate. Can't determine how to order one though.
  12. I did try that (first post) and no luck. It appears as if the prints are not even on the surface. Odd.
  13. I picked up the smoked green lexan material from trooperbay and made some lenses. I've cut them to size and added a velcro strip around the edges. I have velcro in my bucket and the lenses are secured by pressing them into that material. Works great. I also did some heat bending on them to get a curve. So one is a little blurry so I pulled it and saw some fingerprints, no big deal. Cleaned with soap and warm water. Odd, still there. Tried some rubbing alcohol, rinse with soap and water ..odd still there. Tried goo-gone, what the heck? still there. The surface of the lens on both sides looks spotless, but when you look through it there are a bunch of finger prints. The only thing I think could have been on my hands was a little goop from the velcro adhesive. Have no idea how to clean it off at this point, or if it's even on the surface. Thinking of trying novus 2 and 1 next. Anyone seen this before?
  14. Is there a thread or resource available that has side-by-side images of the various helmet types? I have an AM helmet, but would like to see how it stacks up to other brands. ----------
  15. Here's my rig-----------
  16. Yep, it is a bit over 3". Hoping it will be ok initially and the whole rig was approved for the previous owner. I do plan on updating the belt as well as a few other things after approval as I march towards EIB.
  17. I picked up a set of armor from a local 501st member in mid Sept. He is 5' 11" 230lbs. I'm 6' 180lbs. Much more work than I thought to re-size it, but I'm really happy with the way it turned out. I updated just about everything, straps, helmet interior, cut, snip trim most of the armor and all new velcro where needed. Here's what it looked like the first time I tried it on. http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?showtopic=16878&view=findpost&p=204183 Here's where it is today when I submitted my application. Let me know what you all think.
  18. Are you putting the PTT in your glove or outside of it?
  19. Ok, I'm planning on getting new canvas, or updating my current canvas later this year (second hand armor, so I'm working with what I have) so I'll cut the corners to fit 3" and update the rest then, thanks!
  20. My canvas may be too wide then as it's nearly even with the ABS ammo portion. Just checked it's just under 4". The Easily remedied later (after halloween etc) The correct width is what, about 3.5"?
  21. I know they are at a 45 degree angle, but how much do you measure in from the side (or top) to make the cut? Looks like 1/2" but want to be sure.
  22. Love that pic with the TD twisted around. I've got a soft-spot for the "screw-up troopers." I swear when I'm approved I want my card image to be me as the trooper bumping his head on the pipe in ANH.
  23. Jesse's clips are inbound, but I may have screwed the pooch with my removable cap solution. I might be able to remove one rubber ring and sand the inner tube down though. The other option is to glue the clip on the left with false screws. Not sure if I trust any adhesive to hold up on ABS and Aluminum though. Lastly I can move the clips in but then I'm moving away from screen accurate using screen accurate clips. Methinks I'll be using the stand-offs at least for Halloween then re-thinking my approach. Luckily I can attach them and the outer plate in a reversible fashion.
